Car Cleaning and Maintenance
Exterior Cleaning
Bodywork
Before washing the car, rinse off dirt with a hose. Avoid directing high-pressure water streams at air intake openings, body seals, or other vulnerable areas. Do not use high-pressure washers or steam to clean the engine compartment. After washing, especially if using a pressure washer, drive a short distance to dry the brakes.
Corrosive substances like bird droppings and tree sap can damage the car's paintwork. Remove such deposits as quickly as possible. Use only cleaning products designed for automotive use.
Handle camera lenses with care. Clean them with a low-pressure water stream and wipe with a damp cloth.
For stubborn stains like bitumen or oil on the paintwork, white spirit may be necessary. After use, immediately rinse the area with soap and water to remove any white spirit residue.
Note: Do not apply car polish to unpainted bumper molding areas, as polish can embed into the surface finish.
Sensors
When washing the car, do not direct high-pressure water streams at the sensors. Do not use abrasive materials or hard/sharp objects to clean sensors. Use only approved automotive shampoos.
Parking assistance sensors must be kept clean to ensure accuracy and proper function.
Undercarriage Maintenance
Regularly rinse the undercarriage with clean water, paying special attention to areas where dirt and deposits accumulate.
If you discover any damage or corrosion, have the vehicle inspected by your dealer or an authorized workshop as soon as possible.
After Off-Road Driving
Ensure the air intake areas and front grille are clean and free of debris. Pay special attention to the lower grille and radiator. Failure to do so may lead to engine overheating and significant damage.
After off-road driving, clean the undercarriage as soon as possible.
Wheels and Tires
Alloy Wheels
Use only approved wheel cleaning agents.
Glass Surfaces
Rear Window
Wipe the rear window with a soft cloth to avoid damaging the heating element. Do not scrape dirt off the glass or use abrasive cleaning agents.
Mirrors
Mirror glass is particularly sensitive to mechanical damage. Wash with soapy water. Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or metal scrapers to remove ice.
Sunroof Glass
To avoid damaging the protective coating, clean the interior surface of the sunroof with a soft cloth only. Do not scrape dirt off the glass or use abrasive cleaning agents.
Interior Cleaning
General Interior Care
Some cleaning agents contain harmful substances that can negatively affect health and damage the interior if used improperly. Always read and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Fabric Upholstery
Do not use soap, ammonia, or bleach, nor cleaning agents for hard surfaces.
Regularly clean Dynamica Suede fabric. Do not rub too hard or use a steam cleaner. It is sufficient to clean it with a soft brush, a dry cloth, or a vacuum cleaner.
Do not use absorbent cloths or paper with a pattern, as the color may transfer to the fabric.
Leather Upholstery
Use only cleaning agents specifically designed for leather. Do not use solvents. Avoid chemical agents, alcohol, and abrasive materials, as they can quickly damage the leather. The use of unapproved products will void the warranty.
If you are unsure about which products to use, consult your dealer or an authorized Land Rover workshop. For cleaning and protection, use Land Rover product BAC500490.
To prevent dirt from embedding into the leather and causing stains, inspect and clean the upholstery every one to two months as described below:
- Wipe the upholstery with a clean, damp, uncolored cloth to remove fine dust. To avoid abrasive action on the leather surface, frequently change the cloth and use a clean section. Do not saturate the leather.
- If this is not sufficient, dampen the cloth with warm, soapy water and wring it out thoroughly. Use only mild, alkali-free soap.
- For heavily soiled areas, use a Land Rover leather cleaning agent. Dry with a clean soft cloth, periodically turning it to a clean side.
Use the Land Rover leather care product a few times a year to maintain the leather's softness and appearance. This product nourishes and moisturizes the leather, creating a protective layer on its surface that prevents dust and other substances from penetrating.
- Dark-colored clothing may transfer dye to leather upholstery, as well as other materials.
- Fasteners like belt buckles, zippers, and rivets can leave noticeable scratches on the leather upholstery.
- If spills like tea, coffee, or ink are not removed immediately, the stains may become permanent.
Do not use cleaning agents not intended for automotive use. While these products may seem effective at first, their use leads to rapid wear of the leather and voids the warranty.
If you use a professional car cleaning service, ensure they are familiar with and strictly follow the instructions above.
Note: Some materials/fabrics have a tendency to transfer color. This can cause unsightly discolored spots on light-colored leather. Areas that have changed color should be cleaned and protected as soon as possible.
Safety Systems
Seat Belts
Do not allow water, cleaning agents, or fabric fibers to enter the seat belt mechanisms. Any substances entering the mechanism can negatively affect the seat belts' function in the event of a collision.
Extend the seat belts fully, then clean them with warm water and neutral soap. The fully extended belt webbing must air dry without additional heating.
Note: When cleaning seat belts, check for any damage or wear on the belt webbing. Report any damage to your dealer or authorized workshop, who will address it.
Airbag Covers
Clean airbag covers only with a slightly damp cloth and a small amount of upholstery cleaner. Any substances or objects that enter the mechanism may impede the proper deployment of airbags in the event of a collision.
Carpets and Floor Mats
Stains can be removed by gently wiping them with a warm, low-concentration soapy solution.
Stubborn stains can be removed using commercially available carpet cleaning agents.
Instrument Panel, Touchscreen, and Audio System
- Do not use upholstery cleaning agents for electrical equipment, such as switches on the control panel.
- When cleaning areas near switches, ensure that liquid does not enter the gaps between components or flow under the trim panels.
- Clean with a slightly damp cloth.
- Do not use chemical compounds or household cleaning agents.
- Avoid contact between sharp, hard, or abrasive objects and the screen.
- Protect the screen from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
- To avoid errors, do not touch the touchscreen with multiple fingers simultaneously.
- Do not press these buttons too hard.
Other Maintenance
Washer Nozzle Clogging
Do not operate the washer nozzles while clearing a blockage or making adjustments. Washer fluid is hazardous to eyes and skin. Always read and follow the manufacturer's instructions for the washer fluid.
If a washer nozzle is clogged, clear it with a thin wire inserted into the nozzle. Ensure the wire is completely removed after clearing the blockage.
Minor Paintwork Repairs
Regularly inspect the paintwork for damage. Address any chips, cracks, or deep scratches as soon as possible. Unprotected metal will corrode quickly, so failure to take timely action may result in costly repairs.
