Enclosure Types and Features
The ReliaGear™ lighting panelboard is available in NEMA 3R, 4/4X, and 12 enclosures.
NEMA 3R Enclosure: All NEMA 3R enclosures include a 3-point catch mechanism.
Description of NEMA 3R enclosure image: A single NEMA 3R enclosure is shown. It is a rectangular metal cabinet with a door. The text indicates it includes a 3-point catch mechanism.
NEMA 4/4X/12 Enclosures:
- Enclosures 31 inches and smaller feature a single point latch.
- Enclosures 37 inches and taller feature two single point latches.
Description of NEMA 4/4X/12 enclosures image: Two NEMA 4/4X/12 enclosures are shown. The smaller one (31" or less) has a single latch on the door. The larger one (37" or more) has two latches on the door.
Installation Steps
STEP 1: Prepare the Enclosure
Remove the front cover from the box. Securely store all mounting hardware that was removed.
STEP 2: Adjust Mounting Tabs
Loosen the four 5/16 - 18 X 7/16 hex head screws (marked "B" in diagrams) that retain the mounting tabs on the back of the enclosure. Rotate the mounting tabs 90 degrees to the desired position and tighten the screws securely.
Note on Dimensions: Figure 1 shows a 20" wide enclosure. For 30" wide enclosures, the centerline dimension for the mounting tabs is 24 inches.
Mount the enclosure to the designated area, ensuring the top is oriented as indicated in Figure 2.
For NEMA 12 applications, plug the drain holes located at the bottom of the enclosure using the provided hardware.
Description of Figure 1: A diagram illustrating the mounting tab adjustment. It shows a close-up of the enclosure back with mounting tabs. Screws labeled 'B' are shown retaining the tabs. Dimensions and reference points 'A' and 'B' are indicated for alignment, with a note that a 20" wide enclosure is shown, and a 30" wide enclosure has a 24" tab centerline.
Description of Figure 2: A diagram showing the correct orientation of the enclosure for mounting. An arrow indicates "THIS END UP". Drain holes are marked at the bottom of the enclosure. Interior mounting studs, labeled "(4) 1/4-20 Interior mounting studs", are visible inside the enclosure.
STEP 3: Install Interior Assembly
Install the interior assembly by aligning its key-slotted mounting feet with the threaded studs located in the back of the enclosure. Secure the assembly using 1/4-20 hex nuts. Ensure grounds are connected as required.
STEP 4: Wiring
Perform interior wiring according to customer specifications.
STEP 5: Re-mount Front Cover
Re-mount the gasketed front cover to the enclosure. Use the 1/4-20 screws and the galvanized/rubber washers that were previously removed. Exercise care to avoid damaging the gasketing on the backside of the cover.
Description of hardware illustration: The illustration shows two methods for attaching the front cover. Standard hardware uses a 1/4-20 x 7/8" slotted head screw (self-tapping) with a washer assembly that has a rubber side and a galvanized side. Optional hardware uses a 1/4-20 x 7/8" Torx head screw (size T-30, self-tapping) with a similar washer assembly. The diagram also points out a pad-lockable handle and drain holes on the enclosure.
Note: A tamper-resistant hardware kit is available. Order catalog number NEMATRX.
