This manual provides detailed instructions for operating the VDIAGTOOL BT310 Battery Tester.

4. Compatibility

Refer to the battery label for battery type and CCA (Cold Cranking Amp) values. Supported battery types include:

  • VRLA (Valve-regulated lead-acid battery)
  • GEL (Gelled Electrolyte Lead Acid Battery)
  • AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat)
  • SLA (Sealed Lead Acid Battery)
  • STANDARD LSI (Starting, Lighting, and Ignition)

Note: If your vehicle battery type is not listed or you are unsure, please contact customer support with battery pictures or consult your retailer.

5. Cautions

  • Use this tester in accordance with instructions, considering working conditions. Incorrect usage may lead to hazardous results.
  • Operate with 12V/24V batteries, with a working voltage range of DC 9V to 36V.
  • Ensure battery terminals are clean. Grease and dust can lead to inaccurate test results.
  • Check the insulating layer of the clamps for damage or exposed wires to prevent electric shock.
  • Wear eye protection when working around batteries.
  • Test in a well-ventilated area, as vehicle exhaust contains toxic carbon monoxide.
  • Keep hair, hands, clothing, and tester leads/cords away from moving blades and belts.
  • Keep the tester out of the reach of children.

Note for safe use: Connect the black (negative pole) clip first, then the red (positive pole) clip. Do not shake the clips while connecting.

Device Overview: The VDIAGTOOL BT310 is a red handheld device with a screen displaying the main menu. It has navigation buttons labeled 'BACK' and 'ENTER', and attached red and black battery clamps.

7. Operation Instructions

7.1 Main Menu and Connections

The tester is powered by the vehicle battery. Connect the Red (+) positive battery clamp to the positive battery terminal and the Black (-) negative battery clamp to the negative battery terminal. Ensure secure attachment.

If connections are correct, the display will show Page 1 (Battery Volts). If incorrect, Page 2 will display error messages like "Black clamp(NEG.) contact is bad, please check!" or "Red clamp(POSI.) contact is bad, please check!". Double-check connections if errors occur.

After successful connection, select the battery voltage (12V or 24V) and press ENTER to access the MAIN MENU.

7.2 Battery Capacity Test (Example for 12V Battery)

This test determines battery condition based on the labeled rated value.

7.2.1 Before Test

Ensure the engine and all accessory loads are OFF. For a fully charged battery, turn on the vehicle headlights for 2-3 minutes until the battery voltage returns to normal values.

7.2.2 Steps

  1. From the MAIN MENU, select "BATTERY CAPACITY" using the navigation buttons and press "ENTER".
  2. Select the preferable "BATTERY TYPE" (e.g., VRLA, GEL, AGM, SLA, STANDARD LSI) and press "ENTER".
  3. Select the "CCA TYPE" (e.g., CCA, IEC, EN, DIN, JIS, GB) according to your battery's rating label and press "ENTER".
  4. Select the "CCA RATED" value displayed on the battery rating label and press "ENTER". The tester recommends entering a number near or equal to the battery's rated CCA.
  5. Press "ENTER" to start the Battery Test. The test result will be displayed.

7.3 Cranking Test

This test evaluates the battery's cranking state by measuring cranking voltage and time.

7.3.1 Before Test

Ensure the engine and all accessory loads are OFF for accurate results.

7.3.2 Steps

  1. Connect the Red (+) positive battery clamp to the positive battery terminal and the Black (-) negative battery clamp to the negative battery terminal. Ensure secure attachment.
  2. Ensure the tester is in the MAIN MENU. Press the "BACK" key repeatedly or use the restart key [Restart Symbol] to return to the MAIN MENU if necessary.
  3. From the MAIN MENU, select "CRANKING TEST" using the navigation buttons and press "ENTER".
  4. Press "ENTER" to initiate the Cranking Test. Start the engine as instructed on the tester's screen. The test result will be displayed.

7.4 Charge System Test

This test assesses the charging system's condition under loaded and unloaded states.

7.4.1 Before Test

Ensure the engine and all accessory loads are OFF.

7.4.2 Steps

  1. Connect the Red (+) positive battery clamp to the positive battery terminal and the Black (-) negative battery clamp to the negative battery terminal. Ensure secure attachment.
  2. Ensure the tester is in the MAIN MENU. Press the "BACK" key repeatedly or use the restart key [Restart Symbol] to return to the MAIN MENU if necessary.
  3. From the MAIN MENU, select "CHARGE SYSTEM" using the navigation buttons and press "ENTER".
  4. Press "ENTER" to confirm and start the engine. Follow the tester's screen instructions (e.g., "Turn on all loads, speed up to 2000 to 2500 rpm, then press <Enter>"). The test result will be displayed.

7.5 Language Set

7.5.1 Steps

  1. Ensure the tester is in the MAIN MENU. Press "BACK" or the restart key [Restart Symbol] to return to the MAIN MENU if necessary.
  2. From the MAIN MENU, select "LANGUAGE SET" using the navigation buttons and press "ENTER".
  3. Choose the preferable language and press "ENTER" to confirm. The tester supports multiple languages including English, Deutsch, Espanol, Français, Japanese, Portugues, Polski, Italiano, Magyar, Svenska, Slovak, Cesky, Neder Lands, and Russian (Pyccknn).

The selected language, e.g., "English", will be displayed on the LANGUAGE SETTING screen.

  • Q: How to set the CCA RATED? A: You can set the data near the standard number of your battery.
  • Q: Is the CCA value tested by this tester correct? A: CCA is considered an AC control standard for battery production. Based on accumulated records, the tested value of a new battery is typically 10-15% higher than the standard value. As the battery ages, this value tends to approach or fall below the standard.
  • Q: Can this battery tester be used in or out of a vehicle? A: Yes, it can be used either in or out of a vehicle.
  • Q: What do SOC, SOH, CCA mean? A: SOC = State of Charge, SOH = State of Health, CCA = Cold Cranking Ampere.
  • Q: What do the abbreviations like CCA, IEC, EN, DIN, JIS, GB mean? A: These are industrial standards from different countries. CCA = Cold Cranking Ampere. 10.2 The Limit Warranty Void Under the Following Conditions

  • Misuse, disassembly, alteration, or repair by non-VDIAGTOOL technical specialists.
  • Careless handling and violation of operating instructions.
