Damit Sie Ihr Gerät optimal nutzen können und viel Freude daran haben, lesen Sie bitte als erstes diese Bedienungsanleitung aufmerksam und vollständig durch! Beachten Sie unbedingt die Sicherheitshinweise, um Gefahren für sich und andere zu vermeiden oder Schäden am Gerät zu verhindern. Bewahren Sie die Anleitung sorgfältig auf. Geben Sie auch die Anleitung mit, falls Sie das Gerät einmal verleihen oder verkaufen. Für Schäden und Folgeschäden, die durch Nichtbeachtung dieser Anleitung entstehen, übernimmt der Hersteller keine Haftung! Sicherheitshinweise Trägern von Herzschrittmachern wird empfohlen, generell vom Umgang mit Funkgeräten abzusehen! In unmittelbarer Nähe von Personen mit Herzschrittmachern sollte nicht gesendet werden. Berühren Sie während des Sendens nicht die Antenne, halten Sie sie auch nicht direkt an den Körper, insbesondere nicht ans Gesicht oder an die Augen. Betreiben Sie Ihr Funkgerät bei Nutzung mit Headset nicht mit zu hoher Lautstärke: Ihr Gehör könnte sonst geschädigt werden. Betreiben Sie Funkgeräte nicht im Flugzeug und nicht im Krankenhaus oder vergleichbaren Einrichtungen. Schalten Sie Ihr Gerät auch aus, wenn Sie sich in explosionsgefährdeter Umgebung (z. B. Tankstelle) aufhalten. Wechseln Sie dort auch nicht die Akkupacks. Beachten Sie bei der Nutzung im Fahrzeug unbedingt die nationalen Vorschriften! In einigen Ländern ist es verboten, während des Steuerns eines Fahrzeugs ein Funkgerät zu nutzen! In einem Fahrzeug mit Airbag sollten Sie das Funkgerät weder direkt über dem Airbag noch im Entfaltungsbereich des Airbags betreiben oder aufbewahren. Öffnen Sie nie das Gehäuse eines Funkgeräts oder des Zubehörs und führen Sie keine Änderungen durch. Lassen Sie Reparaturen ausschließlich von qualifizierten Personen vornehmen. Veränderungen oder Eingriffe am Funkgerät ziehen automatisch ein Erlöschen der Betriebserlaubnis nach sich, es entfällt zudem Ihr Garantie-Anspruch. Verhindern Sie, dass Kinder mit dem Funkgerät, Zubehörteilen oder dem Verpackungsmaterial spielen! 2 Wenn Sie an Ihrem Gerät Geruchs- oder Rauchentwicklung feststellen schalten Sie das Gerät sofort aus und entnehmen die Akkupacks. Nutzen Sie das Gerät auch nicht, wenn Sie Schäden am Gehäuse oder an der Antenne entdecken. Setzen Sie sich mit einer Fachwerkstatt in Verbindung. Schützen Sie Ihre Funkgeräte und das Zubehör vor starken Erschütterungen und extremen Temperaturen (vermeiden Sie Betriebstemperaturen unter -10°C oder über +40°C). Setzen Sie das Funkgerät nicht längere Zeit direkter Sonneneinstrahlung aus (z. B. Ablage im Fahrzeug). Ladeschale und Netzteil müssen vor Feuchtigkeit/Nässe geschützt werden. Werfen Sie die Akkupacks nie ins Feuer! Schließen Sie die Kontakte der Akkupacks niemals kurz! Wichtige Informationen/Bestimmungsgemäßer Gebrauch stabo freecomm 400 ll ist ein PMR 446-Funkgerät für Sprechfunk- verbindungen auf kurze Entfernungen. Der Funkstandard PMR 446 ist in AT, BE, CH, DE, DK, ES, FI, FR, GB, GR, IE, NL, NO, PL, PT, SI freigegeben (anmelde- und gebührenfrei). In IT besteht Anmeldepflicht: von Einwohnern Italiens wird bei der Anmeldung der Funkgeräte eine einmalige Gebühr erhoben! (Urlauber können ihre Geräte für die Dauer des Aufenthalts in Italien ohne Anmeldung frei nutzen.) Auskünfte über nationale Vorschriften bei der Nutzung der Funkgeräte auf Reisen ins Ausland erhalten Sie über die jeweiligen Botschaften/Konsulate der betreffenden Länder bzw. vor Ort bei den zuständigen Behörden für Post und Telekommunikation. PMR 446-Funkgeräte senden/empfangen auf 16 festgelegten Kanälen (446 MHz). Innerhalb des Reichweitenradius können Sie über beliebig viele Geräte miteinander kommunizieren, dabei kann jedoch immer nur eine Person sprechen und der/die andere/n zuhören. Unverschlüsselte Sprechfunkverbindungen sind nicht vertraulich! 