Installing the Flatbed

Before you begin, ensure your Kodak i2400/i2600/i2800 scanner is already installed.

  1. Connect the USB/power adapter to the Kodak A4 or A3 Flatbed Accessory.
  2. Insert the USB cable into the USB port of the USB/power adapter, then insert the other end of the USB connector into an available USB port on the host PC (must support USB 2.0 high speed).
  3. Connect the power supply to the USB/power adapter.
  4. Connect the AC power cord to the power supply, and then connect the AC power cord to the wall outlet.
  5. When the green LED indicator on the flatbed is solid, the accessory is ready for use.
  6. Verify that the green flatbed LED is illuminated before powering on the Kodak i2400/i2600/i2800 scanner. If the scanner was powered on before the green flatbed LED was solid, you will need to power the scanner off and on again.

Documents can be scanned using the scanner's start button or via the host PC. Pressing the flatbed start button initiates the same action as pressing the scanner's start button: it launches the selected application associated with the number displayed in the function window. Scanning multiple special documents with the flatbed will be easier using the flatbed start button to initiate scanning.

NOTE: Each time the start button is pressed, an image file will be generated.

LED Indicators: Light up or flash to indicate the scanner's status.

Using the Flatbed

Use the flatbed to scan documents that cannot be scanned using the automatic document feeder.

  1. Open the flatbed cover.
  2. Place the document face down on the glass platen.
  3. Position the document so the corner aligns with the arrow. [arrow-symbol]
  4. Close the flatbed cover.
  5. Initiate the scanning process. You can scan the document using the scanner start button, the flatbed, or the host PC.

Cleaning the Flatbed

Dirt or fingerprints may be deposited on the scanning surface glass of the flatbed, which could cause a decrease in image quality. Use Kodak Scanner Cleaning Cloths (Catalog # 896 5519) or Kodak Brillianize Scanner Cleaning Wipes (Catalog # 826 6488) to clean the glass platen.

IMPORTANT: Staticide cleaning cloths contain isopropanol, which can cause eye irritation and skin dryness. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after performing maintenance procedures. For more information, refer to the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

  1. Open the flatbed cover.
  2. Clean the glass platen with a Brillianize cleaning wipe (step 1) or a nearly dry Staticide wipe.
  3. Dry the glass platen with a nearly dry Brillianize cleaning wipe (step 2) or Staticide wipe to remove any streaks.
  4. Close the flatbed cover.

The Kodak Black Background Accessory (Catalog # 863 6870) is available for use with the Kodak A4 Flatbed Accessory. This accessory eliminates spotting when scanning both sides of a document. It can also be used to scan white documents with a defined black border for images.
