The Sony PXW-FS5 is designed for handheld operation, offering agility for tight spaces, lap shooting, and dynamic high and low angles. Its ergonomic design ensures comfortable chest stability with all controls readily accessible.

4K Super35 Exmor Sensor

The FS5 features an Exmor CMOS Sensor, combining the advantages of a large format sensor with high readout speeds essential for 4K motion-picture shooting and Super Slow Motion capabilities.

High Frame Rate (HFR) Recording

Experience High Frame Rate (HFR) cache recording in Full HD 10bit 4:2:2 quality at up to 240 fps. An 8-second cache recording minimizes missed shots, allowing precise selection of footage. 120 fps recording with up to 16-second cache is also supported, with higher rates of 480 fps and 960 fps achievable.

Ultimate Mobility

A re-imagining of the FS7, the FS5 offers unparalleled mobility for shooting in demanding conditions. Weighing less than half of the FS7 (0.83 kg body-only), it allows for shooting almost anywhere. Its balanced chassis and flexible, rotatable grip, along with an LCD viewfinder mountable in nine locations, enhance handheld operation from high to low angles.

RAW Output Option*

With Sony's FS RAW, users can record 4K (4096x2160) at 60p/50p and continuous 2K (2048x1080) at 240 fps/200 fps to an external recorder. Note: Lens compensation may not be compliant with RAW output, potentially causing distortion with lenses like the SELP18105G. *Requires Version 2.0 firmware or above, plus CBKZ-FS5RIF upgrade kit.

Color, Contrast, and the XAVC Codec

Maximize the Super35 Exmor sensor's potential by shooting 100Mbps 4K (3840x2160) using Sony's XAVC (Long GOP) recording system. External RAW recording is available (requires Version 2.0 firmware or above). For faster turnaround, switch to Full-HD (1920x1080) recording at up to 60p XAVC 10bit 4:2:2 50Mbps. The FS5 offers the flexibility to adapt to various workflows.

Built-in Electronic Variable ND Filter / Auto ND

The FS5 is the first Super 35mm camcorder with a built-in electronic variable Neutral Density (ND) filter, enhancing depth of field control. Unlike optical filters, the electronic ND can be adjusted linearly from 1/4ND to 1/128ND. This feature is ideal for fast-paced shoots in changing light conditions, eliminating the need to swap filters and simplifying depth of field management. The Auto ND function helps maintain optimal exposure by automatically adjusting the aperture and depth of field. *Requires Version 2.0 firmware or above.