3 Die Reichweite hängt von vielen Faktoren ab. Neben der gesetzlich festgelegten Sendeleistung spielen z. B. die Position der Antenne (sie sollte senkrecht stehen und frei abstrahlen können), die Energieversorgung (voll geladene Akkus schöpfen die Reichweite voll aus) und vor allem die Umgebung, in der gefunkt wird, eine Rolle. Jedes "Hin- dernis" (Hügel, Gebäude, Bäume) senkt die Reichweite, manche Materialien (z. B. Stahlbeton, Felsen) schirmen besonders stark ab. PMR 446-Funkgeräte haben unter optimalen Bedingungen (z. B. beim Segeln, Gleitschirmfliegen) eine Reichweite von maximal 10 km. Bei leichter Bebauung ist eine Reichweite von 1 - 2 km realistisch, in stark abgeschirmter Umgebung (z. B. im Gebirge oder innerhalb von Stahl- betongebäuden) kann die Reichweite auf einige hundert Meter oder weniger sinken. Zum Abnehmen drücken Sie den Schnappriegel oben am Gürtelclip vom Gehäuse weg und schieben den Gürtelclip nach oben. Laden der Akkupacks Die Li-Ion-Akkupacks sind vorgeladen: vor Inbetriebnahme der Geräte müssen die Li-Ion Akkupacks zunächst vollständig geladen werden. (Ladezeit ca. 3,5 Stunden) Wichtiger Hinweis: Die Li-Ion-Akkupacks sind werksseitig schon eingelegt. Aufladen der Akkupacks in der Ladeschale Schalten Sie die Funkgeräte aus! Stecken Sie das Netzteil in eine 230 V-Steckdose und verbinden es mit der Ladeschale. Stellen Sie die Funkgeräte in die beiden Ladeschächte. Die beiden Kontroll-Lampen an der Ladeschale leuchten gelb, die Akkupacks werden nun geladen. Wenn die Kontroll-Lampen an der Ladeschale grün leuchten sind die Akkupacks vollständig geladen. Entnehmen Sie die Funkgeräte aus der Ladeschale. 6 Sicherheitshinweise Ladegerät Benutzen Sie das Ladegerät ausschließlich in geschlossenen Räumen. Schützen Sie es vor Feuchtigkeit, Staub, Hitze und starken Erschütterungen. Nutzen Sie das Ladegerät möglichst nur bei Umgebungstemperaturen zwischen 5° und 40°C. (Ladevorgänge außerhalb dieses Temperaturbereichs können zu unvollständiger Ladung führen). Nutzen Sie die Doppel-Tischladeschale nur zum Laden der im Lieferumfang enthaltenen Li-Ion-Akkupacks! Betreiben Sie das Ladegerät ausschließlich mit dem mitgelieferten Netzteil. Missbrauchen Sie es nicht als Gleichspannungsquelle für andere Anwendungen. Demontieren Sie weder das Netzteil noch die Ladeschale. Verhindern Sie, dass Metall-Kleinteile in die Ladeschale gelangen. Vergewissern Sie sich, dass die Funkgeräte während des Ladens ausgeschaltet sind. Laden Sie das Funkgerät nicht, wenn es nass geworden ist! Stellen Sie das Gerät erst in die Ladeschale, wenn es vollständig getrocknet ist. Trennen Sie das Gerät bei Nichtbenutzung vom Stromnetz. Schließen Sie die Kontakte am Akkupack niemals kurz! Werfen Sie die Akkupacks nie ins Feuer! Akkupacks einlegen Drücken Sie den Schnappriegel nach oben und nehmen Sie den Batteriedeckel ab. Stecken Sie den Stecker des Akkupacks in die Buchse im Batteriefach. Legen Sie den Akkupack ein und achten Sie dabei darauf, das Kabel nicht einzuklemmen. Schieben Sie den Batteriedeckel auf das Gehäuse und drücken ihn nach unten,bis der Verschluß einrastet. Entsorgungshinweis Akkupack Verbrauchte Akkupacks gehören nicht in den Hausmüll! Bitte beachten Sie die nationalen Entsorgungsvorschriften und geben verbrauchte Akkupacks (in einer kleinen Plastiktüte) bei den entsprechenden Sammelstellen ab. 7 Batteriesparschaltung/Batterie-low-Warnung Der Stromverbrauch dieses Funkgeräts ist sehr gering. Wird kein Signal empfangen, aktiviert sich automatisch die elektronische Batteriesparschaltung und das -Symbol erscheint blinkend im Display. Bei nachlassender Akkukapazität erscheinen im Display blinkend sowie das Batteriesymbol . Laden Sie dann die Akkupacks. Funktionen Hinweis: Wird eine Einstellung nicht innerhalb von 10 Sek. bestätigt, so übernimmt das Gerät automatisch die letzte Einstellung! Es ertönt ein Quittungston. Gerät ein-/ausschalten Durch Drücken der -Taste lässt sich das Gerät ein-/ausschalten. Mit dem Einschalten ertönt ein Quittungston, der zuletzt eingestellte Kanal wird angezeigt und die Displaybeleuchtung ist für ca.10 Sek. eingeschaltet. Beim Ausschalten ertönt wieder ein Quittungston. Lautstärke einstellen Es stehen 8 Lautstärke-Stufen zur Verfügung. Regulieren Sie die Lautstärke durch Drücken der VOL-/-Taste: im Display erscheinen LE sowie die eingestellte Lautstärkestufe. Ein langer Tastendruck auf die VOL-/-Taste schaltet die Lautstärke fortlaufend weiter. Bei Erreichen der jeweils höchsten bzw. niedrigsten Stufe ertönt ein Quittungston. Kanal auswählen Es stehen 16 festgelegte Kanäle zur Verfügung. Drücken Sie die CH- / -Ta s t e und wählen einen freien Kanal. Ein langer Tastendruck auf die CH- / -Ta s t e schaltet die Kanäle fortlaufend weiter. Hinweis: