Newtologic NT1642PW Handheld 2D Barcode Scanner: Quick Setup Guide

Getting Started

This guide provides instructions for setting up and using your Newtologic NT1642PW Handheld 2D Barcode Wireless Scanner.

1. Unpacking and Initial Check

Open the package and verify the appearance and included accessories.

2. Powering On the Scanner

Press the button to turn the scanner on.

3. Connection and Transmission Schemes

The scanner supports two primary connection modes: 2.4G and Bluetooth. The default mode is 2.4G, but it can be configured for Bluetooth as needed.

After booting, the scanner attempts to connect using the method active before the last shutdown. For example, if the scanner was successfully paired via Bluetooth with a mobile phone before shutdown, it will automatically reconnect to that phone upon reboot, provided the phone's Bluetooth is enabled and the scanner is not ignored.

3.1 Bluetooth Mode

To set up Bluetooth connection:

  1. Ensure the Bluetooth of your terminal device (e.g., smartphone, tablet) is turned on.
  2. Scan the following sequence of barcodes: [Scan to Enter Settings], [Scan for Bluetooth HID Mode], [Scan for Searching], [Scan to Exit Settings].
  3. On your terminal device, search for new Bluetooth devices and select "Barcode Scanner HID" to connect.
  4. A blue indicator light on the scanner signifies a successful connection. Refer to Section 7 for indicator status meanings.

3.2 2.4G Mode

To set up 2.4G connection:

  1. Plug the 2.4G dongle into your computer. Ensure the computer recognizes the dongle.
  2. Scan the following sequence of barcodes: [Scan to Enter Settings], [Scan for 2.4G Mode], [Scan to Connect Dongle], [Scan to Exit Settings].
  3. After successful pairing, the blue indicator lights on the scanner will illuminate. Refer to Section 7 for indicator status meanings.

Configuration and Settings

4. Active Factory Defaults

Scanning the [Scan to Active Factory Defaults] barcode will reset the scanner to its original factory configuration. This action does not alter the current connection or transmission method.

5. Function Configuration (CR, LF Suffix)

You can configure carriage return (CR) and line feed (LF) suffixes for data transmission. To set a function:

  1. Scan [Scan to Enter Settings].
  2. Scan the desired functional barcode, such as [Scan to Add LF Suffix], [Scan to Clear CR+LF Suffix], [Scan to Add CR Suffix], or [Scan to Add CR+LF Suffix].
  3. Scan [Scan to Exit Settings] to save the configuration and exit the settings mode.

6. Power Down Method

The scanner automatically powers down if it remains idle for more than 10 minutes after a successful connection. To manually shut down the scanner:

  1. Scan [Scan to Enter Settings].
  2. Scan the [Scan for Power Down] barcode.

Common Questions and Troubleshooting

8.1 Cannot Connect to Bluetooth

Ensure your mobile device runs Android 3.0 or later. Follow the steps in Section 3.1 (Bluetooth Mode), scan the necessary barcodes, enable Bluetooth on your phone, search for "Barcode Scanner HID", and connect.

8.2 Part of Barcodes Cannot Be Scanned

Some uncommon barcode types may be disabled by default. Scan the appropriate functional barcode to enable specific barcode types. If unsure, contact your supplier for assistance.

8.3 Barcodes Not Uploaded to Computer or Phone

S1: Verify the scanner is powered on and functioning correctly.
S2: Check the connection status between the scanner and the terminal device.

S3: If the scanner and terminal device are not connected, revisit Section 3.1 (Bluetooth Mode) or Section 3.2 (2.4G Mode) to establish a good connection, then scan barcodes to transmit data.
S4: Check for other terminal devices within the communication range. If the scanner is connected to another device, disconnect it and follow Section 3.1 or 3.2 to connect with the intended terminal device.

8.4 Computer or Mobile Phone Cannot Find Bluetooth Scanner

First, confirm that the Bluetooth function on your terminal device is working correctly. If it is, proceed to Section 3.1 (Bluetooth Mode) setup.

8.5 Re-pairing Bluetooth Scanner

If the scanner previously connected to a device and is now disconnected, it should reconnect automatically when both devices are powered on. If it fails to connect automatically or has connected to other devices, delete the existing "Barcode Scanner HID" pairing from your terminal device and repeat the setup process in Section 3.1 (Bluetooth Mode).

8.6 Reconnecting to Previous Device After Connecting to a New One

If the scanner connects to Device A, then Device B, and then disconnects from Device B, it will not automatically reconnect to Device A. You must delete the "Barcode Scanner HID" pairing from Device A and repeat the setup process in Section 3.1 (Bluetooth Mode).

8.7 Connecting to Another Terminal Device

To connect the scanner to a different terminal device:

8.8 Automatic Reconnection After Power Off

If reconnection is unsuccessful, refer to Section 3.1 or 3.2 for manual setup.

8.9 Red Light Not Shining During Charging

Ensure the power supply device is turned on. Power off the scanner and attempt to charge it again.
