VIOFO A119 Quick Start Guide
This guide provides essential information for setting up and operating your VIOFO A119 dash cam.
Notice
- Do not install or operate the camera with wet hands.
- Avoid humid locations or areas near liquids and inflammable gases.
- Install/mount in a location that does not compromise driver's visibility and safety.
- Do not leave the camera in an airtight vehicle exposed to extreme heat.
- Use only the original charging cable.
- Do not disassemble the camera or charging cable.
- Do not press the lens forcefully.
- Do not use sharp objects on the camera or accessories.
- Do not remove the Micro SD card during recording or shutdown.
- Recommended: Class 10 Micro SD card, 8GB or more (up to 128GB).
- Format the Micro SD card in-camera before initial use for stable operations.
- Do not interrupt power during firmware upgrade.
- Product features and manual content may change without notice.

Installation Method
Install the Mount
Slide the mount into the slot on the back of the camera.

Peel the glue protector off the 3M sticker.

Choose a suitable location to install/mount the camera
Ensure the location provides the best possible view.
Connect to Car Charger
Plug the USB charging adapter into your vehicle's 12V/24V female power socket. Insert the Mini USB cable's male port into the camera's female Mini USB port. (For GPS version, use the port on the mount or camera side; for non-GPS, use the camera's side port.)

Adjust the View Angle
Adjust the angle by moving the lens up/down.

Tips
- Do not turn on 'Motion Detection' unless the vehicle is parked.
- Recommended G-sensor setting: 'Medium'.
- Do not install/mount where it interferes with driver's visibility or safety.
- Mount close to the rearview mirror for optimal field of view coverage.
- Position the lens within the windshield wiper's sweeping range for clear views on rainy days.
- Do not install/mount on or near airbag panels or within the airbag's working range.
- Installation location should not be affected by window tint or other electronic equipment.
Introduction
Interface
The dash cam features several buttons and ports:
- (1) Power: Turns the device on/off.
- (2) Rec/Left: Starts/stops recording, navigates left in menus.
- (3) Menu: Accesses settings menu, navigates up in menus.
- (4) Emergency/Confirm: Initiates emergency recording, confirms selections.
- (5) Mic/Right: Mutes/unmutes audio, navigates right in menus.
- (6) Mini USB Port: Connects to power or computer.
- (7) AV Out: Video output port.
- (8) Reset: Resets the device.
- (9) Micro SD Card Slot: For inserting the memory card.
- (10) USB Port: (Likely refers to the Mini USB Port, or a separate port if present, but context implies Mini USB).

Buttons and Icons
Stand-by Mode
- [Power Button]: Turns the device on/off.
- [Menu Button]: Enters the settings menu.
- [REC Button]: Enters Playlist mode.
- [REC Button]: Clicks once to start recording.
- [Mic Button]: Clicks once to disable audio recording, clicks again to enable audio recording.
Recording Mode
- [Menu Button]: Turns the screen OFF, clicks again to turn the screen ON.
- [Menu Button]: Captures a photo.
- [REC Button]: Locks the current recording file.
- [REC Button]: Stops recording.
- [Mic Button]: Clicks once to disable audio recording, clicks again to enable audio recording.
Playlist Mode
- [Menu Button]: Back to previous menu.
- [REC Button]: 1. Selects the last video; 2. Deletes the video.
- [Mic Button]: 1. Selects the next video; 2. Locks/unlocks the video.
- [Confirm/Play Button]: 1. Enters the selected video; 2. Plays/pauses the video.
Setting Menu Mode
- [Menu Button]: One click can back to recording mode.
- [Menu Button]: Selects the last feature.
- [REC Button]: Selects the next feature.
- [Mic Button]: Enters the feature selected.

