WaterScience CLEO SFU-717 Shower & Tap Filter

User Manual

Introduction

Thank you for choosing the CLEO SFU 717 shower & tap filter from WaterScience. The CLEO SFU 717 is a versatile filtration device that can be attached to almost any bath fixture - taps, wall showers, hand showers, and overhead showers.

Chlorine and hard-water are leading causes of hair fall, dry skin, and other dermatological conditions. The CLEO SFU 717 filters out harmful contaminants, providing clean and healthy water through its unique 4-layer filtering system.

4-Layer Filtering System:

WaterScience CLEO uses patented KDF technology from KDF Fluid Treatment Inc., USA, to eliminate up to 90% chlorine* in your water. Effects of hard-water salts are reduced by a proprietary combination of Zeolites and hardness dispersant media, ensuring salts are filtered, reduced, and washed away without settling on your skin.

Main Benefits

Reduces Hair-fall

Chlorine and hard water salts are major causes of hair fall. Chlorine draws away moisture, leading to dryness, thinning, and breakage. Hard water salts can block hair follicles, hindering essential nutrition and leading to premature greying and hair fall. Dermal absorption of chlorine during showering can significantly impact hair health. KDF filtration media eliminates up to 90%* chlorine, while the hardness removal layer prevents hard water salts from settling on hair. The Nano Silver Carbon layer offers additional chlorine protection.

Protects Skin

Chlorine strips skin of natural oils, causing dryness and cracking, leading to wrinkles and darkening. Dermal absorption of chlorine can aggravate skin conditions like eczema and cause rashes. Hard water salts can block skin pores, leading to acne and allergies.

Prevents Bacteria

Bacteria and microbes can colonize showerheads, posing health hazards. KDF and Nano Silver Carbon in the CLEO filter are bacteriostatic and have anti-microbial properties, inhibiting the growth of bacteria and microorganisms within the filter, ensuring a safer and healthier showering experience.

Removes Bad Odours

The CLEO Shower Filter removes bad odors from water caused by naturally occurring minerals, chlorine (chemical smell), or hydrogen sulphide ('rotten egg' smell).

Prevents Lime Scale

Hard water contains calcium and magnesium bicarbonate salts that form stubborn deposits on bathroom fittings. The proprietary hardness removal layer converts these salts into an easily removable crystalline form, helping to keep bathrooms limescale-free. Most salts wash away with water, and any residue can be removed with regular cleaning liquids.

Parts & Accessories

The CLEO SFU-717 consists of the following parts:

The CLEO SFU-717 fits on all standard 1/2" shower connectors and taps with 24 mm aerators.

Installation

Installation on Wall / Overhead-showers

Step 1: Disconnect your shower-head from the shower arm. Clean the thread with sandpaper to remove debris. Wrap the shower arm thread with Teflon tape to prevent leaks.
Step 2: Ensure 2 washers are inserted into the top connector of the CLEO. Wrap the bottom connector thread with Teflon tape to prevent leaks.
Step 3: Align the CLEO top connector with the shower arm thread and rotate clockwise to tighten.
Step 4: Flushing – Step away from the water path. Turn on the water and let it flow for 3 minutes. This flushes out discolored water (carbon dust), which is not harmful.
Step 5: Align the bottom thread connector of your CLEO with the shower-head connector and rotate clockwise to tighten fully. Use a washer for the shower head connector as well. Use a spanner to tighten. If leaks occur, check/insert washers and tighten again.

Instructions are the same for wall-mounted shower arms and overhead showers. CLEO fits all standard (1/2" BSP) shower arms.

Installation on Hand-showers fixtures

Step 1: Disconnect the hose from the tap. Clean the thread with sandpaper to remove debris. Wrap the tap thread with Teflon tape.
Step 2: Ensure at least 2 washers are inserted into the top connector of the CLEO. Wrap the bottom connector thread with Teflon tape to prevent leaks.
Step 3: Align the CLEO top connector with the tap thread connector and rotate clockwise to tighten.
Step 4: Flushing – Turn on the water and step away from the water path. Let the water flow out for 3 minutes. This flushes out discolored water (carbon dust), which is not harmful.
Step 5: Align the hand-shower hose connector with the CLEO bottom thread connector and rotate clockwise to tighten fully. Use a spanner to tighten. If leaks occur, check/insert washer and tighten again.

Installation on Taps & faucets

Step 1: Remove the aerator from the faucet/tap and connect the aerator-adaptor to the tap.
Step 2: Wrap the connector thread of the adaptor with Teflon tape to prevent leaks. Ensure at least 2 washers are inserted into the top connector of the CLEO.
Step 3: Align the CLEO top connector with the aerator-adaptor and rotate clockwise to tighten.
Step 4: Flushing – Turn on the water and step away from the water path. Let the water flow out for 3 minutes. This flushes out discolored water (carbon dust), which is not harmful. Use a spanner to tighten fully. If leaks occur, check/insert washer and tighten again.

CLEO fits all standard taps & faucets with a 24 mm aerator.

Troubleshooting

SYMPTOM: Water pressure is too low for a comfortable shower right after installation.

SOLUTION: The CLEO comes with a water-saving flow-restrictor / mesh washer. If the incoming pressure or flow rate is low in your plumbing line, remove the flow restrictor / mesh washer (located inside the top connector) and use a regular washer (provided in the installation kit).

SYMPTOM: Water flow from the shower & tap filter has reduced gradually / after disuse.

SOLUTION: When water pressure gradually drops from your CLEO shower & tap filter, it is usually because of one of these reasons:

  1. The filter has not been used for several days & the sediments trapped inside may have solidified.
  2. There is sediment accumulation inside the cartridge and has clogged the filter (This is normal in areas with high sediment levels).
  3. There is sediment accumulation in the flow restrictor / mesh-washer.
  4. The cartridge has crossed its capacity of 25,000 liters and reached the end of its life.

Note: If the CLEO shower & tap filter is left unused for more than 2 weeks, there are chances of lump formation from sediments getting solidified. This could render the cartridge unusable and may need to be replaced.

SYMPTOM: Water leaks from the outer shell joint.

SOLUTION: This is likely due to the O Ring of the cartridge not being in position. You can re-seat the O Ring and reinstall the cartridge, and this should solve the leak.

SYMPTOM: Water leaks from the top / bottom connectors.

SOLUTION: If the leak is from the top connector, check / re-insert / add additional washers and wrap the shower/tap connector as well. Check the washers – you may need to use 2 or 3 washers to get the right leak-free fit for certain types of shower-heads / hand showers / shower arms. You can re-seat the O Ring and reinstall the cartridge to solve the leak.
