Warranty Information

DigiTech® is proud to offer a warranty on its products. To validate this warranty, please register online at www.digitech.com within ten days of purchase. This warranty is valid only in the United States.

1. DigiTech warrants this product, when purchased new from an authorized DigiTech dealer and used exclusively in the United States, to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and maintenance. This warranty is valid only for the original purchaser and is non-transferable.
2. DigiTech's responsibility under this warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of defective materials showing signs of defect, provided the product is returned to DigiTech WITH RETURN AUTHORIZATION. All parts and labor will be covered for a period of one year. A return authorization number can be obtained by calling DigiTech. The company will not be responsible for any consequential damages arising from the use of the product in any circuit or assembly.
3. Proof of purchase is the consumer's responsibility. A copy of the original purchase receipt is required for any warranty service.
4. DigiTech reserves the right to make design changes or additions or improvements to this product without incurring any obligation to install them on products previously manufactured.
5. The consumer forfeits the benefits of this warranty if the main assembly of the product is opened and tampered with by anyone other than a DigiTech certified technician, or if the product is used with AC voltages outside the manufacturer's suggested range.
6. The foregoing is in lieu of all other warranties, express or implied, and DigiTech neither assumes nor authorizes any person to assume any obligation or liability in connection with the sale of this product. In no event shall DigiTech or its dealers be liable for special or consequential damages or for any delay in the performance of this warranty due to causes beyond their control.

Before returning a product to the factory for service, it is recommended that you refer to this manual. Ensure you have followed the installation steps and operating procedures correctly. If it is necessary to return a product to the factory for service, you MUST first contact technical support to obtain a return authorization number.

PRODUCTS RETURNED TO THE FACTORY WITHOUT A RETURN AUTHORIZATION NUMBER WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Refer to the warranty information, which extends to the first end-user. After the warranty expires, if you choose to use factory service, a reasonable charge will be made for parts, labor, and packaging. In all cases, you are responsible for shipping charges to the factory. If the product is still under warranty, DigiTech will pay the shipping charges for return.

Use the original packaging material, if available. Mark the package with the shipper's name and with these words in red: DELICATE INSTRUMENT, FRAGILE! Secure the package properly. Prepaid shipping, no C.O.D. Do not ship postal packages.

Introduction

Thank you for choosing the DigiTech® Whammy™ Ricochet effect pedal. The Whammy Ricochet takes the famous Whammy pitch shifting effect and puts it into a small-form-factor pedal. Instead of using a treadle to manipulate pitch bending speed, as found on traditional Whammy pedals, the Whammy Ricochet bends the incoming note's pitch at a speed determined by the SHIFT and RETURN controls. And thanks to a true bypass design, your tone remains unaltered when the effect is bypassed.

The Whammy effect can be engaged or disengaged using the footswitch, which can operate as either a momentary or latching switch. The TRAJECTORY LED ladder lights up in sequential order to provide a visual indication of the pitch shifting speed and direction. The incoming note can be shifted up or down by the following intervals:

• 2nd
• 4th
• 5th
• 7th
• Octave
• 2 Octaves
• Octave + Dry

To use the Whammy Ricochet pedal, select the desired pitch shifting interval with the PITCH control, then select the pitch direction with the RANGE switch. Set the footswitch for momentary or latching operation using the MOMENTARY switch. To hear the pitch shifting effect's rise and fall speed, engage/disengage the effect using the footswitch; adjust the SHIFT and RETURN controls so that the pitch effect bends to and from the selected interval at the desired speed.