Operation
1) Switch ON
Insert Micro SD card. Plug in car adapter and connect Mini USB cable to camera. Start the engine; the device will switch ON automatically.
2) Switch OFF/ON
- Automatic: Turn off engine or unplug charging cable.
- Manual: Press and hold the power button for at least 5 seconds to turn OFF. Press for at least 3 seconds to turn ON. (Manual OFF is for vehicles providing continuous power.)
3) Loop Recording
Automatic loop recording starts when power is detected. Video file time frames are 1/2/3/5/10 minutes. Oldest files are overwritten when SD card is full. Files are saved to SD card:\DCIM\Movie folder.
4) Emergency Recording
- Automatic: Activated by G-sensor collision detection, locks current footage to prevent overwriting. (Collision sensing sensitivity adjustable via G-sensor setting).
- Manual: Press the emergency record button during recording to lock the current file.
5) Motion Detection
When enabled, the camera records movement within its FOV. Stops recording after 60 seconds of no movement and returns to standby. Resumes recording if movement is detected again.
6) Play
- Under video mode, press [Confirm/Play Button] to access the playlist.
- Use [REC Button] and [Mic Button] to select a video.
- Press [Confirm/Play Button] to play the selected video.
- Press the menu button to exit.
7) PC Mode
- Connect the camera to a computer using a Mini USB cable.
- The device turns on, displaying "Mass Storage".
- The computer detects it as a "removable disk".
- Folders under DCIM: \Movie (loop recording), \EMR (emergency recording), \Picture (snapshots).
- Copy files to your computer.
8) Mute
Press the 'Mic' button during a conversation to mute the audio.
9) Firmware Upgrade
- Download firmware, unzip the file.
- Copy/drag the .bin file to the root of the Micro SD card.
- Insert the Micro SD card into the camera's slot.
- Connect to power and turn the camera ON.
- LED indicator flashes to show upgrade progress.
- Camera reboots automatically upon completion.
- Check firmware version in the 'Version' tab of the settings menu.
Note: Format the Micro SD card in-camera before upgrading for stable operation. Do not unplug or power off during upgrade to prevent boot failure.
Setting
Press the 'Menu' button to access settings (recording must be stopped).
- Resolution: Select video resolution (e.g., 2560x1440P 30fps, 1920x1080P 60fps, 1280x720P 120fps, etc.).
- Loop Recording: Set recording file duration (Off, 1/2/3/5/10 minutes).
- Exposure: Adjust EV (-2.0 to +2.0). Default is 0.0.
- WDR: Enable/disable Wide Dynamic Range.
- Time-lapse: Record video in time-lapse mode.
- Motion Detection: Records when movement is detected. Stops after 60 seconds of inactivity.
- GPS: Turns GPS tracking ON/OFF. Required for speed and position data. Use "Dashcam Viewer" for playback and visualization.
- G-sensor: Measures g-shock forces. Determines force needed to lock files. Recommended setting: 'Low'.
- LDWS (Lane Departure Warning System): Warns if vehicle veers out of its lane.
- FCWS (Forward Collision Warning System): Warns when vehicle gets too close to the vehicle ahead.
- Plate Stamp: Imprints a custom 6-digit number (e.g., license plate) on video.
- Date Stamp: Imprints time and date on recorded video.
- Record Audio: Turns microphone ON/OFF (can also be toggled via 'Mic' button during recording).
- Screen Saver: Turns screen OFF after a set time.
- LED: Turns the LED light ON/OFF.
- Date/Time: System date/time setting.
- Time Zone: Sets current time zone for GPS time/date calibration. (Manual adjustment needed for daylight savings.)
- Language: Select display language (English, Traditional Chinese, French, etc.).
- Beep Sound: Turns notification sounds ON/OFF.
- Frequency: Adjusts frequency to minimize video flickering/banding.
- Format: Deletes all data on the Micro SD card. (Backup important files first).
- Format Warning: Sets days between format warnings.
- Default Setting: Restores camera to factory defaults.
- Version: Displays current firmware version.
- Customize Text: Imprints custom text on the recorded video.
