General Payment and Delivery Terms for IKEA Online Shopping
The following General Terms and Conditions of Delivery and Payment apply to all purchases made through the IKEA online shop operated by IKEA Deutschland GmbH & Co.KG.
1. Exclusive Validity of Terms
These terms are exclusively applicable to customers purchasing goods and services from the IKEA online shop. IKEA Deutschland GmbH & Co.KG is represented by IKEA Deutschland Verkaufs-GmbH.
2. Contract Conclusion and Prices
Product presentations are non-binding invitations to order. Clicking "Buy now" constitutes a binding offer. IKEA will confirm receipt and contract conclusion via email. All prices are in Euros, including VAT.
3. Payment Options
Available payment methods include Apple Pay, credit card, PayPal, IKEA gift card, IKEA prepaid card, IKEA for Business payment card, and IKANO payment (including IKEA Family payment card, temporary IKEA shopping pass, and IKEA financing). IKEA also offers purchasing on account with Klarna Bank AB (publ) and Ratepay for orders over €1,000, subject to creditworthiness checks.
4. Delivery
IKEA delivers to any address within Germany via parcel service or truck delivery. Delivery outside Germany is not offered.
4.1. Delivery Appointment
A delivery date is provided before ordering. For island deliveries, notification will be given regarding transfer to island truck delivery. Delivery date and time windows are confirmed up to two days before the appointment. For purchases on account with Ratepay, ID verification is required. An authorized person can accept goods with a signed power of attorney and their photo ID.
4.2. Delivery Costs
Parcel delivery costs depend on size and weight. Truck delivery costs depend on the total order value. A separate price is agreed for orders exceeding 3,000 kg. A surcharge of €220 may apply for some island deliveries. An overview of delivery prices is available at IKEA.de/Service.
4.3. Delivery Location
Goods are shipped at the seller's discretion. Truck delivery brings goods to the intended use location but not spread across multiple rooms. Island delivery places goods on the curb. Customers must ensure adequate parking space and inform IKEA of any access issues.
4.4. Additional Delivery Costs
If delivery fails due to customer responsibility, IKEA may charge re-delivery costs and storage fees of €2.50 per day. A second delivery attempt will incur charges. Customers can provide documentation if actual costs incurred by IKEA are lower. For parcel deliveries, customers will be notified of a collection point if delivery fails.
5. Express Delivery
Express delivery is available under specific conditions, including the delivery address being in the same postcode as the furniture store and the goods being in stock. It is not available for island addresses or parcel delivery. Customers can choose same-day or next-day delivery in predefined time slots. Same-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon.
5.1. Terms
Express delivery availability is checked during order placement by entering a postcode. Confirmation of the delivery date and time window is sent via email.
5.2. Delivery Costs
Current express delivery prices are available on the website.
5.3. Additional Delivery Costs
Provisions from section 4.4 apply.
6. Click & Collect
IKEA offers a Click & Collect service allowing customers to pick up orders at an IKEA store, pick-up point, or collection box. Customers select a pickup day and time slot. An email confirms when products are ready for collection. Another person can collect goods with their photo ID, the order confirmation, and a letter of authorization.
6.1. Collection
Customers can authorize another person to collect goods with their photo ID, order confirmation, and a signed authorization letter.
6.2. Service Costs
Service costs for Click & Collect depend on the pickup location (IKEA store or pick-up point). An overview is available on the website.
6.3. Cancellation Option
Click & Collect orders can be cancelled at any time before notification of readiness for collection via a provided link.
6.4. Reminder and Withdrawal by IKEA
IKEA will remind customers to pick up purchases. If goods are not collected within a one-working-day grace period, IKEA may withdraw from the contract and refund the purchase price.
6.5. Retention of Service Costs
If IKEA withdraws from the contract due to non-collection, IKEA may retain the service costs for providing the goods for collection.
7. Assembly and Other Services
IKEA offers assembly, fastening, and hanging services for furniture and accessories. Details and prices are available at IKEA.de/Montage and IKEA.de/Services. For wall fastening, customers must ensure wall suitability and inform IKEA of any supply line routing. IKEA cannot guarantee setup in intended rooms if conditions are not met. Specialist services are required for gas appliances, high-voltage electrical appliances (>16A), and low-pressure mixer taps. IKEA assembly service can also be booked for upholstered furniture, including fitting coverings. Ironing of coverings is not included. Assembly service is not available for upholstered furniture included in island deliveries. Furniture must meet assembly instructions requirements before IKEA assembly begins.
