Vasco Translator M3 Operation Manual
Device Overview
The Vasco Translator M3 is a portable device designed for real-time language translation. It features a touchscreen, speech recognition buttons, microphones, a loudspeaker, a camera, and a USB-C port.

Getting Started
Powering On/Off
- To turn on: Hold the Power button (8) for 3 seconds.
- To turn off: Push the Power button (8) to turn off the screen, push again to turn it on. Push and hold the Power button for 2 seconds and tap "Power off" to turn the device off.
Volume Control
Use the Volume up (14) and Volume down (15) buttons to adjust the volume. A musical note emoji (♪) will indicate volume changes.
Back Button
The Back button (9) allows you to return to the previous screen.
Speech Recognition Buttons
Buttons (2) and (3) are used for voice recognition and language input.
Battery Charging
Connect the device to an electric socket using the provided USB cable. The battery indicator will show charging mode. Full charge takes approximately 4 hours. Always charge the battery in a well-ventilated area between 14°F and 95°F (-10°C to +35°C). Use only the manufacturer-provided charger to avoid device damage.
Handling During Long Periods of Inactivity
Storage
Before storing the device for an extended period:
- Charge the battery to 50%.
- Turn the device off.
- Store in a cool, shaded place.
- Turn on and charge to 50% at least once a month.
Starting After Inactivity
Press and hold the power button for about 3 seconds. If the device does not respond, connect it to the charger.
Disposal of Product
Dispose of the product in accordance with local regulations.
Initial Setup
In-built SIM Card
The device comes with an international SIM card, allowing it to work without Wi-Fi and without requiring a contract.
Initial Start-up
Press and hold the power button for about 3 seconds to turn the device on. Follow the on-screen prompts to select the display language and confirm.
Terms of Service
Read and accept the terms of service to proceed.
Translator Functionality
Main Screen
The main screen of the Vasco Translator M3 provides access to its features. The device is now ready for use.
Translator
The Vasco Translator M3 recognizes voice input and translates full sentences into supported foreign languages, pronouncing the translated text aloud. A GSM or Wi-Fi network is required for translation. The Translator app can be launched from the "Application menu".
Choosing Source and Target Languages
To select languages:
- Tap the flag symbol to view the list of available languages.
- Swipe up or down to find the desired language.
- Tap the language name to activate it.
- Voice recognition can also be used to select a language.
Using Voice Recognition for Language Selection
You can select languages by tapping any flag, tapping the microphone button, or by saying the language name (e.g., "Russian").
If the device is unsure of the language, it may display options like "Did you mean..." with a language list for confirmation.
Voice Input for Translation
Use the buttons below the screen to enter text for translation. Press and hold the button, or press it once. After a beep, speak clearly in a natural voice from about one foot (30 cm) away. The translation is completed automatically after 0.5 seconds.
Playback and Settings
Tap the text to play it back. The quality of voice recognition may be affected by loud environments.
- Tap the back arrow (←) to return to the previous screen.
- Tap the gear icon (⚙️) to access application settings.
History
Access "History" to manage translation history. The "Remember" option saves translations. If unchecked, history entries will be deleted.
- Share: Share selected translations or the entire history via email.
- Clear: Tap to delete all history entries.
Speech Settings
Access "Speech" settings to configure:
- Automatic: Enable/disable automatic speech translation.
- Rate: Adjust the speech rate.
Others
I'm in China: Enable English speech recognition in China.
Pronunciation
Pronunciation starts automatically. Tap the text to listen again. Pronunciation may not be available for all languages.
Translation History
View past translations chronologically. Swipe to navigate, tap to playback, and tap-and-hold to delete.
Application Menu
Tap the dots icon (⋮) in the top right corner to access the application menu. Tap the back arrow (←) to return to the main screen.
Photo Translator
The Photo Translator feature allows text recognition from images and translation into a chosen language.
- From the application menu, tap "Photo Translator".
- Press a flag to select the target language.
- Tap "OK" to confirm.
Using the Camera for Photo Translation
- Point the camera at the subject, ensuring all text is visible on the screen.
- The camera will focus automatically. Touch the shutter icon (◆) to capture the image.
- If the photo is not sharp, tap the cross mark (✕) to discard or the check mark (✓) to confirm.
- The text will be recognized, and the translation will be displayed after a few seconds. Tap the screen to view the recognized text and translation.
Camera Settings
Tap the gear icon (⚙️) for camera settings (for advanced users). Tap the lightning bolt icon (☆) to control the flash.
