Brother DR-3400 Drum Unit: Installation and Counter Reset Instructions

This guide provides instructions for installing the Brother DR-3400 drum unit and resetting its counter on compatible Brother printers and multi-function devices. The DR-3400 drum unit offers an approximate page yield of up to 30,000 pages at 1 page per side, or up to 50,000 pages at 3 pages per side.

Replacing the Drum Unit in Printers

Steps:

  1. Ensure the machine is powered on.
  2. Open the front cover.
  3. Remove the toner cartridge and the drum unit from the machine.
  4. Press down the green release lever and remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit.
  5. Open and unpack the new or recycled drum unit.
  6. Insert the toner cartridge into the new drum unit until it clicks into place. Ensure it is seated correctly, as it may dislodge from the drum unit if not properly installed.
  7. Clean the corona wire inside the drum unit by carefully sliding the green lever from the top of the drum unit, moving it from left to right and then right to left several times. Ensure the lever is returned to its original position (▲), with the arrow on the lever pointing towards the arrow on the drum unit.
  8. Reinsert the toner cartridge and drum unit back into the machine.
  9. Close the front cover of the machine.

Resetting the Drum Unit Counter for Printers (L5000/5050/5100/5200/6250 Series)

When replacing the drum unit with a new or recycled one, it is necessary to reset the drum counter. Follow these steps:

  1. Ensure the machine is powered on.
  2. Open the front cover.
  3. Press and hold the OK button for approximately 2 seconds until "Drum Unit" appears on the display, then press OK.
  4. Use the Up arrow button [up arrow] to reset the counter.
  5. Close the front cover of the machine.

Resetting the Drum Unit Counter for Printers (HL-L6300 and L6400 Series)

  1. Close the front cover.
  2. Ensure the machine is powered on.
  3. Navigate through the machine's menu: Press the [settings icon] (Settings/Настройки) > Machine Information/Информация за машината > Parts Life/Живот на частите.
  4. Press and hold the "Drum Life/Живот на барабана" option.
  5. Select "Yes/Да".
  6. Press the [home icon] (Home/Начало) button.