7.1. Payment
All prices include VAT. Payment for services like shopping and delivery is required in advance. Payment options include Girocard and IKEA Family payment card.
7.2. Service Times
Customers are informed of the expected assembly and service dates when ordering, or by the service partner.
7.3. Cancellation of Assembly or Other IKEA Services
Assembly or other IKEA services can be cancelled free of charge up to two working days before the planned assembly date. IKEA may charge 45% of costs for cancellations up to the working day before the appointment, and 75% for same-day cancellations or if completion is prevented by customer-related reasons. Customers can provide documentation of lower actual damages.
8. Reservation of Title
All goods remain IKEA's property until full payment is received.
9. Disposal of Packaging Materials
The truck delivery company will take back packaging for upholstered furniture and electrical appliances. Drivers may also take back other packaging if requested and if it does not cause a significant delay. IKEA uses a dual system for waste disposal and recycling, and all packaging is certified recyclable. Packaging can be disposed of in dual system bins or left at an IKEA store.
10. Right of Return for Purchases (from September 01, 2018)
Items can be returned in new and unused condition with proof of purchase to any IKEA store within 365 days of purchase for a full refund. This policy excludes cut/piece goods (fabrics, kitchen worktops), green plants, and Buyback & Resell service items. This does not affect statutory rights of cancellation or guarantee against defects.
11. Mattress Trial (from September 01, 2018)
Customers can try any IKEA mattress at home and return it within 365 days of purchase for a full refund via a prepaid card. This offer excludes soiled or damaged mattresses, mattress pads, or children's mattresses. Statutory rights of withdrawal and product guarantee rights are unaffected.
12. Right to Withdraw from Purchase Contracts
Customers have a 14-day period to withdraw from the contract without reason, starting from the date of possession of goods or the last delivery. To exercise this right, customers must notify IKEA Deutschland GmbH & Co.KG via letter or email. A standard withdrawal form is available but not mandatory. Sending the notification before the period expires is sufficient.
Effect of Withdrawal
Upon withdrawal, all payments received will be reimbursed within fourteen days, including delivery costs (excluding additional costs from non-standard delivery methods). The same payment method used for the original transaction will be used for reimbursement. IKEA may refuse repayment until goods are returned or proof of return is provided. Goods must be returned immediately or within fourteen days of notification. IKEA covers immediate costs for parcel returns; customers bear costs for non-parcel returns (estimated up to €150). Customers are liable for any diminished value due to improper handling.
Exclusion from Right of Withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to contracts for non-prefabricated goods, goods requiring individual selection/specification, or clearly customized items.
13. Right of Withdrawal for Service Contracts
Customers have a 14-day period to withdraw from service contracts without reason, starting from the date of contract conclusion. Notification must be sent to IKEA Deutschland GmbH & Co.KG. Reimbursement will be made within fourteen days. Pro-rata payment will be required for services already rendered during the withdrawal period.
14. Reimbursement of Delivery and Service Costs in Part Cancellation
For part cancellations, payments for the cancelled goods, including delivery and service costs, will be refunded. Costs that would have arisen even without the cancelled goods are excluded from reimbursement.
15. Returning Goods After Exercising the Right of Withdrawal
Customers must return goods to their nearest IKEA store or send them there after exercising their right of withdrawal.
16. Collection Service for Returns
Customers can arrange for IKEA to collect goods not sent by parcel service for a fee of €75 for shipments up to 3,000 kg. For parcel deliveries, a return to a collection point can be requested, with a return shipping cost of €2.90 per package deducted from the refund. A QR code and prepaid return label will be provided.
17. Faults
IKEA products are subject to statutory liability for defects. The guarantee period is two years from delivery for consumers and one year for businesses.
18. Guarantees
IKEA offers guarantees on certain product groups. Details are available at IKEA.de/Garantien.
19. Contract Content
IKEA does not save contract content for customers. Customers may download and save contract provisions, including these terms, during the concluding process.
20. Customer Reviews
IKEA online shopping profile and IKEA Family profile owners can review and rate products. IKEA does not verify if the reviewer has purchased or used the product.
21. References
Use of the IKEA trademark or wordmark in public references, advertising, or presentations is restricted. Abusive use may lead to extraordinary termination of the agreement.
22. Applicable Law and Jurisdiction
The law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies exclusively. The UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply. Munich is the agreed exclusive place of jurisdiction for businesses.
23. Consumer Arbitration
IKEA is not obligated to participate in arbitration proceedings before a consumer arbitration board. The EU Commission platform for online dispute resolution is available at www.ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr/. Contact IKEA via IKEA.de/Kontakt.
