Getting Started

This section covers the initial setup and basic operations of your Huawei Watch GT Runner.

Buttons and Gestures

The watch features a responsive touchscreen and physical buttons for navigation and interaction.

Turning on the screen: Press the Up button or raise/rotate your wrist inwards. To enable wrist-based screen activation: Settings > Accessibility features > Gestures > Raise to wake. Swipe down on the home screen for the shortcut menu; enable 'Show Time' for the screen to stay on for five minutes. Adjust screen-on duration: Settings > Display & Brightness > Screen time.

Turning off the screen: Perform no operations for a period, or cover the entire screen.

Pairing and Connecting

Your watch is ready to pair via Bluetooth. Ensure your phone/tablet meets the requirements (HarmonyOS 2/Android 6.0/iOS 9.0 or later for phones, HarmonyOS 2 or later for tablets) and has Bluetooth and location services enabled.

HarmonyOS/Android users:

  1. Open the Health app > Devices > ADD. The app searches for devices. Touch 'LINK' next to the target device and follow instructions. If the device isn't found automatically, touch 'ADD', select it, touch 'PAIR', and follow instructions.
  2. When a pairing request appears on the watch, touch to start pairing. Confirm on your phone/tablet.

iOS users:

  1. Open the Health app > Devices > ADD, select the device, and touch 'PAIR'.
  2. For some models, pair via Bluetooth settings on your phone/tablet. Follow onscreen instructions. When a pairing request appears on your watch, touch .
  3. Open the Health app and follow instructions to finish pairing.

A successful pairing is indicated by an icon on the watch screen. An unsuccessful pairing shows a different icon.

Charging

Charging the watch:

  1. Connect the charging cradle to a power adapter, then to a power supply.
  2. Place your watch on the cradle, aligning metal contacts until a charging icon appears.
  3. The watch automatically stops charging when fully charged (100%).

It is recommended to use an official Huawei power adapter. Ensure the charging port is dry and clean. The magnetic charging cradle can attract metal objects; clean it before use. Avoid high temperatures.

Checking the battery level:

  • Swipe down from the home screen.
  • Check on the charging screen when connected to power.
  • View on a watch face that displays battery level.
  • Check in the Health app > Device details.

Wearing the Watch

Ensure the rear cover is clean, dry, and free of foreign objects. Attach the monitoring area snugly to your wrist. Do not apply protective film to the rear cover, as it contains sensors crucial for accurate heart rate, SpO2, and sleep data. To ensure measurement accuracy, wear the strap about one finger width away from your wrist bone, relatively tightly, and securely during workouts.

The device uses safe materials. If skin discomfort occurs, remove the device and consult a doctor.

Exercise

This section details how to use the watch for various exercise activities.

Starting a Workout

On your watch:

  1. Enter the app list and touch 'Workout'.
  2. Select a workout or course. Swipe up and touch 'Custom' to add modes.
  3. Touch the Start icon (ensure GPS is working for outdoor workouts).
  4. To end: Press the Up button and touch 'Stop', or press and hold the Up button.

In the Health app:

  1. Open the Health app, touch 'Exercise', choose a mode, and touch 'Start'.
  2. Your watch will sync real-time workout data (heart rate, speed, time) which will also display in the Health app.

Starting workouts in the Health app is not available on tablets.

Smart Companion

When enabled, 'Smart companion' provides real-time voice guidance during running sessions.

  1. Press the Up button > Workout.
  2. Touch 'Outdoor run', then the Settings icon next to 'Smart companion' to enable it.
  3. Return to the app list, touch 'Outdoor run', wait for GPS, and touch 'Run'.

When enabled, 'Smart companion' replaces the 'Reminders' feature.

Running Plans

The device offers customised training plans that adapt to your schedule and performance. The plan adjusts weekly based on your training and feedback.

Creating a running plan:

  1. Open Health app > Exercise > Outdoor run/Indoor run > AI running plan. Touch 'More' > select plan > follow instructions.
  2. On your watch: Up button > Workout > Courses & plans > Training plan. Touch 'Workout' on the training day.