Stellen Sie immer bei beiden Funkgeräten denselben Kanal ein! 8 Senden/Empfangen Halten Sie die PTT-Taste gedrückt und sprechen Sie im Abstand von ca. 5 cm mit normaler Lautstärke ins Mikrofon, im Display erscheint das TX-Symbol. Wenn Sie Ihre Nachricht beendet haben, lassen Sie die PTT-Taste wieder los.Das TX-Symbol erlischt. Mit dem Einschalten ist das Funkgerät empfangsbereit (sofern nicht gerade gesendet wird). Wenn das Gerät ein Signal empfängt erscheint im Display das RX-Symbol. Einstellbare Rauschsperre Ihr Funkgerät verfügt über eine einstellbare Rauschsperre (3 Stufen: Stufe 1 = kleine Signalstärke, Stufe 3 = große Signalstärke), die verhindert, dass bei freien Funkkanälen lästiges Rauschen zu hören ist. Computer, elektrische oder elektronische Geräte können jedoch unter Umständen - und je nach Abstand - diese Rauschsperre stören, so dass Sie Störgeräusche hören. Aufgrund des hochempfindlichen Empfängers des Funkgeräts sind solche Störeffekte in unmittelbarer Nähe normal und unvermeidbar. Verändern Sie bei derartigen Störungen den Abstand zur Störquelle und halten Sie das Gerät so, dass die Antenne frei abstrahlen kann. Pilotton-Verfahren CTCSS und DCS Das Funkgerät verfügt über zwei Pilottonverfahren (CTCSS mit 38 verschiedenen Tönen und DCS mit 83 Digitalcodes), mit denen Sie gezielt einzelne Geräte oder Gruppen ansprechen bzw. nur von diesen Rufe empfangen können. Wichtiger Hinweis: Achten Sie darauf, dass Sie und Ihre Partnerstation/en dasselbe Pilottonverfahren und denselben CTCSS-Ton bzw. denselben Digitalcode verwenden! Pilotton-Verfahren CTCSS aktivieren Drücken Sie 1x die MENÜ-Taste im Display erscheint der Schriftzug CTC und OF blinkt. Wählen Sie mit der CH-/ - Ta s t e die gewünschte Nummer aus. Bestätigen Sie mit der PTT-Taste: es ertönt ein Quittungston. Hinweis: Wenn Sie die CTCSS-Funktion aktiviert ist, wird die DCSFunktion automatisch gesperrt! 9 Pilotton-Verfahren CTCSS deaktivieren Drücken Sie 1x die MENÜ-Taste im Display erscheint der Schriftzug CTC und die Pilotton-Nummer blinkt. Wählen Sie mit der CH-/ - Ta s t e OF aus. Bestätigen Sie mit der PTT-Taste: es ertönt ein Quittungston. Pilotton-Verfahren DCS aktivieren Drücken Sie 2x die MENÜ-Taste im Display erscheint der Schriftzug DCS und OF blinkt. Wählen Sie mit der CH s / t - Ta s t e die gewünschte Nummer aus. Bestätigen Sie mit der PTT-Taste: es ertönt ein Quittungston. Hinweis: Wenn die DCS-Funktion aktiviert ist, wird die CTCSS-Funktion automatisch gesperrt! Pilotton-Verfahren DCS deaktivieren Drücken Sie 2x die MENÜ-Taste im Display erscheint der Schriftzug DCS und die Digitalcode-Nummer blinkt. Wählen Sie mit der CH-/ - Ta s t e OF aus. Bestätigen Sie mit der PTT-Taste: es ertönt ein Quittungston. Umschalten zwischen hoher/niedriger Sendeleistung Wenn Entfernung und bauliche Gegebenheiten es erlauben, können Sie durch die Reduzierung der Sendeleistung den Energieverbrauch der Geräte senken. Drücken Sie 3x die MENÜ-Taste: im Display erscheint Pr, es blinkt HI (high/hoch) bzw. LO (low/niedrig). Wählen Sie mit der CH-/ - Ta s t e die gewünschte Sendeleistung. Bestätigen Sie mit der PTT-Taste: es ertönt ein zweifacher Quittungston. Hinweis: Bei niedriger Sendeleistung erscheint LO im Display. 10 VOX Funktion (Sprachgesteuertes Senden) Damit können Sie senden, ohne die Sendetaste zu betätigen: Stimmen/Geräusche, die auf das Mikrofon treffen, schalten dabei den Sender des Funkgeräts ein. Stellen Sie die Empfindlichkeit entsprechend den Umgebungsgeräuschen ein, so dass bei einer angemessenen Lautstärke Ihrer Stimme von Empfang auf Sendung umgeschaltet wird. Sie können zwischen 3 Ansprechempfindlichkeitsstufen wählen (3 = höchste Empfindlichkeit). VOX aktivieren Drücken Sie 4x die MENÜ-Taste, im Display erscheint der Schriftzug LE, OF und das VOX-Symbol blinken. Wählen Sie mit der CH-/ -Ta ste die gewünschte Empfindlichkeitsstufe aus. Bestätigen Sie mit der PTT-Taste: es ertönt ein Quittungston und im Display erscheint das VOX Symbol . VOX deaktivieren Drücken Sie 4x die MENÜ-Taste. Im Display erscheint der Schriftzug LE, Empfindlichkeitsstufe und das VOX Symbol blinken. Wählen Sie mit der CH-/ - Ta s t e OF aus. Bestätigen Sie mit der PTT-Taste: es ertönt ein Quittungston und im Display erlischt das VOX Symbol . Einstellung der Rauschsperre/Squelch Die Rauschsperre lässt sich in 3 Stufen verändern (Stufe 1: sehr kleine Signalstärke (Rauschen), Stufe 3: große Signalstärke). Drücken Sie 5x die MENÜ-Taste im Display blinkt mit der CH-/ -Ta s t e eine der drei Stufen aus. Wählen Sie Bestätigen Sie mit der PTT-Taste: es ertönt ein Quittungston. Rufton (Call) Drücken Sie die Ruf-Taste (C/DW), so wird ein Tonruf ausgesendet, der von der Partnerstation empfangen wird. Sie haben die Wahl zwischen 10 verschiedenen Rufton-Melodien. 