Connections

This section guides you through connecting your soundbar to your TV and other devices.

Dolby Atmos®

Dolby Atmos offers an immersive 3D sound experience. For more information, visit dolby.com/technologies/dolby-atmos.

Dolby Atmos is available only in HDMI ARC/eARC mode. Refer to "HDMI Connection" for details.

  1. Your TV must support Dolby Atmos via HDMI 1 / HDMI 2 / HDMI ARC.
  2. Select "No encoding" for the digital audio bitstream output of the connected external device (e.g., DVD or Blu-ray player, TV).
  3. The soundbar will display DOLBY ATMOS / DOLBY AUDIO / PCM AUDIO / DOLBY SURROUND when Dolby Atmos / Dolby Digital / PCM format is selected.

Note: For the full Dolby Atmos experience, connect via HDMI 2.0 cable. Other connections may limit Dolby features.

HDMI Connection

Some 4K HDR TVs require HDMI input or picture settings to be adjusted for HDR content.

Option 1: eARC/ARC (Audio Return Channel)

Your soundbar supports HDMI with Audio Return Channel (eARC/ARC). If your TV supports HDMI ARC, you can hear its sound through your soundbar using a single HDMI cable.

  1. On your TV, enable HDMI-CEC functions. Consult your TV's manual for details.
  2. Use a high-speed HDMI cable to connect the HDMI OUT (eARC/ARC)-TO TV connector on your soundbar to the TV's HDMI ARC connector.

Note: Your TV's HDMI-CEC and ARC functions must be enabled. The setup method may vary by TV. Ensure you use HDMI cables that support ARC.

Option 2: Standard HDMI

If your TV does not support HDMI ARC, connect your soundbar via a standard HDMI connection.

  1. Use an HDMI cable (included) to connect the soundbar's HDMI IN (1 or 2) to your external devices (e.g., game consoles, DVD or Blu-ray players).
  2. Use an HDMI cable (included) to connect the soundbar's HDMI OUT (eARC/ARC) to your TV's HDMI IN port.

Optical Connection

Use an optical cable to connect the OPTICAL OUT port on your TV or other device to the OPTICAL port on your soundbar. The digital optical connector may be marked SPDIF or SPDIF OUT.

AUX Connection

a. Using a 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm audio cable: Connect the TV's headphone jack to the AUX jack on the unit.

b. Using an RCA to 3.5 mm audio cable: Connect the TV's audio output jacks to the AUX jack on the unit.

Power Connection

Before connecting the power cord, ensure all other connections are complete.

Risk of product damage: Verify the mains voltage matches the voltage printed on the back or bottom of the unit.

  1. Connect the power cord to the unit's AC~ socket and then to a mains socket.
  2. Connect the power cord to the subwoofer's AC~ socket and then to a mains socket.

Pairing with the Subwoofer

Automatic Pairing

Manual Pairing

If you do not hear sound from the wireless subwoofer, manually pair it.

  1. Disconnect both devices from the mains sockets, then reconnect them after 3 minutes.
  2. Press the Pair button on the back of the subwoofer for 5 seconds. The subwoofer's pairing indicator will flash rapidly.
  3. Press and hold the standby button on the unit or remote control to put the unit into ECO STANDBY mode.

Wi-Fi Connection (Wireless)

(For iOS and Android versions.)

By connecting this device and mobile phones or tablets (such as iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, Android phones, etc.) to the same Wi-Fi network, you can use the Philips Sound app with DTS Play-Fi to control audio playback on the soundbar.

  1. Connect your phone or tablet to the same Wi-Fi network as your soundbar.
  2. Download and install the Philips Sound app with DTS Play-Fi on your phone or tablet.

  4. Wait for the Wi-Fi indicator on the front panel to change from fast flashing to slow pulsing. A slow flash indicates the speaker is in Wi-Fi configuration mode.
  5. Launch the Philips Sound app with DTS Play-Fi and follow the app's instructions to connect the product to your Wi-Fi network.

Note for iOS version: The Wi-Fi network used by the iPhone must temporarily switch to the Play-Fi device's access point. Then, restart the Philips Sound app to complete the product's Wi-Fi configuration.

AirPlay Configuration: Use AirPlay to configure the Wi-Fi connection for iOS devices (iOS 7 or later) and the soundbar.

  1. iOS Device: Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > select your home network [Play-Fi Device (xxxxxx)].
  2. Return to the Philips Sound app to continue configuration.

Once the Wi-Fi connection is established, the Wi-Fi indicator will stop flashing and become solid. You can then control the product from any smartphone or tablet on the same network.

When using the app for music playback, the display will show PLAY-FI.

You can change the device name after the connection is established.

This product may perform a software update once the connection is established. Perform the upgrade to the latest software during initial setup. Do not disconnect the speaker, turn off your device, or leave the network during the update.

  3. Wait until you hear the voice prompt from the soundbar. If the connection is successful, "BT" will be indicated on the display.

  5. If your Bluetooth device supports the AVRCP profile, you can use the remote control's / buttons to skip to a track or press II to pause or resume playback.
  6. To exit Bluetooth mode, select another source. When you return to Bluetooth mode, the connection remains active. To connect your soundbar to another Bluetooth device, press and hold the button on the remote control to disconnect the currently connected Bluetooth device.

Note: Bluetooth devices supporting A2DP and AVRCP profiles with Bluetooth version 4.2 + EDR are recommended. The maximum operating range between the soundbar and a Bluetooth device is approximately 10 meters (30 feet). Compatibility with all Bluetooth devices is not guaranteed. Music streaming may be interrupted by obstacles between the device and the soundbar, such as walls, metal casings, or other devices using the same frequency.

Using AUX / OPTICAL / HDMI ARC

Ensure the device is connected to the TV or audio device.

  1. Press the button on the unit or remote control multiple times to select the AUX, OPTICAL, HDMI eARC/ARC, HDMI 1, or HDMI 2 mode.
  2. Use your audio device directly for playback functions.
  3. Press the VOL +/- buttons to adjust the volume.

Tip: In OPTICAL / HDMI ARC mode, if there is no sound and the status indicator flashes, you may need to enable the digital audio output (PCM or Dolby Digital Signal) on your source device (e.g., TV, DVD player, Blu-ray player). The unit may not be able to decode all digital audio formats from the input source, resulting in muted sound. This is not a malfunction. Ensure the audio output setting of your source device is set to PCM or Dolby Digital (refer to your source device's manual for details) when using HDMI 1 / HDMI 2 / HDMI ARC / Optical input.

In HDMI mode, when the Dolby Atmos audio format is applied, the soundbar display will show DOLBY ATMOS. When the Dolby Digital audio format is applied, if surround sound is active, the display will show DOLBY SURROUND; if surround sound is inactive, it will show DOLBY AUDIO. When the PCM audio format is applied, the soundbar display will show PCM AUDIO. If the applied audio formats are neither PCM nor Dolby Digital, no sound will be emitted, and the display will show ERROR.

  1. Insert the USB device.
  2. Press the button on the unit or remote control multiple times to set the soundbar to USB mode.