Ending a running plan: Open Health app > Exercise > Plan, touch > 'End plan'.

Other settings: Open Health app > Exercise > Plan, touch . Options include 'View plan', 'Sync to wearable device', and 'Plan settings' (training day, reminder time, calendar sync).

Measuring Lactate Threshold

This feature is supported only on HUAWEI WATCH GT Runner.

Before measuring, complete your profile (gender, age, height, weight) in the Health app, ensure GPS is normal, and be in an open environment.

  1. On your watch: Up button > start lactate threshold measurement > confirm info > OK.
  2. Ensure requirements are met, touch OK, and follow instructions.
  3. After measurement, touch 'Workout records' to view results.

Viewing Workout Records

On the device:

  1. App list > 'Workout records'.
  2. Select a record to view details. Different workouts display different data.

In the Health app: View detailed workout data under 'Exercise records'.

Workout Status

Access 'Workout status' from the app list. Swipe up to view training load and VO2Max.

  • Training load (last 7 days) indicates fitness level, based on heart rate tracking workouts (running, walking, cycling, climbing).
  • VO2Max data is from outdoor running workouts. Requirements: At least one outdoor run per week (2.4 km within 20 mins), and data collected at least twice with intervals longer than one week.

Recording Daily Activities

Wear your watch correctly for automatic recording of calories, distance, stairs climbed, steps, moderate-to-high intensity activity duration, etc. Access 'Activity records' via the Up button > app list.

Auto-detecting Workouts

The device can automatically identify workout status. Enable 'Auto-detect workouts' in Settings > Workout settings. The device will remind you to start a workout when increased activity is detected. Supported modes: indoor/outdoor walk/run, elliptical trainer, rowing machine.

Route Back

When starting an outdoor workout with 'Route back' enabled, the watch records your route for navigation. To return to your starting point: App list > Workout > start outdoor workout > swipe left > select 'Route back' or 'Straight line'.

Health

Monitor your health with various features on your Huawei Watch GT Runner.

Heart Rate Data Broadcasts

  1. App list > Settings > HR Data Broadcasts.
  2. Read statement, go to > Go workout, select mode, start workout. Your heart rate data will be broadcast.
  3. To end: Press and hold the side button.
  4. Press the side button and touch to exit.

TriRing

'TriRing' displays steps, moderate-to-high intensity activity, and active hours.

  • Steps: Proportion of steps to daily goal (default 10,000). Adjust goal in Health app > Me > Settings > Goal.
  • Duration of moderate to high intensity activity: Default goal is 30 minutes. Calculated based on pace and heart rate intensity.
  • Active hours: Hours spent standing. An hour is counted if you walked for at least 1 minute. Recommended: Stand up hourly, achieve at least 12 active hours daily (7:00-22:00).

Sleep Tracking

Wear your device correctly for automatic recording of sleep duration and stages (deep, light, awake). Sleep data is measured from 20:00 the previous day to 20:00 the current day (24 hours).

Enable HUAWEI TruSleep™ in Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Health monitoring > HUAWEI TruSleep™ for accurate sleep stage recognition and analysis.

View sleep data in the Health app > Sleep card.

Measuring Blood Oxygen Levels (SpO2)

To ensure accuracy, wear the watch properly with a fastened strap, ensuring the monitoring module has direct skin contact.

Single SpO2 measurement:

  1. Wear watch correctly, keep arm still.
  2. Home screen > Up button > swipe screen > touch 'SpO2'.
  3. Keep body still during measurement.

Measurement runs in the background unless interrupted by calls/alarms. Data is for reference only, not medical use. Consult a doctor if uncomfortable. SpO2 measurement also tracks heart rate. Factors like low perfusion, tattoos, arm hair, dark complexion, arm movement, or low ambient temperatures can affect accuracy.

Heart Rate Measurements

For accurate heart rate measurement, wear the watch securely and ensure the monitoring module has direct skin contact.

Individual heart rate measurement:

  1. Open Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Health monitoring > Continuous heart rate monitoring, and disable it.
  2. App list > 'Heart rate' to measure.