MultiTalk
This application facilitates multilingual conversations for groups of up to 100 people, such as in meetings or conferences.
- From the application menu, tap "MultiTalk".
Creating a User Profile
- Tap the flag to select your language.
- Enter your name in the provided field and tap "OK" to confirm.
Creating or Joining Conversations
- You can create your own conversation or join an existing one.
- To create a new conversation, tap "Create" and share the QR code or number with another user.
- To join a conversation, tap "Join" and scan the QR code or enter the conversation number.
Joining by Number
Enter the conversation number using the keypad and tap the check mark (✓) to confirm.
Press and hold the "Speech Recognition" button, and after the beep, speak your sentence.
TranslaCall
TranslaCall is used to translate phone calls.
- From the application menu, tap "TranslaCall".
- Set your language by tapping the flag, then set the language of the person on the other end of the phone and press "OK".
- Follow the on-screen tutorial.
Making a Translated Call
- Dial the number on your smartphone and wait for the connection.
- Press "Start".
- After the connection is established, turn on your phone's loudspeaker.
- Place the Vasco M3 on your phone as shown in the diagram.
- Press the button on the device and start talking, or play the voice instruction for the caller.
- The person on the other end will hear a message indicating the call is being translated.
- Press the speech recognition button corresponding to your language. When its name is heard, start speaking. Your sentences will be translated in real time.
Learning
The "Learning" application helps memorize words and learn vocabulary.
- From the application menu, tap "Learning".
- NOTE: Connect to a Wi-Fi network to update the vocabulary database. Basic content is available without Wi-Fi.
Selecting a Language to Learn
Scroll the list and tap the flag to select the language you want to learn.
Progress Tracking
The main screen shows completed lessons. "My progress" displays pie charts and a list of known words.
Lesson Mode
- Tap "Lesson" to start learning. Words appear first in your language.
- Tap the eye icon (👁) to display the word in the target language.
- The device reads the word aloud. Tap the text to listen again.
- Tap the lightbulb icon (💡) if you already know the word to exclude it from future lessons.
- Tap the repeat icon (⬅) to repeat the word.
- You can end the lesson or proceed to the next one.
Settings
- Direction: Change the language order.
- Language: Change the language you want to learn.
- Clear progress: Delete learning progress for all or selected languages.
- Speech: Adjust speech rate and enable/disable automatic pronunciation.
Device Settings
From the application menu, tap "Device Settings" to configure Wi-Fi, SIM card, check for updates, or change the application language.
Wi-Fi Configuration
Manage Wi-Fi networks. If "WiFi is disabled" is shown, tap the Wi-Fi icon (☁) to view available networks. Tap a network name to connect. A padlock icon (🔒) indicates a secured network requiring a password. Signal strength is shown by green bars (▲). Open networks (without a padlock) may require additional steps like logging in and cannot be used with Vasco Translator M3.
SIM Configuration
(Only for advanced users)
Mobile Data and Roaming
Configure mobile data, data roaming, preferred networks, and network types.
Additional Voices
Download and install extra voices for supported languages. If you purchased an extra voice at the time of purchase, it is pre-installed. Otherwise, visit the Vasco Electronics web store to purchase and download voices using an activation code.
- To download, go to Device Settings > Additional voices > Enter.
- Enter the code using the camera ("Scan code") or the keyboard ("Enter code").
- A check mark (✓) indicates an installed voice. A download icon (↓) starts the download. A lock icon (🔒) indicates an unpurchased voice. An interruption icon (✕) indicates a failed download; check Wi-Fi connection.
Check for Updates
Tap "Check for updates" to see if new software versions are available. A Wi-Fi connection is required for updates.
About Device
View device version and read terms and conditions.
Application Settings
Within applications, tap the gear icon (⚙️) to access settings. Options vary by application.
Share Functionality
Share translations via email. Select conversations, tap "Share", provide email, and tap "Send". The history can be saved as a PDF.
Status Bar
The status bar displays:
- Battery status: Icon shows current battery level.
- Charging: Battery icon indicates charging.
- Wi-Fi: Icon shows Wi-Fi signal strength (▲), if the module is off (☁), or if available but not connected (✙).
- GSM: Icon shows GSM signal strength (▲).
- SIM Card: Icon indicates if the SIM card is damaged or not installed (☰).
- Data: Icon indicates if mobile data is disabled (☁).
Status Bar Panel
Swipe down to display the status bar panel. Swipe up to hide it.
