Site Preparation

This appliance can be installed directly against rear walls and side base cabinets. It cannot be installed directly against tall side cabinets, side walls, tall appliances, or base cabinets extending beyond 24 inches [610 mm].

Side trims must be at least 11/16 inch [17.5 mm] above adjoining counter top surfaces.

Seal any openings in the back wall or floor of the installation site.

Ensure access for cleaning and servicing. Due to size and weight, use a rolling lift jack, air sled, or pallet jack for moving. Do not push against edges or sides. Use gloves during installation. Do not use the kick panel or oven door handle for moving.

Level the appliance using a carpenter's level (side-to-side, front-to-back, diagonally). Bullet legs can be adjusted. Shim edges if installed in an island or cabinet cut-out.

Seal any openings in the wall behind the range and in the floor under the range.

Clearances

The maximum depth of cabinets installed above cooling tops should be 13 inches [330 mm].

[Diagram Description: A diagram illustrates clearance requirements, showing that cabinets installed above the range's cooling top should not exceed a depth of 13 inches.]

Installation - Unpacking

  1. Check the package for damage. Note any visible damage on the Bill of Lading. Contact the dealer if damage is visible.
  2. Ensure the container is upright. If damaged, do not refuse delivery; contact the dealer and file freight claims. Save all packaging material. Shipping damage claims are between the customer, carrier, and dealer.
  3. Move the container close to the installation location.
  4. Cut straps holding the carton to the pallet. Lift the box directly up and off the appliance. Do not use a hammer or cut the carton with a knife.
  5. Inspect the appliance for damage. If damage is found, contact the dealer and file freight claims. Save all packaging material.
  6. Remove and unpack all accessories. Ensure no hardware is left to be disposed of unintentionally.

Range Dimensions

[Diagram Description: A diagram displays the dimensions of the BlueStar free-standing ranges. Key dimensions typically include width, depth, height, and specific measurements for components like the backguard or oven cavity, varying by model.]

[Table Description: A table lists the total weight of appliances by width: 24" units weigh 275 lbs, 30" units weigh 300 lbs, 36" units weigh 375 lbs, 48" units weigh 550 lbs, and 60" units weigh 700 lbs.]

Casters

Appliance is for use only with specific legs or casters specified by the manufacturer.

When casters are used on two or more legs, installation must be on 1/8" (2mm) thick commercial grade vinyl composition floor finishing materials or equivalent.

Caster load ratings: Each swivel caster is rated for 250 lbs. Units have 4 casters (1,000 lbs total) for 24", 30", 36" models, and 6 casters (1,500 lbs total) for 48" and 60" models.

When using casters:

  • Use a connector complying with ANSI Z21.69/CSA 6.16 and a quick disconnect device complying with ANSI Z21.41/CSA 6.9.
  • Provide adequate means to limit appliance movement, independent of the connector and piping.
  • Attach restraining means to the appliance.
  • Ensure restraint is reconnected after moving the appliance.

Backguard

All ranges require a backguard. Options include: grate height trim, island trim, 6" standard, 17" hi-back, or 24" high shelf. Heritage Classic models require a 24" high shelf for all installations.

If using an island trim or grate height trim without a 6-inch clearance to a combustible surface, the back wall must use non-combustible, heat-resistant materials extending at least six inches below the range top surface.

Installation: Remove rear grates, slide backguard over the rear of the unit, align holes, and fasten with supplied hardware. Install a minimum of six sheet metal screws into the cooktop support, three on each end and more along the bottom edge. Replace removed grates.

Anti-Tip Bracket

DO NOT stand on the door or use it as a step. Install the anti-tip bracket prior to installing the BlueStar range.

The anti-tip bracket must be securely anchored to the sub-floor. Consult a qualified floor covering installer for the best procedure for drilling mounting holes through your floor covering.

Install the bracket 1 3/4" from the left side of the unit and flush against the wall, with fastener holes closest to the wall.

[Diagram Description: An illustration shows the anti-tip bracket being installed on the floor, 1 3/4 inches from the left side of the appliance, and flush against the wall.]