This measurement can also be affected by external factors like low blood perfusion, tattoos, arm hair, dark complexion, arm movement, or low ambient temperatures.

Heart rate measurement for a workout: The device displays real-time heart rate and zone, alerting you if you exceed the upper limit. For better training, use heart rate zones.

  • Heart rate zones can be calculated by maximum heart rate percentage or HRR percentage. Set calculation method in Health app > Me > Settings > Workout settings > Exercise heart rate settings.
  • Maximum heart rate percentage: Zones (Extreme, Anaerobic, Aerobic, Fat-burning, Warm-up) based on max heart rate (default '220 minus age').
  • HRR percentage: Zones (Advanced anaerobic, Basic anaerobic, Lactic acid, Advanced aerobic, Basic aerobic) based on heart rate reserve (HRmax - HRrest).
  • During workout: Real-time heart rate is displayed.
  • After workout: Check average heart rate, max heart rate, and heart rate zone on the results screen.
  • Heart rate display pauses if the watch is removed but resumes when reattached.

Continuous heart rate monitoring: Enable in Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Health monitoring > Continuous heart rate monitoring.

Resting Heart Rate Measurement

Resting heart rate is measured when still and awake. Best measured upon waking.

Enable Continuous heart rate monitoring in Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Health monitoring. The device measures resting heart rate automatically. Data clears daily at 00:00 (24-hour clock).

Heart Rate Limit Warning

The watch vibrates if your heart rate exceeds the upper limit for over 60 seconds during a workout. Set the upper limit in Health app (iOS: Device > Heart rate limit interval and warning; HarmonyOS/Android: Me > Settings > Workout settings > Exercise heart rate settings).

Heart Rate Alerts

High heart rate alert: Enable Continuous heart rate monitoring and set a high alert in Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Health monitoring. Receive alerts if heart rate stays above the set limit for over 10 minutes (when not working out).

Low heart rate alert: Similar to high heart rate alert, but for low heart rate.

Stress Tests

Stress test feature is not available on HUAWEI WATCH GT Series outside mainland China.

Testing your stress levels: Wear watch correctly and keep still. Tests are not performed during workouts or frequent wrist movement.

  • Single stress test: Health app > Stress card > Stress test. Follow onscreen instructions to calibrate.
  • Periodic stress tests: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Health monitoring > Automatic stress test > enable. Tests run automatically.

Accuracy may be affected by caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, psychoactive drugs, heart disease, asthma, recent exercise, or incorrect wear.

Viewing stress data:

  • On the watch: Up button > app list > Stress > view graph, bar chart, intervals.
  • In the Health app: Stress card > view latest level, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly curves, and advice.

Breathing Exercises

App list > 'Breathing exercises'. Set duration (1, 2, 3 min) and rhythm (Fast, Moderate, Slow). Follow onscreen instructions. Results show training effects, heart rate, duration, and evaluation.

Activity Reminder

When enabled, the device monitors activity hourly (default). It vibrates to remind you to move if no movement is detected during the set period.

Disable in Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Health monitoring > Activity reminder. Reminders are not sent in Do Not Disturb mode, during sleep, or between 22:00-8:00.

Menstrual Cycle Predictions

The device predicts your next period and fertile window based on your cycle data.

  1. Open Health app > 'Cycle Calendar'. Grant permissions. If not visible, touch 'EDIT' on the home screen to add it.
  2. On 'Cycle Calendar' screen: 'RECORD PERIOD' > select start/end dates of your latest period. Record physical condition.
  3. Touch > 'Wearable device reminders' > enable reminders for period and fertile window.

Touch 'Records' to view/modify data. Predicted periods are marked with dotted lines. Reminders are sent before 8:00 AM the day before the predicted start, and at 8:00 AM on the day of other events.

Assistant

Access smart features and notifications through the Assistant.

Assistant·TODAY

View weather, wake voice assistant, access apps, and see calendar/AI Tips push messages.

AI Tips push messages require pairing with a phone running HarmonyOS 2/EMUI 11.0.1 or later.

