Settings Menu
Access the Settings menu to configure your controller:
- Board Pairing: Manually initiate the pairing process with your eFoil.
- Screen Brightness: Adjust LCD backlight (AUTO, LOW, MED, HIGH). AUTO uses an ambient light sensor; LOW conserves battery.
- Change Units: Switch between metric (km, km/h, Celsius) and imperial (miles, mph, Fahrenheit) units. Imperial is the default.
- Smartphone Pairing for Updates: Connect to the Lift app (iOS/Android) to update controller firmware. Follow in-app instructions. Do not power off during updates.
- Info/About: View controller and board firmware versions. Perform a factory reset from this screen.
Pairing the Hand Controller to the Lift eFoil
There are three pairing methods:
- AUTO-PAIR PROCESS: After powering up, the controller attempts automatic pairing. Ensure both controller and eFoil are off. Turn on the eBox, press and hold the Relay button for three seconds to enter pairing mode. Power on the hand controller. It will display 'Attempting to Pair' and then 'Paired with Board' upon successful connection. This process occurs on first use or after a factory reset.
- PAIR THROUGH THE SETTINGS MENU: Navigate to Settings > Board Pairing to connect to a different board.
- PAIR WITH THE SELECT AND POWER BUTTONS: Hold both Select and Power buttons during Lift initialization. The controller will attempt to pair for 45 seconds. If unsuccessful, 'Unable to Pair' will display. Once paired, the controller is tethered to that board. If the board is off or out of range, 'Lost Connection' will appear. Press Select to cancel pairing.
Note: The Elite Hand Controller is only compatible with the LIFT4 eFoil and future models. Previous generation eFoils require the Lift Classic Hand Controller.
Charging the Hand Controller
Attach the magnetic USB-C charging cable to the port on the underside of the controller. Plug into a USB-C power source. The green LED next to the Lift logo will blink while charging and remain solid when fully charged. Charging is faster when the controller is powered off. A full charge takes approximately two hours from depletion. Ensure the charge port is clean and free of debris.
Installing the Hand Strap
For secure use, install the hand strap before riding. Thread the strap through the upper and lower anchors on the controller, choosing the side that suits your dominant hand. Adjust the strap for a snug fit and tuck excess ends into the fabric panel.
Adjusting the Trigger Position
Customize trigger placement for comfort:
- Insert the T10 Torx wrench into the trigger bolt and turn counterclockwise to loosen.
- Slide the trigger along its rail to the desired position.
- Tighten the bolt clockwise with the wrench. Do not overtighten.

Maintenance and Storage
Turn off the hand controller before dismounting or removing the board from water. Rinse the controller in fresh water and dry it. Store in the provided protective case, ideally the Lift Propulsion Case. Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight. Ideal storage temperatures are 32-86°F (0-30°C); acceptable range is 14-104°F (-10-40°C). Storing outside these ranges can drain the battery faster.