11 Rufton-Melodie auswählen Drücken Sie 6x die MENÜ-Taste. Es ertönt der zuletzt eingestellte Rufton, im Display erscheint der Buchstabe CA und die Rufton Nummer blinkt. Wählen Sie mit der CH-/ - Ta s t e einen Rufton aus. Bestätigen Sie mit der PTT-Taste: es ertönt ein Quittungston. Tastentöne deaktivieren/aktivieren Zum Aktivieren drücken Sie 7x die MENÜ-Taste: Im Display erscheint das -Symbol und OF blinkt. Wählen Sie mit der CH-/ - Ta s t e ON. Bestätigen Sie mit der PTT-Taste: es ertönt ein Quittungston, das Symbol ist im Display zusehen. Zum Deaktivieren drücken Sie 7x die MENÜ-Taste: Im Display erscheint das -Symbol und OF blinkt. Wählen Sie mit der CH-/ - Ta s t e OF. Bestätigen Sie mit der PTT-Taste: es ertönt ein Quittungston, das Symbol erlischt. Roger Beep Wenn Sie nach dem Senden die PTT-Taste loslassen, wird automatisch noch ein Signalton gesendet. Dieser Ton signalisiert Ihrem Gesprächspartner, dass Sie Ihre Übertragung beendet haben und er sprechen kann, (hilfreich z. B. bei gestörten Funkverbindungen). Roger Beep deaktivieren/aktivieren Zum Aktivieren drücken Sie 8x die MENÜ-Taste: Im Display erscheint der Schriftzug ro, es blinkt OF Wählen Sie mit der CH-/-Taste ON. Bestätigen Sie mit der PTT-Taste: es ertönt ein Quittungston, erscheint im Display. Zum Deaktivieren drücken Sie 8x die MENÜ-Taste: Im Display erscheint der Schriftzug ro, es blinkt ON Wählen Sie mit der CH-/-Taste OF. Bestätigen Sie mit der PTT-Taste: es ertönt ein Quittungston, erlischt im Display. 12 Stoppuhr-Funktion Das Gerät verfügt über eine integrierte Stoppuhr mit einem Zeitmessbereich von 1 Sek. bis 60 Min. Sie können eine Zeitnahme stoppen und anschließend fortsetzen oder die Stoppuhr zurücksetzen und erneut starten. Stoppuhr aktivieren/deaktivieren Drücken Sie 9x die MENÜ-Taste: blinkt. Starten Sie die Stoppuhr mit der CH--Taste, stoppen Sie die Zeitnahme mit der CH--Taste. Zum Fortsetzen der Zeitnahme drücken Sie die CH--Taste, zum Zurücksetzen der Stoppuhr drücken Sie zweimal die CH-Taste (anschließender Neustart durch Druck auf die CH-Ta s t e ) . Die Stoppuhr-Funktion wird automatisch deaktiviert, wenn die Stoppuhr nach einer Zeitnahme nicht innerhalb von 15 Sek. erneut gestartet wird (oder manuell durch Drücken der PTT-Taste). Hinweis: Senden/Empfangen ist auch während einer Zeitnahme möglich. Tastatursperre (Key Lock) Zum Schutz vor Fehlbedienung können Sie die Tastatur (außer CALL-, MON-, PTT-Taste und Lautstärke) sperren. Tastatursperre aktivieren/deaktivieren Zum Aktivieren drücken und halten Sie die S/ -Taste, bis ein zweifacher Quittungston ertönt und das -Symbol erscheint. Zum Deaktivieren drücken und halten Sie wieder die S/ -Taste, bis ein zweifacher Quittungston ertönt und das -Symbol erlischt. Automatischer Suchlauf (Scan) Der Kanal-Suchlauf wird benutzt, um schnell aktive Kanäle zu finden. Er tastet selbständig alle 16 Kanäle ab und stoppt, sobald ein Signal die Squelch-Schwelle überschreitet. Nachdem ein Signal gefunden wurde, stoppt der Suchlauf. Er startet erneut, wenn kein Signal mehr vorhanden ist. Sie können den Suchlauf auch selbst wieder starten durch Drücken der CH-/ - Tas t e. 13 Kanal-Suchlauf aktivieren/ deaktivieren Drücken Sie kurz die S/ -Taste, der Suchlauf startet sofort und im Display erscheint der Schriftzug . Mit der CH-/ -Ta s t e lässt sich die Suchlaufrichtung ändern. Sie beenden den Suchlauf durch Drücken der PTT, CALL oder S/ -Taste: der Schriftzug erlischt. Displaybeleuchtung Beim Einschalten des Geräts wird die Displaybeleuchtung automatisch für 10 Sek. aktiviert. Manuell kann das Display durch Drücken der MON-Taste beleuchtet werden (für 10 Sek.). Monitor-Funktion Um auch schwache Signale zu hören können Sie die automatische Rauschsperre überbrücken. Monitorfunktion