Entering Assistant·TODAY: Swipe right on the home screen.

Apps

Feature available with Huawei phones/tablets: HarmonyOS 2/Android 6.0+ (phones), HarmonyOS 2+ (tablets).

Installing apps: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Apps > select app > Install.

Using apps: Up button > app list > select app > follow instructions. Some apps require phone connection.

Updating apps: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Apps > Manager.

Uninstalling apps: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Apps > Manager > Installation manager > Uninstall.

Receiving Notifications and Viewing/Deleting Messages

Enable notifications to sync messages from your phone/tablet status bar to your watch. This requires Bluetooth connection.

Enabling message notifications: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Notifications > turn on switch. Then, touch 'Apps' and enable for desired apps (Messaging, Email, Calendar, social media like Facebook/WhatsApp).

Viewing unread messages: Swipe up on the home screen to enter the unread message centre. A maximum of 10 unread messages are saved.

Messages viewed on your phone are deleted from the watch simultaneously. Notifications may be muted in Do Not Disturb mode, during sleep, or workouts.

Deleting unread messages: Swipe right on a message to delete, or touch 'Clear' to delete all.

Answering and Rejecting Incoming Calls

When a call comes in, the watch displays caller info. You can reject the call.

  • Press Up button to stop vibration.
  • Touch End icon or press and hold Up button to end the call.

Checking Your Call Logs

Viewing call logs: Up button > app list > 'Call Log' > view incoming, outgoing, missed calls.

Calling back: Touch any call record.

Deleting call logs: Swipe down > 'Clear'.

Music

Prerequisites: Watch must be connected to your phone.

Adding music: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Music > Manage music > Add songs.

Supports MP3, AAC (LC-AAC) files. Approx. 200-500 songs can be added. Check storage in Health app > Devices > Music > Manage music.

Controlling music playback on the watch:

  1. Up button > app list > 'Music' > .
  2. Swipe right to return, touch music to play.
  3. Playback screen options: switch songs, adjust volume, select playback mode (Play in order, Shuffle, Repeat). Touch to Delete song, Earphones, Watch, or Phone. Swipe up to view music list.

Controlling music playback on the phone:

  1. Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Music > turn on 'Control phone music'.
  2. Play music on your phone.
  3. On watch: Music app > .
  4. Swipe right to pause, switch, or adjust volume on your phone.

Supports third-party music apps. On watch playback screen, touch to select Watch or Phone control.

Stopwatch

Supports normal and segment-based timing.

Starting: Up button > Stopwatch > touch (start timing) or (segment-based timing).

Pausing/Resetting: Touch to pause, to reset.

Timers

Supports quick timers and customised timers.

Setting a quick timer: Up button > Timer > select duration > start timing. After expiry, watch vibrates. Touch X to exit or to repeat.

Setting a customised timer: Up button > Timer > Custom > select hour, minute, second > touch to start timing.

Pausing, resetting, exiting: Touch to pause, to reset, to exit.

Setting Alarms on Huawei Watches

Method 1: On your watch

  1. App list > Alarm > touch to add an event alarm.
  2. Set time and repeat cycle.
  3. Touch an alarm to delete or modify (only event alarms are deletable).

Method 2: In the Health app

Smart alarm: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Alarm > SMART ALARM. Set time, smart wakeup time, repeat cycle. Touch (Android) or Save (iOS) to confirm. Swipe down to sync.

Event alarm: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Alarm > EVENT ALARM. Touch Add to set time, tag, repeat cycle. Touch (Android) or Save (iOS) to confirm. Swipe down to sync.

Event alarms sync between watch and app (max 5). Default is one smart alarm. When an alarm sounds, touch to snooze, to turn off. Smart alarms wake you based on sleep stage. Alarms sync from phone.

Using the Torch

App list > Torch. Touch screen to turn on/off. Swipe right or press side button to exit.

Barometer

Measures altitude and air pressure, recording daily data in a waveform graph.

Viewing: Up button > app list > Barometer. Swipe up/down to view data.

Compass

Displays direction, longitude, and latitude. Follow onscreen instructions to calibrate.

