For Your Safety
Risk of choking from swallowing small parts: Keep the device out of the reach of children under 3 years.
Fire hazard due to permanently installed rechargeable battery: Do not destroy the keyboard by disassembling, crushing, heating, or burning it.
Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI): RSI arises from small, continuously repeated movements. To prevent RSI:
- Set up your workspace ergonomically.
- Position the keyboard and mouse so your upper arms and wrists are at your sides and outstretched.
- Choose a comfortable keyboard tilt using the feet on the underside.
- Take frequent short breaks, with stretching exercises if necessary.
- Change your posture often.
Switching the Keyboard On/Off
The keyboard enters a low-power sleep mode after 30 seconds of inactivity, turning off LEDs and backlighting. It reactivates on the first key press. For longer periods of non-use or transport, manually switch the keyboard off using the switch on the back (Off = 0, On = I).
Connecting the Keyboard to a Device
The keyboard can connect via USB cable, Bluetooth, or a 2.4 GHz wireless receiver. Bluetooth allows connection to up to 3 devices and switching between them.
Connecting via Cable
- Turn the keyboard on (switch to "I").
- Connect the USB cable to the keyboard and your PC/laptop.
- While holding the FN key, press the "USB" key (indicated by a USB symbol). The "USB/Battery" LED on the back will light up red.
Connecting via Bluetooth
Note: Bluetooth 5.2 requires Windows 10 or later. Use cable connection for older systems.
- Turn the keyboard on (switch to "I").
- On your device, search for Bluetooth devices (e.g., Windows: Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth).
- Follow the operating system's instructions.
- Activate the keyboard's Bluetooth connection by holding the FN key and pressing the "Bluetooth" key (indicated by a Bluetooth symbol).
- If no connection exists on the active channel (1, 2, or 3), the "Bluetooth" LED will flash red. Channel 1 is selected by default. If the LED glows red constantly, the channel is in use.
- To select another channel, press FN + a number key (1-3). To clear and overwrite a channel, press and hold FN + a number key (1-3) until the LED flashes.
- Follow the device's OS prompts within 30 seconds. The "Bluetooth" LED will glow red upon successful connection. If it doesn't light up, the connection failed; try again.
Connecting via Receiver
- Turn the keyboard on (switch to "I").
- Connect the receiver to a USB 2.0 port on your device (preferably with white or black guide).
- While holding the FN key, press the "Wireless" key (indicated by a wireless/RF symbol). The "RF" LED on the back will light up red, indicating connection.
Changing Connection Type
Switch between USB cable, Bluetooth, and wireless receiver connections by holding the FN key and pressing the corresponding function key (USB, Bluetooth, or Wireless).
Switching Bluetooth Devices
To switch between paired Bluetooth devices (up to 3), switch to the Bluetooth connection (FN + Bluetooth key) and then press FN + the desired channel number (1, 2, or 3).
Installing the CHERRY Gaming Software
Note: Software installation requires a cable connection. The software cannot be installed or run in Bluetooth or wireless mode due to potential battery issues.
To access the full functionality of the CHERRY MX 8.2 TKL Wireless, install the CHERRY Gaming Software. This software allows customization of lighting effects and macro assignments.
- Ensure you are using the latest software version.
- Connect the keyboard via USB cable (see Section 3.1).
- Download the software for free from www.cherry-world.com or www.cherry.de. Alternatively, press and hold FN + CHERRY key (indicated by CHERRY logo) for 3 seconds to open the installation web link.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Accessing Additional Functions
Additional functions are accessed by pressing the FN key in combination with the F-keys (F1-F12) or other designated keys on the top row. For example, FN + F1 toggles sound on/off.
To permanently activate the FN key, press CTRL + FN simultaneously. The FN key will remain lit red.
Customizing Light Effects
Basic light effects can be adjusted using the additional function keys (see Section 6 "Accessing Additional Functions"). For advanced customization, install the CHERRY Gaming Software.
Charging the Keyboard
When the "USB/Battery" LED on the back flashes blue, the keyboard needs charging. Connect the USB cable to the keyboard and a PC/laptop. The "USB/Battery" LED will glow blue while charging and turn off when fully charged. The charging circuit prevents overcharging. The keyboard charges while the PC/laptop is on, allowing continued use.
Resetting the Keyboard to Factory Settings
Press and hold the FN key and the Pause key for 5 seconds. If this fails, locate a small hole on the bottom center of the keyboard and press the internal switch with a thin wire (like a paper clip).
Cleaning the Keyboard
Caution: Avoid aggressive cleaning agents and liquids.
- Turn the keyboard off (switch to "0").
- Do not use solvents (gasoline, alcohol), abrasive cleaners, or scouring sponges. Prevent liquids from entering the keyboard. Do not remove keycaps.
- Clean with a slightly damp cloth and mild detergent (e.g., dish soap).
- Dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
Troubleshooting
If the keyboard is not working:
- Turn the keyboard off and on again.
- Try a different USB port.
- Test the keyboard on another PC/laptop.
- Charge the keyboard via USB cable (see Section 8 "Charging the Keyboard").
- Remove interfering objects (metallic or electrical items like cables, speakers, USB hubs) between the keyboard and PC/laptop.
- Reduce the distance between the keyboard and PC/laptop.
- If USB 3.0 devices cause interference near the receiver, use a more distant port, an additional cable, or a USB hub.
- Ensure "USB Keyboard Support" or "USB Legacy Mode" is enabled in the PC's BIOS.
Rectifying a Bluetooth Connection Fault:
- Waking a PC/laptop from standby via Bluetooth is not possible; turn it on manually.
- If the keyboard is already connected to another device on the selected channel, a parallel connection cannot be made. Turn off the first device or deactivate its connection.
- Turn off unnecessary Bluetooth devices.
- Remove and re-add the keyboard in the Bluetooth software.
- Use an external Bluetooth receiver.
- If using different Bluetooth channels, switch channels if necessary (see Section 4.1 "Switching Bluetooth Devices").
- Connect via the receiver.
- Note on multiple Bluetooth devices: Too many connected Bluetooth devices can overload the PC/laptop's integrated Bluetooth receiver.
Rectifying a Connection Fault using the Receiver:
- Connect the receiver to a USB 2.0 port (white or black guide). USB 3.0 ports (blue guide) can sometimes cause malfunctions.
- Try another USB 2.0 port.
- Reduce the distance between the receiver and keyboard by using a nearby USB port.
- Use a USB extension cable to place the receiver as close to the keyboard as possible.