aktivieren/deaktivieren Drücken und halten Sie die MON-Taste, bis Sie Rauschen hören. Die Rauschsperre ist so lange überbrückt, bis Sie die Taste wieder loslassen. Zum dauerhaften Überbrücken der Rauschsperre drücken Sie die MON-Taste für 5 Sek.: es ertönt ein zweifacher Quittungston. Zum Deaktivieren der Monitor-Funktion drücken Sie kurz die PTTTaste. Zweikanal-Überwachung (Dual Watch) Wenn Sie nicht nur auf einem Kanal, sondern auf zwei Kanälen empfangsbereit sein möchten, benötigen Sie die Zweikanalüberwachung. Hierbei wechselt das Gerät automatisch alle 0,5 Sek. vom aktuellen Kanal auf den Vorzugskanal und stoppt, sobald auf einem der beiden Kanäle ein Signal empfangen wird. Dual-Watch aktivieren Halten Sie die C/DW-Taste gedrückt bis ein Quittungston ertönt. Im Display erscheint der Schriftzug DW und OF blinkt. Wählen Sie mit der CH-/ - Ta s t e den gewünschten den gewünschten Vorzugskanal aus und bestätigen Sie mit der PTT-Taste. Die Zweikanalüberwachung startet. 14 Dual-Watch deaktivieren Zum Deaktivieren der Zweikanalüberwachung drücken Sie die C/DWTaste, bis ein Quittungston ertönt, der Schriftzug DW erlischt im Display. Hinweis: Solange die Dual Watch-Funktion aktiv ist, ist kein Senden möglich. Werkseinstellung wiederherstellen (Reset) Entfernen Sie den Akku aus dem Batteriefach. Drücken Sie den Ein/Ausschalter , halten Sie diesen gedrückt und stecken Sie den Stecker vom Akku in die Buchse im Batteriefach. Wenn das Gerät wieder eingeschaltet ist, wurde das Gerät auf die Werkseinstellung zurückgesetzt. Battery-low-Warnung Bei geringer Akkukapazität erscheinen im Display blinkend der Warnhinweis bA Lo sowie das Batteriesymbol . Laden Sie die Akkupacks. Ohrhörer-VOX-Mikrofon 1. Aktivieren Sie die VOX-Funktion (siehe Bedienungsanleitung, Seite 11) 2. Stecken Sie den Stecker vom Headset in die Lautsprecher/Mikrofonbuchse. 3. Die VOX-Funktion kann nun mit dem Headset genutzt werden. Hinweis: Sie können das Headset auch ohne VOX-Funktion, mit der PTT-Taste benutzen. 15 Pflege-Hinweise Reinigen Sie die Gehäuse Ihrer Funkgeräte nur mit einem leicht angefeuchteten, fusselfreien Tuch, verwenden Sie keinesfalls Reinigungsoder Lösungsmittel. Schützen Sie die Geräte vor extremen Temperaturen und starken Erschütterungen. Halten Sie die Batteriekontakte mit einem trockenen Tuch sauber. Entnehmen Sie die Akkupacks, wenn Sie die Geräte längere Zeit nicht nutzen. Schützen Sie das Zubehör vor Feuchtigkeit/Nässe, Staub/Verschmutzung, starken Erschütterungen und extremen Temperaturen. Safety warnings Persons with cardiac pacemakers are generally advised not to use radio sets! No transmission in immediate proximity to persons with cardiac pacemakers. Do not touch the antenna during the transmission, do not hold it close to your body, especially not close to the face or the eyes. When using a headset be sure not to turn the volume of your radio set too high: otherwise the noise might damage your hearing. Do not operate the radio sets neither in an aircraft nor in a hospital or in comparable facilities. Switch off the radio set, if you are in explosiveprone environment (e.g. petrol station). PMR 446-radio sets transmit/receive on 16 specified channels (446 MHz). Within the radius of reach you can communicate via an optional number of radio sets, however, only one person can talk and the other/s listen. Uncoded voice radio links are not confidential! 21 The range is a function of many factors. Apart from the statutory transmitting power other factors are relevant: e.g. the position of the antenna (it should be installed at right angle and send freely), the energy supply (fully charged battery packs fully exploit the reach) and above all the environment where you transmit. Each "obstacle" (hills, buildings, trees) reduces the range, some materials (e.g. reinforced concrete, pieces of rock) give rise for considerable screening effects. Under optimum conditions (e.g. during sailing or paragliding) PMR 446 radio sets have a maximum reach of 10 km. For removing push the safety catch on top of the belt clip away from the housing and slide the belt clip upwards. Charging the battery packs The Li-Ion battery packs are precharged: Before using the devices, the Li-Ion battery packs must first be fully charged (charging time ca. 3,5 hours). Important note: the Li-Ion battery packs are already inserted at the factory. Charging the battery packs in the charger Switch off the radio sets! Plug the power supply unit into a socket (230 V) and connect it to the charger. Place the radio sets into the two charging shafts. Both control lamps on the charger emit yellow light, the battery packs are now being charged. If the control lamps light up green the battery packs are fully charged. Remove the devices. 