Red Sea Reef Energy® Plus: Complete Coral Nutrition
Reef Energy® Plus is a single-part, complete, energy-efficient coral nutritional formula designed to provide all the carbohydrates, vitamins, amino acids, and fatty acids that corals need for vitality, growth, and coloration.
Understanding Coral Nutrition
Most corals in reef aquariums are photosynthetic, deriving approximately 85% of their energy from symbiotic Zooxanthellae algae. The remaining 15% is produced by metabolizing nutrients from the surrounding water. Non-photosynthetic corals and filter feeders rely entirely on waterborne nutrients.
Reef Energy® Plus provides a balanced mix of essential nutrients to meet these energy demands. The required amount of coral nutrients depends on the coral type and, particularly for SPS corals, on the levels of algae nutrients (nitrate & phosphate) in the water. In low nutrient systems (e.g., when using Red Sea's NO:PO-X), higher levels of coral nutrients are necessary.
This advanced formulation, an improvement on the original 2-part Reef Energy® A&B, offers 15% more coral growth and includes added ingredients that maintain their efficacy when combined.
Dosing Reef Energy® Plus
The dosage chart provides a recommended starting point. Adjustments may be necessary based on your specific system's needs. Monitor coral appearance and nitrate/phosphate levels.
Signs of Overdosing: Grey/brown bio-film on live rock, algae outbreaks.
Signs of Underdosing (in low nutrient systems): Coral bleaching from the base upwards.
Before adjusting Reef Energy® Plus dosage, ensure all measurable parameters are optimal.

Instructions for Supplementing Corals:
- Dose according to the most demanding coral type in your aquarium.
- Dosage charts are based on 100 liters / 25 gallons. Calculate your total water volume (aquarium + sump, minus live rock etc.) for accurate dosing.
- Turn off protein skimmers 15-30 minutes before and after feeding. Maintain gentle circulation at all times.
- Add Reef Energy® Plus directly to the aquarium.
- For delicate corals (e.g., Sun Corals, Goniopora), administer a mixture directly to the corals using a pipette.
- If doses are missed, do not add the missed amount; resume the current daily dose.
Important Notes
- Refrigerate after opening.
- Good for up to 1 year after first use.
- For use with dosing pumps: Pour a week's supply into a non-refrigerated dosing container each week. Wash thoroughly between refills.
