INSTRUCTION MANUAL

SONANCE CINEMA® SERIES

Introduction

Thank you for purchasing a Sonance Cinema Series LCR1 Cabinet speaker. When properly installed, these speakers will deliver film soundtracks and music with outstanding clarity and realism, even in the largest home theater rooms. To get the most out of your new speakers, please read this manual thoroughly before you begin installation.

Box Contents

Each Sonance Cinema LCR1 Cabinet Speaker box includes the following:

  • Sonance Cinema Series LCR1 Cabinet speaker
  • Cloth grille
  • Self-adhesive rubber feet

Speaker Placement

IMPORTANT: The Sonance Cinema LCR1 Cabinet Speaker weighs 25 lbs. Ensure the shelf or platform is sturdy enough to support its weight.

The speakers can be oriented either vertically or horizontally with nearly identical performance.

Placing the Left and Right Speakers

For left and right channels, orient speakers vertically or horizontally. Place them on either side of the video screen, 6 to 10 feet (1.8m to 3m) apart. Position the mid/tweeter units 3 to 4 feet (0.9m to 1.2m) from the floor (ear height when seated). The main listening position should be 8 to 12 feet (2.4m to 3.7m) away. If placing speakers inside furniture, align their front edges with the furniture openings.

Diagram Description (Figure 2): Illustrates speaker placement relative to a video screen. Shows left and right speakers positioned horizontally or vertically, 6-10 feet apart. Mid/tweeter height is indicated as 3-4 feet from the floor. The listening position is shown 8-12 feet away.

Placing the Center Channel Speaker

Orient the center speaker horizontally or vertically. Position it as close as possible to the same height as the left and right speakers for consistent tonality. If placed above or below the video screen, keep it no more than 2 feet (0.6m) above or below the center of the left and right speakers. If positioned above or below ear level, angle it towards the listeners. Use rubber door stops or similar items to adjust the cabinet angle if needed.

Attaching the Rubber Feet

Peel the adhesive backing from the included rubber feet. For vertical orientation, place feet on the speaker's end panels. For horizontal orientation, place feet on the speaker's side panels, approximately 1 inch (25mm) from the edges.

Diagram Description (Figure 3): Shows how to attach rubber feet. For vertical orientation, feet are placed at the corners of the end panel. For horizontal orientation, feet are placed at the corners of the side panel.

Connecting the Speakers

The Cinema LCR1 Cabinet Speaker's binding post connectors accept single banana connectors, spade lugs, pin connectors, and bare wire.

Diagram Description (Figure 4): Depicts the connector panel. It includes binding posts for speaker wire connection (marked with '+' and '-') and switches for 'WOOFER BOUNDARY COMPENSATION' (ON/OFF) and 'TWEETER LEVEL' (+3dB/FLAT/-3dB).

  • Banana Connectors: Tighten the binding post nut fully and insert the connector.
  • Spade Lugs: Loosen the nut, insert the lug around the center shaft, and tighten the nut.
  • Pins and Bare Wire: Loosen the nut to expose the center shaft opening. Insert the pin or wire and tighten the nut. Tinning bare wire with solder is recommended to prevent short-circuits.

CAUTION: Prevent the '+' and '-' connectors from touching each other to avoid short-circuits that can damage your amplifier.

IMPORTANT: Ensure correct speaker wire polarity: Speaker '+' to Amplifier '+' and Speaker '-' to Amplifier '-'. Proper polarity is critical for good speaker performance.

Adjustments

Tweeter Level Adjustment

For most rooms, the FLAT position provides optimal sound. If the speakers sound too bright, set the TWEETER LEVEL switch to -3dB. If the sound is too dull, set it to +3dB.

Woofer Boundary Compensation Adjustment

Placing the speaker near a TV or in a bookcase can increase bass output by up to 6dB in the 65Hz-200Hz range, potentially affecting music naturalness and male voice clarity. If this occurs, set the WOOFER BOUNDARY COMPENSATION switch to the ON position to reduce output in this frequency range.

Cleaning the Speakers

Clean the cabinet with a damp cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol sprays, as they can permanently damage the finish. Be careful not to touch the speaker drivers when cleaning the baffle panel.