24 Safety instructions for the charger Only use the charger in closed rooms. Protect it from humidity, dust, heat and strong vibrations. The charger should be used only at temperatures between 5° and 40° C (charging outside the recommended temperature range may result in battery packs which are not fully charged). The double tabletop charger must only be used for the charging of the Li-Ion battery packs that are included in the scope of delivery! The charger must only be operated with the delivered power supply unit. Do not abuse it as DC voltage source for other applications. Do not disassemble neither the power supply unit nor the charger. Prevent small metal parts from penetrating into the charger. Make sure that the radio sets are switched off during charging. Do not charge the radio set if it has become wet! Only place the radio set into the charger, if it is completely dry. Disconnect the device from the mains if you do not use it. Never short-out the contacts of the battery packs. Never throw the battery packs into the fire. Insert battery packs Push the latch up and remove the battery cover. Insert the plug of the battery pack into the socket in the battery compartment. Insert the battery pack, being careful not to pinch the cable. Slide the battery cover onto the housing and press down until the latch snaps into place. Information on disposal of battery packs Used up battery packs are not to be thrown into the domestic waste. Be sure to observe the national disposal regulations and dispose used up battery packs (inserted into a small plastic bag) with the corresponding collecting points. 25 Battery save mode/battery low warning The power consumption of this radio set is very small. If no signal is received, the electronic battery stand-by mode is automatically activated and appears on the display. If the capacity of the battery pack is low, appears flashing on the display and the battery symbol . Now you have to charge the battery pack. Functions Note: If a setting is not activated within 10 seconds the radio set will automatically adopt the last setting. Switching on/off the radio set Use the key to switch the radio sets on/off. Switching on is accompanied by a beep sound, the channel number is indicated and the display lighting is activated for approx. 10 sec. Switching off is accompanied again by a beep tone. Adjusting the volume Eight volume levels are available. Press the VOL-/-key to adjust the volume: LE and the selected volume level are indicated. Through a long keystroke-/-key the volume is switched continuously. Reaching the lowest/highest level is accompanied by a beep tone. Selecting the channel Sixteen channels are available. Press the CH-/-key and select a free channel. Through a long keystroke the channels are switched continuously. Note: Always adjust both radio sets to the same channel! 26 Transmitting/receiving Hold the PTT key pressed and speak with normal voice level and a distance of approx. 5 cm into the microphone, the TX symbol is displayed. If your message is finished, release the PTT key, the TX symbol is no longer displayed. When the radio set is switched on, it is ready-to-receive (unless the set is transmitting). If the radio set receives a signal, the RX symbol is displayed. Adjustable squelch Your radio set is equipped with an adjustable squelch (3 levels: level 1 = small signal strength, level 3 = large signal strength), that prevents that an annoying noise can be heard on free radio channels. However, under certain conditions and depending on the distance - computers, electric or electronic devices might interfere with this squelch, so that you hear noises. Due to the supersensitive receiver of the radio set, such interferences in immediate proximity are normal and unavoidable. In case of