Huf Hülsbeck & Fürst: Technical Description and User's Manual of the Volvo Standard Key with Motion Sensor
Manufacturer: Huf Hülsbeck & Fürst
Product: Volvo Standard Key with Motion Sensor
Model: HUF8423MS
1 General Operation of the Key
The Volvo Standard Key integrates an HF transmitter and a motion sensor. When the motion sensor is active, the keyfob can transmit information for locking or unlocking the vehicle via a uni-directional command using Remote Keyless Entry (RKE). A bi-directional communication is possible when Keyless Entry & Start functionality is activated by a LF Wake Up command from the vehicle's antennas, to which the key responds in HF for authorization.
With Keyless Entry or Start, the Volvo SPA Standard Key responds to a LF Wake Up signal from the vehicle (initiated by sensors at the door handle or the Push Start Button). This signal indicates the user's intent to lock/unlock the vehicle, open the trunk, or start the vehicle. The key then responds in HF for authorization. Successful authorization leads to the vehicle performing the requested action.
The Volvo Standard Key features four buttons. Three are dedicated to locking/unlocking the vehicle and opening/closing the trunk. The fourth button activates or deactivates the "PANIC" feature (RKE only).
Key Functions:
- Lock the car (Keyless Entry and RKE)
- Unlock the car (Keyless Entry and RKE)
- Open/Close the trunk of the car (Keyless Entry and RKE)
- Activate or Deactivate "Panic" feature (RKE only)
- Engine Start of the vehicle (Keyless Start)
In case of low battery power, the key can start the vehicle using an emergency backup function via the LF-Transponder interface at 134.2 kHz. This requires placing the key near the transponder coil located near the steering column inside the vehicle, operating at a very short range (less than 10cm).
Relay-Station-Attack (RSA) Countermeasure:
To prevent Relay-Station-Attack, the motion sensor deactivates the LF front end of the keyfob if the key remains stationary for a configurable period. In this state, the key will not respond to Keyless Entry or Start LF triggers from the vehicle. The LF front end becomes active again only when motion is detected by the integrated motion sensor, remaining active for a defined time.
2 Operating Frequencies of HF Transmission
2.1 2-channel
Two channels are implemented on the 434MHz variant (excluding the South Korean variant) and on the 315MHz variant. The table below shows the carrier frequencies for the individual channels in each frequency band.
Frequency Variant | Channel 1 (CH1) | Channel 2 (CH2) |
---|---|---|
315MHz (only for Japan) | 314.37MHz | 314.97MHz |
434MHz (excl. S. Korea) | 433.66MHz | 434.18MHz |
434MHz (only S. Korea) | 433.92MHz | --- |

4 Declaration of Conformity and Product Label
4.1 Radio Equipment Authorization to FCC in USA
Volvo Standard Key FCC ID: YGOHUF8423MS
The transmitter is supplied as an original equipment device to the car manufacturer. According to 47 CFR 15.19 (labeling requirements), the car manufacturer will print the following text in the appropriate User's Manual of the car:
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
- This device may not cause harmful interference, and
- This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.
A common FCC caution states: Any changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate this equipment.
4.2 Radio Equipment Authorization to RSS-210 in Canada
Volvo Standard Key IC: 4008C-HUF8423MS
The transmitter is supplied as an original equipment device to the car manufacturer. According to RSS-210 (labeling requirements), the car manufacturer will print the following text in the appropriate User's Manual of the car:
This device complies with Industry Canada licence-exempt RSS standard(s). Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
- (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and
- (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.
The French translation for this compliance is: "Le présent appareil est conforme aux CNR d'Industrie Canada applicables aux appareils radio exempts de licence. L'exploitation est autorisée aux deux conditions suivantes: (1) l'appareil ne doit pas produire de brouillage, et (2) l'utilisateur de l'appareil doit accepter tout brouillage radioélectrique subi, même si le brouillage est susceptible d'en compromettre le fonctionnement."
A common RSS caution states: Any changes or modification not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate this equipment.
4.3 Location of Product Label
The product label, containing the FCC ID and IC certification number, is located inside the recess for the mechanical keyblade when the cover is removed.
The label for Argentina will be placed in the User's Manual of the Vehicle in the following way: CNC ID: X-XXXXX
