Important Information
General Information
This manual is intended to ensure correct installation and safe, efficient operation. All personnel must read and understand this manual before starting any work. Adherence to all safety instructions and operating procedures within this manual is crucial for safe work. Local accident prevention regulations and general safety provisions for the application area also apply.
Personal Qualification
The following qualifications are required for personnel involved:
- Anlagenmechaniker für Sanitär-, Heizungs- und Klimatechnik (Mechanical Engineer for Sanitary, Heating, and Climate Technology): Trained and qualified for the specific task, works independently according to documentation and instructions, possesses in-depth knowledge of air and climate technology, and is responsible for proper execution. Can identify and avoid potential hazards independently.
- Elektrofachkraft (Electrical Specialist): Qualified due to professional training, knowledge, and experience, as well as familiarity with relevant standards and regulations, to perform work on electrical systems and independently identify and avoid potential hazards.

All information and instructions in this manual are compiled based on current standards, regulations, state-of-the-art technology, and extensive experience. TROX GmbH assumes no liability for damages resulting from:
- Non-compliance with the manual
- Non-intended use
- Use by untrained personnel
- Unauthorized modifications
The actual scope of delivery may vary due to special designs, additional order options, or the latest technical revisions.
Copyright Protection
This manual, including its texts, drawings, images, and other representations, is protected by copyright. Transferring the manual to third parties, reproduction in any form (even excerpts), or utilization and/or disclosure of its content is not permitted without written authorization from the manufacturer. Violations are subject to claims for damages. Further claims are reserved.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Wearing appropriate PPE is required to minimize health risks during work. Always wear the necessary protective equipment for the task at hand.
Intended Use
The louvre damper is used as an actuator for volume flow and pressure control in air handling systems, such as in ventilation central units or air ducts.
Transport and Packaging
Transport
WARNING! Risk of injury from sharp edges, pointed corners, and thin sheet metal parts! Sharp edges, pointed corners, and thin sheet metal parts can cause abrasions and cuts.
- Proceed with caution during all work.
- Wear protective gloves, safety shoes, and a safety helmet.
- Use only lifting and transport equipment with sufficient load capacity.
- Secure the load against tipping and falling during transport.
- After delivery, carefully remove packaging and check the unit for transport damage and completeness.
Storage
Consider the following points for storage:
- Store only in original packaging.
- Protect from weather.
- Protect from moisture, dust, and dirt.
- Storage temperature: -10 °C to 50 °C.
- Relative humidity: maximum 95%, non-condensing.
Installation
General Installation Instructions
The louvre damper can be installed outside of walls (in air ducts) or directly on or in walls and ceilings. General points to consider:
- Install vertically and without distortion.
- Install in vertical or horizontal air ducts.
- For JZ-AL, JZ-HL-AL, and JZ-LL-AL, installation with horizontal blades is standard; vertical blades are also possible.
- Airflow direction is arbitrary.
- Duct connection can be single-sided or double-sided.
- Perform a functional check before installation.
CAUTION! Risk of injury! Reaching into the blades or the linkage mechanism of the louvre damper poses a risk of injury. If access is possible after installation, it must be prevented, e.g., by installing a grille.
HINWEIS! Condensation formation due to dew point undershooting! Condensation can lead to material damage to the building structure and must be avoided through appropriate measures.
Installation in Air Ducts
The louvre damper is fastened to the air duct with screws (customer side). The weight of the louvre damper must be supported, e.g., by suspensions.
Installation on Wall/Ceiling
- Installation with Screw Connection (Fig. 4): Fasten the louvre damper to the building structure using suitable screws (customer side).
- Installation with Installation Frame (Fig. 5 & 6): The louvre damper is fastened to the installation frame using screws (customer side). Positions 1-3 are included in the scope of delivery of the installation frame.
Installation with Weather Grille (WG-JZ) (Fig. 11)
For installations where one side has no air duct connection, this side must be secured against access, e.g., with a closing grille (galvanized steel, mesh size ≤ 20 mm) or a weather grille. The gap between the weather grille frame and the facade must be sealed appropriately by the customer to prevent moisture/rain ingress into the building.
Electrical / Pneumatic Connection
Electrical Actuators
CAUTION! Risk of electric shock! Live parts are present. Electrical equipment is under dangerous voltage. Only qualified electricians should work on electrical components. Switch off the power supply before working on electrical systems.
- Ensure appropriate sizing of supply lines, considering connection power specified on the drive's nameplate. Line lengths, cross-sections, and contact resistances can influence voltage drops. The electrician must dimension the lines and select the appropriate line types.
- The actuator must be connected according to the terminal assignment on the actuator or the manufacturer's product documentation.
1-Wire Control (Fig. 12)
① Stellantrieb (Actuator), ② Federrücklaufantrieb (Spring return actuator - optional position for safety function). S1 closed: Direction of rotation 1; S1 open: Direction of rotation 2.
2-Wire Control (3-Point) (Fig. 13)
S1 closed: Direction of rotation 1; S1 open + S2 open: Drive stops (position not defined); S1 open + S2 closed: Direction of rotation 2.
2-Wire Control (OPEN/CLOSE) (Fig. 13)
S3 unactuated: Direction of rotation 1; S3 actuated: Direction of rotation 2.
HINWEIS! The linkage mechanism must not be used as a limit stop for the actuator; use a separate stop if necessary. TROX cannot guarantee tight closing of the flaps if actuators are supplied and mounted by the customer.
Pneumatic Actuators
Personal: Electrical Specialist (Elektrofachkraft)
Specifications:
- Control medium: Dust-free, oil-free, dry air or inert gases.
- Voltage supply: Depends on the solenoid valve used, see nameplate.
- Operating pressure: Depends on the actuator used, see nameplate.
CAUTION! Risk of electric shock! Live parts are present. Electrical equipment is under dangerous voltage. Only qualified electricians should work on electrical components. Switch off the power supply before working on electrical systems.
- The solenoid valve must be connected according to the terminal assignment on the valve or the manufacturer's product documentation.
- Connect the tubing according to the piping diagrams.
Commissioning, Maintenance
Commissioning
Personal: Mechanical Engineer for Sanitary, Heating, and Climate Technology.
During commissioning of the ventilation system, a functional check of the louvre damper must be performed.
HINWEIS! Locking device for JZ-LL-AL / JZ-HL-AL versions: Louvre dampers in the JZ-LL-AL / JZ-HL-AL versions have a locking device that serves as an OPEN/CLOSE stop. Operation without the locking device can damage the blades. Do not operate JZ-LL-AL / JZ-HL-AL versions without the locking device. Before commissioning, loosen the nut of the locking device (transport securing).
Maintenance
The louvre damper and actuator are maintenance-free regarding wear. However, louvre dampers should be included in the regular cleaning of the ventilation system.
Technical Data
The louvre dampers are manufactured according to the order in width (B) x height (H). Installation should be in accordance with B x H; rotation is only possible to a limited extent. Refer to "General Installation Instructions" on page 4.
