IQ Hardwire Power G (PGXWLSHW8) Firmware Update Guide

This document provides a step-by-step guide for upgrading the firmware on the PGXWLSHW8. Version 1.00 PGXWLSHW8 units require an update to version 1.10 to support the addition of hardwired HS2LCD N and HS2ICN N keypads. Future firmware updates will follow the same overall procedure outlined in this document.

Note: PG(X)WLSHW8 refers to the unit's model number, where (X) can be 9, 8, or 4, depending on the geographical market.

Required Components

Downloading the DLS 5 Software

The DLS 5 software can be downloaded from www.dsc.com. A username and password are required to access the installation files. DLS 5 software is designed for Windows 7 and higher.

Note: If DLS 5 is already installed, ensure it is up to date. Open the DLS 5 software, select "Help", then "Updates", and then "Check for updates". Install any available updates to complete the process. Proceed to step 7.

Procedure

  1. Open a web browser on the PC where DLS 5 software will be installed. Navigate to www.dsc.com. Click the "Security Professional Login" button at the top of the page. A screenshot of the DSC website homepage, showing the 'Security Professional Login' button highlighted in the top right corner.
  2. If you have a username and password for www.dsc.com, enter the information and click the "Login" button. Skip to step 5. A screenshot of the DSC website with a login pop-up window overlaid, showing fields for 'User Name' and 'Password', and 'Login' and 'Forgot your Password?' buttons.
  3. If you do not have a username and password, click on the "Register now for Extended Site Access" link. The login pop-up window is shown again, with the 'Register now for Extended Site Access' link highlighted below the login buttons.
  4. Enter your information on the registration page. Once complete, click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page. Processing may take up to 3 business days, but is usually quicker. You will receive an email notification when your username and password are approved. If you do not receive an email regarding your application within 3 business days, contact your local Technical Account Manager or Regional Sales Manager for assistance. Once approved, log in as directed in step 2. Connecting the PC-LINK to the PGXWLSHW8

  1. The kit shown is called “PC-LINK-USB”. This kit includes the PC-LINK header, cable, DB9 connector, and USB to serial adapter. The USB to Serial adapter included in the PC-LINK kit is currently the only adapter recommended for use with the DLS 5 software. 2. Observe the orientation of the 4-pin PC-LINK header on the PGXWLSHW8 PC-LINK five-pin connector. The header must be connected to pins 2 to 4 (from left to right) and inverted compared to the typical orientation for other DSC/JCI products. Pin 1 should be sticking out alongside the PC-LINK header as depicted. 3. Connect the other end of the PC-LINK cable to the PC. If the PC has a DB9 COM port available, connect the PC-Link DB9 connector directly. Otherwise, plug the PC-LINK DB9 into the USB to Serial DB9 connector, and then plug the USB end into a USB port on your PC.