such interferences you should change the distance to the source of interference and hold the radio set in such a manner that the antenna can send freely. Pilot tone process CTCSS Your radio set is equipped with two pilot tone process (CTCSS with 38 different tones and DCS with 83 digital codes), that permits to address specific individual partner stations or groups or to receive only calls from the latter. Note: Make sure that you and your partner use the same CTCSS tone resp. the same DCS code. 27 Activating/deactivating the pilot tone process CTCSS Press the MENU key 1x: CTC appears on the display and OF flashes. Use the CH-/-key to select a tone number. Confirm by pressing the PTT key: A beep tone sounds. Note: If you activate the CTCSS function, the DCS function is automatically disabled! For deactivating press again the MENU key 1x: CTC appears on the and the pilot tone number flashes. Use the CH-/-key to select OF. Confirm by pressing the PTT key: A beep tone sounds. Switching the transmitting power (high/low) If the distance and constructional conditions permit, the energy consumption of the devices can be reduced by decreasing the transmitting power. Adjust the sensitivity according to the environmental noises, so that the set switches from reception to transmission if your voice volume is appropriate. You can select between 3 sensitivity levels (level 3 = highest sensitivity). Activating/deactivating VOX Press the MENU key 4x: LE appears and OF and the VOX symbol are flashing. Use the CH-/-key to select the desired sensitivity level. Confirm by pressing the PTT key: A beep tone sounds and the VOX symbol is displayed. Setting the squelch The squelch can be changed in 3 levels (level 1: very small signal strength (noise), level 3: large signal strength). Call tone Push the call key C/DW to emit a tone call that is received by the partner station. You can select among 10 different call tone melodies. Confirm by pressing the PTT key: A beep tone sounds. Activating/deactivating the key tone Press the MENU key 7x: appears and OF is flashing. Use the CH-/-key to select ON. Confirm by pressing the PTT key: A beep tone sounds, the symbol is displayed. For deactivating press the MENU key again 7x: appears and OF is flashing. Use the CH-/-key to select OF. Confirm by pressing the PTT key: A beep tone sounds, the symbol disappears. Roger beep When releasing the PTT key after transmission, a signal tone is automatically transmitted. This tone signals to your contact partner that your message is finished and your partner can talk (this is useful for instance for disturbed radio communications). Activating/deactivating the roger beep Press the MENU key 8x: ro appears and OF is flashing. Use the CH-/-key to select ON. Confirm by pressing the PTT key: A beep tone sounds and the roger beep symbol is displayed. For deactivating press the MENU key again 8x: ro appears and ON is flashing. Use the CH-/-key to select OF. Confirm by pressing the PTT key: A double beep tone sounds, the symbol disappears. 30 Stopwatch function The radio set is equipped with an integrated stop watch (measurement range: 1 sec. - 60 min.). You may stop the time measurement and let it continue again or you may reset to zero and start anew. Activating/deactivating the stop watch Press the MENU key 9x: is flashing. Use the CH--key to start the stop watch, use the CH--key to stop the time measurement. Press the CH--key key to continue the time measurement, press the CH--key twice to reset the stop watch (re-start by means of the CH-key). The stop watch function stops automatically if the time measurement is not re-started again within 15 sec. (or manually by the means of the PTT key). Note: Transmitting/receiving is possible during a time measurement. Key lock As a protection against faulty operation you can lock the keyboard (with the exception of CALL, MON and PTT keys and volume). Activating/deactivating the key lock Press and hold the S/ key until a double beep tone sounds and the symbol is displayed. For deactivating press and hold the S/ key again until a double beep tone sounds and the symbol disappears. Automatic scan The automatic scan permits to find active channels quickly. It scans independently all of the 16 channels and stops as soon as a signal exceeds the squelch threshold. It will start anew, if no signal is available. You can also restart scanning by pressing the CH-/-key. Activating/deactivating the channel scan Briefly press the S/ key, the search starts immediately and appears in the display. 