User Interface

The Whammy Ricochet features the following controls and connections:

• 1. Power Connector: Connect the specified power adapter (sold separately) to this jack. Ensure you use the appropriate power adapter for your area's mains voltage. See "Specifications" on page 8 for power adapter model information. The Ricochet can only be powered via the external power supply. When powering the Ricochet with a multi-pedal power adapter, ensure the power connection provides a minimum of 300 mA of current.
• 2. Ballistics Knobs: This concentric potentiometer consists of two knobs, SHIFT and RETURN. The SHIFT knob sets the speed at which the incoming note will pitch shift to the selected interval when the effect is engaged. The RETURN knob sets the speed at which the incoming note will return to its normal pitch when the effect is bypassed.
• 3. Pitch Knob: Sets the interval of the altered note. The pitch will be shifted up or down depending on the position of the RANGE switch.
• 4. Input Jack: Connect your instrument to this jack.
• 5. Effect Footswitch: Engages or disengages the effect. This footswitch can be configured for momentary or latching operation using the MOMENTARY switch.
• 6. Output Jack: Connect this jack to an amplifier's input or the next pedal's input on your pedalboard.
• 7. Range Switch: Selects whether the incoming signal's pitch will be shifted up or down.
• 8. Trajectory LED Ladder: These LEDs light up sequentially to provide a visual indication of the pitch shift's direction and speed. For example, the LEDs will light from top to bottom when the incoming note is shifted downwards. Conversely, the LEDs light from bottom to top when the incoming note is shifted upwards. When the effect is bypassed, these LEDs will blink in the direction selected by the RANGE switch at 2-second intervals.
• 9. Momentary Switch: Sets the operation of the footswitch. When set to "ON", the Whammy effect will only be engaged as long as the footswitch is held down. When set to "OFF", the Whammy effect will toggle between engaged and bypassed each time the footswitch is pressed.

NOTE: When the MOMENTARY switch is set to "ON", the Whammy Ricochet will use a buffered bypass signal path. When the MOMENTARY switch is set to "OFF", the Whammy Ricochet provides a true bypass signal path.

When the MOMENTARY switch is set to the "OFF" position and the pitch effect is engaged with the footswitch, setting the MOMENTARY switch to the "ON" position will make the effect always on, and the footswitch will now momentarily disengage the effect. To restore the bypass state when the footswitch is not pressed for momentary operation, set the MOMENTARY switch to the "OFF" position and use the footswitch to bypass the effect before setting the MOMENTARY switch back to the "ON" position.

Classic & Chords Modes

The Whammy Ricochet offers two operating modes: Classic mode (the classic Whammy algorithm) and Chords mode (the modern Whammy DT algorithm). Classic mode is ideal for single-note soloing, while Chords mode is better suited for full chord bending. The default out-of-the-box mode is Chords. The mode can be changed while the effect is engaged or disengaged.

To switch from Classic mode to Chords mode, proceed as follows:

1. Set the MOMENTARY switch to the OFF position.
2. Press and hold the FOOTSWITCH for at least 3 seconds. The default mode is Chords, and the first 6 TRAJECTORY LEDs will illuminate.
3. While still holding the FOOTSWITCH, move the RANGE switch down to switch to Classic mode (single TRAJECTORY LED illuminated) or move it up to switch to Chords mode (top 6 TRAJECTORY LEDs illuminated). If the FOOTSWITCH is released before changing modes, the effect will simply remain engaged without changing modes.
4. Once the mode change is selected, release the FOOTSWITCH. The pedal will return to normal operation, and the effect will be engaged in the selected mode.

NOTE: The selected mode will be maintained after the pedal's power is disconnected.

Connections / Applying Power

To connect the Whammy Ricochet pedal to your rig:

1. Turn down your amplifier's main volume control.
2. Make all audio connections to the Whammy Ricochet as shown below.
3. Connect the recommended PS0913DC power adapter (not included) to the POWER input jack and plug the other end into an available AC outlet.
4. Plug in your guitar and gradually increase your amplifier's main volume control until you reach your desired level.

Connection Diagram Description: The diagram illustrates the pedal's rear panel with input and output jacks. The INPUT jack is for connecting your instrument (guitar). The OUTPUT jack is for connecting to an amplifier or the next pedal in your signal chain. The POWER input jack is for the external power adapter. The diagram also shows the recommended PS0913DC Power Adapter (not included) and an optional connection for "OTHER PEDALS". It specifies using unbalanced TS instrument cables only.

NOTE: The Whammy Ricochet should be the first pedal in the effects chain. Placing any effect in front of it may affect its pitch shifting performance.

Try these settings to get started. The diagrams below illustrate knob positions for various effects.
