MAGNUM S9 EXPORT FREQUENCY CONVERSION
JP102 Jumper Block
The JP102 Jumper Block, located on the Channel Board (PCBX-0335R3A), is used to configure various operational modes for the Magnum S9 radio.
Jumper Functions:
- JP1: 10M/Band Select/Export Frequency
- JP2: Program Mode/Lock Bands
- JP3: Normal Spacing/10 KHz/5 KHz
- JP4: 5 Digit/6 Digit Frequency Display
Jumper Settings:
Jumper | OFF State | ON State |
---|---|---|
JP1 | 10 Meter Band | Export Band |
JP2 | LOCKED | Program Mode |
JP3 | Normal Steps | 10 KHz/5 KHz |
JP4 | 6 Digit All Mode | 5 Digit AM/FM |
Detailed Jumper Functions:
- JP1 sets the radio to 10 Meter Band, selects a specific band, or enables Export Band mode.
- JP2 enables the Programming Mode or locks the bands.
- JP3 sets the channel spacing to Normal steps or to 10 KHz or 5 KHz using the front panel 10 KHz switch.
- JP4 sets the frequency display to 5 or 6 digits.
Introduction
The Magnum S9 is factory programmed for the 10 Meter Amateur Band, covering frequencies from 28.065 to 28.525 MHz. For export use, the frequency range can be extended across 8 band segments, each containing 40 channels. These bands can be programmed in any combination of eight 40-channel blocks, spanning from 25.615 to 30.555 MHz. The radio also supports programming for all frequencies within 10 KHz or 5 KHz steps between 26.000 and 32.990 MHz.
Operational Modes
10 Meter Only Mode
The default factory setting restricts the radio to 4 bands between 28.065 MHz and 28.525 MHz. The jumper setting for this mode is: JP1 = OFF, JP2 = OFF, JP3 = OFF, and JP4 = ON.
Export Mode
This mode is pre-set to cover 8 bands, ranging from 25.615 MHz to 29.205 MHz. The jumper setting for this mode is: JP1 = ON, JP2 = OFF, JP3 = OFF, and JP4 = ON.
Programming Mode
This feature allows for custom band setup, enabling the radio to be configured into 8 separate bands. Each band can be programmed to cover any 40-channel segment within the 25.165 MHz to 30.555 MHz range. For example, Bands A and B could cover 25.165-26.055 MHz, Band C could be the CB Band (26.965-27.405 MHz), and Bands D, E, and F could cover 10 Meters (28.315-29.655 MHz).
Programming Procedure:
- Disconnect the power source after programming to ensure the CPU resets properly.
- Set the radio's Band Selector to position A.
- Using two short bare wires, temporarily short the pins of JP2 and JP4 (with JP1 and JP3 set to OFF). The Channel Display will now show letters (A through L) instead of channel numbers.
- Temporarily short the pins of JP1 on the Channel Board with another short wire. The Channel Display will advance to the next band letter each time JP1 pins are shorted. Continue advancing through the letters until the desired band for Position A is displayed.
- Move the Band Selector to position B and repeat step 4 (shorting JP1 pins) to select the band for Position B.
- Repeat this process for each of the 8 band positions.
- Once all 8 band positions are set, move the jumpers to the following configuration to lock the settings into memory: JP1 = ON, JP2 = OFF, JP3 = OFF, JP4 = ON.
The radio is also capable of covering the entire frequency range between 26.000 MHz and 32.990 MHz in 10 KHz steps or 5 KHz steps (when the 10 KHz Front Panel switch is OFF). The jumper setting for this is: JP1 = ON, JP2 = OFF, JP3 = ON, JP4 = OFF.
Frequency Chart
The following chart details the frequency ranges for the Export Band mode (JP1 = ON, JP2 = OFF, JP3 = OFF, JP4 = ON).

Programming Notes
- Replace the metal cover on the Channel Board after programming to help reduce receiver noise.
- The Channel Display does not indicate channels when using the 10 KHz or 5 KHz modes.
- Jumper JP4 sets the frequency display to either 5 digits (for AM/FM Only) or 6 digits (for All Modes).
Important Notes:
- The VCO coil (located behind the channel board) may require re-adjustment for band coverage above 30 MHz.
- Transmit power above 29.990 MHz is not guaranteed.
