GE GVMB14S4WSS 1.4 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Sensor Microwave Oven

Dimensions and Installation Information

Note: Requires a 120V grounded electrical outlet. The electrical receptacle must be located within the cabinet situated above the microwave oven. In many instances, no additional wiring, venting, or cabinet rebuilding is necessary. Complete, detailed, and easy-to-follow installation instructions, along with convenient full-size templates, are provided with the microwave oven.

Important Information

When installing the microwave oven over a range, ensure a minimum clearance of 2 inches (5.1 cm) from the bottom of the microwave oven to the top of the range backguard. This clearance is necessary to allow for the removal of light covers.

Ventilation Options

The microwave oven is designed for adaptation to three types of ventilation:

  • Outside exhaust (vertical)
  • Outside exhaust (horizontal)
  • Recirculating (non-vented, ductless – as boxed)

Installation Information

This information is not intended to be used for the installation of the unit described. Before proceeding with installation, consult the installation instructions packed with the product/kit for the most current dimensional data.

Cabinet/Wall Attachment Information

Top mount holes are located 10-23/64 inches from the center line and 9-27/32 inches from the back of the unit. The necessary wall mounting bracket and hardware are included.

Installation Diagram Description

The installation diagram illustrates the placement and required clearances for the over-the-range microwave oven. Key dimensions include:

  • The bottom edge of the cabinet should be at least 30 inches (76.2 cm) from the cooking surface.
  • The oven's depth is a maximum of 12-1/2 inches (33 cm).
  • The oven width is approximately 17-1/8 inches (43.5 cm) and 24 inches (61 cm).
  • A 95-degree door opening clearance is shown.
  • A 2-inch (5.1 cm) clearance is indicated.
  • The total height requirement from the floor to the top of the microwave is 66 inches (167.6 cm) or more.

Hood Exhaust Duct Information

Outside ventilation requires a HOOD EXHAUST DUCT. Please read the following information carefully.

Exhaust Connection

The hood exhaust system is designed to connect with a standard 3-1/4 inch x 10 inch rectangular duct. If a round duct is required, a rectangular-to-round transition adaptor must be used. Ensure that any round duct used has a minimum diameter of 6 inches.

Rear Exhaust

If a rear or horizontal exhaust is to be used, care should be taken to align the exhaust path with the space between wall studs. Alternatively, the wall should be prepared during construction by leaving adequate space between the wall studs to accommodate the exhaust.

Maximum Duct Length

For satisfactory air movement, the total duct length, whether using a 3-1/4 inch x 10 inch rectangular duct or a 6 inch diameter round duct, should not exceed 140 equivalent feet. Elbows, transitions, wall caps, and roof caps introduce additional resistance to airflow and are equivalent to sections of straight duct that are longer than their actual physical size. When calculating the total duct length, add the equivalent length of all transitions and adaptors to the lengths of all straight duct sections.

Duct Equivalent Lengths

DUCT EQUIVALENT FEET
A. Rectangular-To-Round Transition Adaptor 5 ft.
B. Wall Cap 40 ft.
C. 90° Elbow 10 ft.
D. 45° Elbow 5 ft.
E. 90° Elbow 25 ft.
F. 45° Elbow 5 ft.
G. Roof Cap 24 ft.
