VEC-841KC Assembly Manual: Tunable SSB/CW Audio Filter

To install your VEC-841K Tunable SSB/CW Audio Filter in the VEC-841KC matching enclosure, follow these instructions carefully.

  1. Find the front panel decal and rear panel decal; separate using scissors. Ensure excess decal material remains around the edges. Apply the rear panel decal first. This involves:

    1. Remove all debris and oil from the chassis using a cloth and alcohol.
    2. Peel the backing to expose the adhesive.
    3. Place the decal on the rear panel without fully securing it.
    4. Gently rub the alignment circles with your finger. If the circles are centered in the enclosure holes (also check corner alignment marks), secure the decal by rubbing out any air bubbles.
    5. If alignment circles are not centered, adjust the decal accordingly before securing.
    6. Use a penknife or small Exacto™ knife to cut away unused edges (from the adhesive side) and cut out component holes (from the description side).
    7. Repeat this procedure for the front panel.
  2. Install the two L-brackets onto the chassis using two 3/16" screws. The longer side of each L-bracket must connect to the chassis using the two holes centered on each edge of the enclosure. Refer to the diagram on the next page for location and orientation.

  3. Install the two 1/2" mounting screws next. Insert the screws from the bottom through the two holes located near each rear corner of the chassis.

  4. Place the two 3/16" round spacers onto the mounting screws.

  5. Insert the PC board. This requires:

    1. Remove the tabs on the front side of R26 and R27. These tabs extend in the same direction as the pot shaft.
    2. Insert the front of the PC board at an angle so the controls enter their respective holes.
    3. Push down on the rear of the board. Ensure the mounting screws align with the mounting holes in the PC board before pushing.
  6. Secure the PC board using the two hex nuts. Ensure all appropriate components are centered with the enclosure holes before tightening. Place the flat washers and panel nuts onto R26 and R27, then tighten.

  7. Find the knobs and switch caps. Align a switch cap with SW 1 and push it on. If it is difficult to push, rotate it 90° and try again. Repeat for SW 2. Now, place the knobs onto R26 and R27. You may need to loosen the set screw. Align appropriately, then tighten the set screws.

  8. Install the top cover. Use the two remaining 3/16" screws to secure the top to the L-brackets. Ensure the L-brackets are aligned properly.

  9. Finally, place the four rubber feet on the bottom of the enclosure at the corners.