31 You may change the direction of the scanning by means of the CH/-key. To end scanning, press the PTT, CALL or S/ key: the scan symbol is no longer displayed. Display lighting Switching on the radio set the display lighting is automatically activated for approx. 10 sec. By pressing the MON key, the display lighting can manually be switched on for approx. 10 sec. Monitor function The automatic squelch can bypassed such that you can also hear weak signals. Activating/deactivating the monitor function Press and hold the MON key until noise can be heard. As long as you keep hold the MON key the squelch is bypassed. For bypassing the squelch permanently press and hold the MON key for approx. 5 sec: A double beep tone sounds. For deactivating the monitor function, briefly press the PTT key. Dual watch function If you wish to be ready-to-receive on both channels instead of only one channel, you require the dual watch function. With this function the radio set automatically switches over every 0.5 sec. from the actual channel to the preferred channel. The radio set stops as soon as a signal is received on one of the two channels. Activating/deactivating Dual Watch Press the C/DW key until a beep tone sounds. DW appears and OF is flashing. Use the CH-/-key to select the requested preferred channel and confirm by pressing the PTT key. The dual watch starts. For deactivating press the C/DW key: DW disappears. Note: As long as the dual watch is active transmitting is not possible. 32 Restoring the factory setting (reset) Remove the battery from the battery compartment. Press the on/off switch , keep it pressed and insert the plug from the rechargeable battery into the socket in the battery compartment. When the device is switched on again, the device has been reset to the factory setting. Battery low warning If the capacity of the battery pack is low, bA Lo is flashing on the display and the battery symbol appears. Now you have to charge the battery pack. Earpiece -VOX- microphone 1. Activate the VOX-function (see user manual, page 29) 2. Plug the headset into the speaker/microphone jack. 3. The VOX-function can now be used with the headset. Note: You can also use the headset without the VOX-function with the PTT- button. Care instructions Clean the housings of the radio sets by means of a slightly damp, lintfree cloth, do not at all use detergents or solvents. Protect the radio sets against extreme temperatures and strong vibrations. Keep the battery contacts clean by means of a dry cloth. Remove the battery packs, if you do not use your devices for a prolonged period. Protect the accessories against humidity/moistness, dust/contamination, strong vibrations and extreme temperatures. 33 Disposal instructions Electric and electronic devices are not to be thrown into the domestic waste. Deliver devices that are out of order/used with a corresponding collecting point. Please contact your local authorities for corresponding information. Used up battery packs are not to be thrown into the domestic waste: Dispose them (inserted into a small plastic bag) with the corresponding collecting points! Troubleshooting Fault/Remedy Your radio set cannot be switched on. Charge the battery packs. You can neither speak nor hear your radio partner. Check whether the same channel and (if activated) the same CTCSS tone resp. DCS code are adjusted. If you are out of reach, reduce the distance to your radio partner. No key function. The key lock is switched on. Deactivate the key lock. The channel is permanently busy. Check the VOX setting. If required, reduce the VOX sensitivity of the second device as well. Other parties in your environment occupy the channel. Switch to another channel. Garantieleistungen bewirken weder eine Verlängerung der Ursprungsgarantie; es wird auch keine neue Garantielaufzeit in Gang gesetzt. III. Garantieansprüche müssen unverzüglich nach Bekanntwerden unter Vorlage des Kaufbelegs innerhalb der Garantiezeit geltend gemacht werden. IV.