Gas Connections

Installation must conform to applicable local codes or the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54 (or CAN/CGA B149.1 and B149.2 in Canada).

  • Maximum gas pressure must not exceed 14 inches water column (wc) or 1/2 psi.
  • Verify appliance and gas supply match (Natural Gas or LP). Check the rating plate.
  • Leak testing must be conducted per manufacturer's instructions.
  • Incoming gas pressure should be 1" wc above appliance rating (5" wc for Natural Gas, 10" wc for LP).
  • The gas supply line must be the same size or larger than the appliance's gas inlet (typically 3/8" or 1/2" NPT). A larger supply line is recommended.
  • Sealant used on pipe joints must be LP gas resistant.
  • An installer-provided manual shut-off valve must be installed in the gas supply line ahead of the appliance and be easily accessible.
  • All gas cooking equipment requires a pressure regulator. This appliance is equipped with one. Check incoming pressure with a manometer. Correct manifold pressure: 5.0" wc for Natural Gas, 10" wc for LP gas.
  • Incoming line pressure upstream of the appliance should be 1.0" wc greater than the operating manifold pressure. Do not remove or bypass the factory-installed regulator.
  • The factory regulator withstands up to 12" wc input pressure. A step-down regulator is required if input pressure exceeds this.
  • Disconnect appliance from gas supply during pressure testing exceeding 1/2 PSI [3.5 kPa].
  • Close appliance shut-off valve during pressure testing less than 1/2 PSI [3.5 kPa].
  • Ensure installer-supplied pipes and fittings are clear of debris before connecting. Clogs are not covered by warranty.
  • If using flexible couplings and/or a "quick disconnect," use commercially approved connectors complying with ANSI Z21.41 (or CAN 16.10-88 in Canada) and a strain relief device.
  • Test all gas connections for leaks using a soapy water solution. DO NOT USE AN OPEN FLAME.
  • Air shutter adjustments are preset but may need fine-tuning by the installer. These adjustments are the installer's responsibility and not covered by warranty.
  • Field gas type conversion may void the warranty. Contact your dealer for conversion information.
  • Burner heads must be re-installed in their original locations to ensure proper lighting and flame.

Electrical Connections

Installation must conform to local codes or the National Electric Code, ANSI/NFPA 70.

  • This appliance uses a standard three-prong polarized NEMA 5-15P line cord for a 120 Volt, 15 AMP outlet.
  • Removing the grounding prong voids the warranty.
  • The cord exits the appliance at the lower rear, toward the right side (viewed from front).
  • The appliance will not operate if the electrical supply is off or interrupted.
  • The applicable wiring diagram is affixed to the appliance.
  • The circuit must be grounded and polarized.
  • A non-GFCI dedicated line is recommended for this appliance.
  • Avoid including a microwave oven on the same circuit.

WARNING: This appliance is equipped with a three-pronged grounding plug for shock hazard protection. Plug directly into a properly grounded receptacle. Do NOT cut or remove the grounding prong. Severe shock hazards exist if the appliance is not grounded or its polarity is reversed.

Service

To access control valves or switches behind the front control panel:

  1. Remove knobs.
  2. Remove screws attaching the control panel to the base structure (under top grates).
  3. Remove screws from each bottom end of the control panel.
  4. Pull the control panel forward to remove.

Replacement Parts

Replacement parts can be acquired by calling BlueStar Customer Service at 1-800-449-8691 or Fax (610) 376-2596.

Ventilation

Proper ventilation is crucial for good operation. The appliance must be installed under a ventilation hood.

It is recommended that the hood be six inches [150 mm] wider than the appliance.

A strong exhaust fan can create a room vacuum. For proper air balance, work with your dealer/contractor to size the hood and exhaust fan. An exhaust hood powerful enough to move a minimum of 300 CFM is recommended.

IMPORTANT: All gas burners require sufficient air. Do not place large objects in front of the appliance that obstruct airflow through the front. Do not place objects on the rear backguard while in use, as this could obstruct the oven's flue product venting system.

Performance Checklist

This checklist ensures proper installation and must be mailed or faxed within 15 days of installation with a copy of your receipt to validate your warranty. Failure to do so will void the warranty.
