Safety Instructions
General
- Prior to installation or any treatment, carefully read the installation and operation instructions.
- Observe all conventional safety instructions to avoid danger to workers, the public, or property.
- No modifications to the equipment are permitted without written notification from the manufacturer or its representative.
Installation
- Install the filter according to the installation instructions in this manual.
- Ensure sufficient clearance for easy access during future treatments and maintenance.
- Install extra safety devices for hot water applications to prevent skin burns.
Operation and Maintenance
- Loosen or unscrew bolts only after filter pressure has been released.
- Avoid splashing and water leaking to minimize slipping hazards or equipment damage.
- Open and close valves slowly and gradually.
- Remove grease and fat material residues to prevent slipping.
- After treatment, re-assemble protection covers.
- Manual cleaning of the filter element using high water pressure or steam must follow specific cleaning system instructions and be performed safely.
- Manual cleaning using acid or chemical agents must follow relevant material safety instructions and be performed safely.
Use of Lifting Equipment
- When using lifting equipment, ensure the filter or lifted part is securely chained.
- Do not leave lifted equipment unattended unnecessarily. Avoid working below lifted equipment.
- Wear a safety helmet when using lifting equipment.
Principle of Operation
Amiad semi-automatic filters trap dirt from water using a perforated or weave-wire stainless steel filtration element. Elements are available in various filtration degrees and are color-coded for identification. Water flows from the inside out, causing dirt to accumulate on the inner surface of the element. The direction of flow is indicated by an arrow on the filter housing. Brushaway filters offer manual cleaning of the screen without removal, using mechanical wiping and flushing via a valve to remove debris.
This document covers the Installation, Operation, and Maintenance of the 6"S and 8" In-Line Brushaway filters.
Installation
Installation Site Design Recommendations
- Select a convenient location for optimal operation and maintenance.
- Refer to page 4 for a typical installation drawing.
- Isolation valves are required to isolate the filter during maintenance or repair.
- Design the installation according to the correct direction of flow, indicated by an arrow on the filter housing.
- Ensure sufficient space for removing the filter element for cleaning or service.
- It is recommended that the filter housing be situated at a 45° downward angle or horizontally.
Installation Instructions
- Install the filter on suitable foundations, ensuring it is properly bolted and anchored. Verify the direction of flow matches the arrow on the housing.
- Before installation, flush the main line at the connection point to remove large objects that could damage the internal mechanism.
- Arrange for adequate lighting in the filter area for good visibility and safe maintenance.
- Provide suitable platforms and safety barriers for easy access without climbing on pipes or equipment.
- Install a non-return valve on the filter outlet port to protect against backflow or pressure surges.
IMPORTANT!! Installation of a Non-Return Valve protects your filter from static backpressure and dangerous reverse flow! [?]
Typical Installation Diagram
The typical installation diagram illustrates the 8" In-line Brushaway Filter connected to inlet and outlet piping. Dimensions provided are approximately: Overall height (including pipes) 2045 mm (80.51 inches), overall length 746 mm (29.37 inches), and pipe diameter 800 mm (31.49 inches). The diagram shows the filter housing, connections, and flushing valve assembly.
Operation Instructions:
- Clean the filter when the pressure differential across the screen reaches 0.5-bar.
- Clean the Brushaway filter while it is under pressure.
- Open the flushing valve gradually.
- Turn the handle clockwise a few times.
- Close the valve gradually.
- If the filter remains clogged, repeat steps 3-5 with the downstream valve closed. If still clogged, close the upstream valve, drain the filter, and clean manually.
Maintenance:
- Perform a general inspection to ensure the filter operates properly.
- If leakage occurs from the spindle shaft, replace the internal O-ring seal (#17) and lubricate with silicon grease.
- If cleaning ability decreases, remove the screen and check brush condition. Brush bristles should press against the screen; replace if they do not.
Warning! To prevent water hammer (surge), always open and close valves gradually. [?]
Remark: 200 microns is the finest filtration degree recommended for Brush filters.