Avoid magnetic interference during calibration.

Receiving Weather Reports

Enabling: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > enable Weather report > select temperature unit (°C/°F).

Viewing:

  • Weather card: Swipe right on screen.
  • On a watch face: Use a watch face displaying weather info.
  • Weather app: Up button > app list > Weather. Swipe up/down for weekly forecast.

Using the Watch to Find Your Phone

Swipe down on watch face > Find phone. If watch and phone are in Bluetooth range, the phone will ring (even in Silent mode). Touch watch screen or unlock phone to stop.

Works only when connected. iOS phones may have limited functionality if screen is off.

Using Your Phone to Find Your Watch

Requires Huawei phone (EMUI 11.0+), HUAWEI Mobile Cloud, Find Device, and Health apps installed and updated. Use the same HUAWEI ID.

In Find Device app: Select target device > Listen for the ringtone.

Remote Shutter

Watch connected to phone > app list > Remote shutter. Touch on watch screen to take photo. Touch for 2/5-second timer.

Available for phones: HarmonyOS 2/EMUI 10.1+; Tablets: HarmonyOS 2+. Health app must be running in background.

Connecting Bluetooth Earbuds

Method 1: Up button > Settings > Earbuds. Watch searches and pairs.

Method 2: Home screen > Up button > Music > > Earbuds.

Enabling or Disabling Do Not Disturb

Mutes calls and notifications, prevents screen from turning on with wrist raise.

Immediate: Swipe down > Do Not Disturb. Or Settings > Sounds & vibration > Do Not Disturb > All day.

Scheduled: Settings > Sounds & vibration > Do Not Disturb > Scheduled. Disable scheduled DND via the same path.

Voice Assistant

Make calls, check info, control smart home devices when connected to Health app. Requires latest watch software. Supported by Huawei devices only.

Using: Press and hold Down button > give voice command.

Alipay

Make payments using QR code or barcode on watch after linking Alipay account.

Linking Alipay: Swipe right on watch home screen to Alipay QR code screen, or app list > Alipay. Follow instructions to scan QR code on phone. Set device name, enter amount, complete payment.

Watch can make payments offline. If Alipay balance is not topped up, sequence is same as on Alipay.

Scanning to make payments: Swipe right to Alipay or Up button > app list > Alipay. Show payment code to merchant.

Unlinking Alipay: Up button > Alipay > Unlink. Balance will be refunded. Or search device in Alipay app > unlink. Deleting PIN removes all linked bank cards.

If watch is lost, unlink Alipay promptly. Factory reset unlinks Alipay automatically.

Activate, Top Up, and Make Payments with the Transport Card

Feature requires NFC. Top-up available on Android phones only. Update Huawei Health app. Only adult transport cards supported.

Activate: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > HUAWEI Wallet > + > transport card. Select card, top-up amount, ACTIVATE. Payment confirmation indicates activation. Complete after activation.

Currently, only WeChat payment is supported. Virtual transport cards only. Resetting wearable or changing account does not affect transport card. Feature available in select cities (e.g., Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen).

Top up: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > HUAWEI Wallet > select card > Card details > Recharge. Select amount and recharge.

Make Payments (Transport Card)

If multiple transport cards are activated, set a default in HUAWEI Wallet. Payments can be made even when the watch is off, disconnected from Bluetooth, or powered off. Hold watch screen near payment terminal.

Up to 10 payments possible after watch powers off due to low battery. Works via NFC, independent of phone connection.

Bank Cards

Feature available in certain countries/regions. Watch can make payments even when not connected to phone or internet.

Linking a bank card: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Wallet > + > Bank cards. Set PIN if first time. Scan or manually enter card number. Follow prompts for card issuing notice and SMS verification.

Linking bank cards not available with iOS phones. Factory reset removes linked cards.

Quick payments: Place watch face near POS device, select bank card, enter PIN for verification, and complete payment.

Removing a bank card: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Wallet > select card > > remove. Deleting screen PIN removes all linked bank cards.

Adjusting and Changing the Strap

Adjusting the strap (Three-bead metal strap): Push lever (arrow 1) to remove/install chain (arrow 2).

Changing the strap:

  • Non-metal strap: Remove and install in reverse order.
  • Metal strap:
    • Removal: For watch cases with one or two guide slots on a lug.
    • Installation: Insert spring bars into guide slots.
  • Fastening the watch buckle: Press middle position of buckle against a lug.

Leather straps are not waterproof. Keep dry and clean.

Configuring Gallery Watch Faces

Update Health app and device to latest versions before use.

Choosing Gallery watch faces: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Watch faces > More > Me > On watch > Gallery. Touch + to select Camera or Gallery for photo upload. Select/take photo, touch > Save.

Other settings: On Gallery settings screen, touch 'Style' and 'Position' to set font, colour, date/time display. Touch Cross icon to delete a photo.

Setting the AOD Watch Face

Enable Always On Display (AOD) to show main or AOD watch face when raising wrist.

Setting AOD: App list > Settings > Watch face & home > enable AOD. Select display mode. Go to AOD style > Default style > select a style.

Managing Watch Faces

Watch Face Store offers various watch faces. Update watch and Health app to download/delete.

Changing a watch face on your watch: Touch and hold watch face screen, or Settings > Watch face & launcher > Watch faces. Swipe left/right to select. Some watch faces can be customised by touching .

Installing/changing on phone: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Watch faces > More > select watch face. Touch 'Install' or 'SET AS DEFAULT'.

iOS phones do not support paid watch faces. Paid faces are non-refundable.

Deleting a watch face: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Watch faces > More > select watch face > .

Gallery or video watch faces cannot be deleted. Reinstall from Watch Face Store if deleted.

Setting Favourite Contacts

  1. Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Favourite contacts.
  2. On screen: Touch ADD to add contacts. Touch Sequence to sort. Touch Remove to delete.
  3. Touch a favourite contact from watch's app list to call.

Setting Time and Language

System language syncs with phone/tablet. Time and region changes sync automatically via Bluetooth.

Sound Settings

Setting ring volume: Up button > app list > Settings > Sounds & vibration > Ring volume. Swipe up/down to adjust.

Muting and unmuting: Up button > app list > Settings > Sounds & vibration > enable/disable Mute.

Customising the Function of the Down Button

  1. Up button > app list > Settings > Down button.
  2. Select an app to customise its function.

Pressing the Down button after customisation opens the selected app. If not customised, it opens the Workout app by default.

Adding Custom Cards

  1. Settings > Custom cards > select favourite apps (e.g., Sleep, Stress, Heart rate).
  2. Use up icon to reorder, delete icon to remove.
  3. Swipe left/right on home screen to open custom cards.

Adjusting the Screen Brightness

  1. Up button > app list > Settings > Display & brightness.
  2. If Automatic is enabled, disable it.
  3. Touch Brightness to adjust.

Updating the Watch

Method 1: Connect watch to phone > Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Firmware update > follow instructions.

Method 2:

  • Android: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > enable Auto-download update packages over Wi-Fi. Watch displays reminders for updates.
  • iOS: Health app > Profile picture > Settings > enable Auto-download update packages over Wi-Fi. Watch displays reminders for updates.

Watch disconnects from phone during updates.

MAC Address: On device: Settings > About.

Serial Number: On device: Settings > About.

Model: On device: Settings > About. Model name is also laser-engraved on the back.

Version Information: On device: Settings > About. Or Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Firmware update.

Powering On, Powering Off, and Restarting the Watch

Powering on: Press and hold Up button, or charge the device.

Powering off: Press and hold Up button > touch Power off. Or Settings > System > Power off. Watch may power off automatically if battery is critically low or standby time expires without charging.

Restarting: Press and hold Up button > touch Restart. Or Settings > System > Restart.

Force restarting: Press and hold Up button for at least 16 seconds.

Restoring the Device to its Factory Settings

Method 1: Settings > System > Reset on watch.

Method 2: Health app > Devices > [Your Device Name] > Restore factory settings.

Personal data will be cleared. Exercise caution.
