Important Information for the User
Please read this manual carefully to maintain the aesthetic and functional qualities of your appliance.
Safety Warnings
Fundamental Safety Precautions
Keep these instructions safe. If the appliance is passed on to others, also provide them with these instructions.
Risk of electric shock: As the appliance operates with electrical current, it is essential to observe the following safety warnings:
- Do not touch the plug with wet hands.
- Ensure the mains socket used is always perfectly accessible, allowing the appliance to be unplugged immediately if necessary.
- To unplug the appliance from the mains socket, pull only the plug. Do not unplug by pulling the cable or with wet hands.
- In case of appliance malfunction, do not attempt to repair it. Switch off the appliance, unplug it from the mains socket, and contact Smeg technical support.
- If the plug or power cord is damaged, have it replaced only by the technical support service to avoid any risk.
- Never immerse the appliance, power cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.
- Caution: Risk of injury! Improper use of the appliance can cause injury. Unplug the appliance before cleaning.
- Do not let the power cord hang from the table or any other surface, and do not let it come into contact with hot surfaces.
Risk of suffocation from plastic packaging: Keep packaging materials (plastic bags, expanded polystyrene) out of the reach of children.
- Do not place the appliance on or near electric or gas ovens, or in a heated oven.
- Do not wash the appliance in a dishwasher.
Connecting the Appliance
Caution! Ensure that the mains voltage and frequency correspond to those indicated on the rating plate located at the bottom of the appliance.
Connect the appliance only to a properly installed socket with a minimum rating of 10 A and equipped with effective earthing. If the socket is incompatible with the appliance plug, have it replaced by qualified personnel with a suitable alternative plug.
To prevent a hazard due to accidental resetting of the thermal cut-out, this appliance should not be supplied through an external switching device, such as a timer, or connected to a circuit that is regularly switched on and off by the utility.
- Do not use adapters.
- Do not use extension cords.
- Do not pour liquid onto the power plug or the power base.
Failure to comply with these warnings may result in death, fire, or electric shock.
- Keep the appliance out of reach of children under 8 years old.
- Children should not play with the appliance.
- This appliance may be used by persons (including children from 8 years old) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, only if they are supervised by an adult or have been trained in the safe use of the appliance and understand the associated risks.
- Cleaning or maintenance operations may be carried out by children aged 8 and over, only under adult supervision.
- Unplug the appliance from the mains socket before any assembly, disassembly, or cleaning operation.
Risk of Burns
- Allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning.
- During operation, the coffee machine generates heat and produces hot water and steam. Avoid contact with steam or boiling water.
Intended Use
- Use the appliance only indoors and at an altitude of up to 2000 meters.
- Use the device solely for preparing coffee-based beverages from ground coffee beans or for obtaining hot water. Any other use is considered inappropriate.
- Only water can be inserted into the tank. Use fresh, clean water.
- Use only original manufacturer spare parts. The use of spare parts not recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury.
- The appliance is intended for use in domestic and similar applications, such as:
- by employees in staff kitchen areas of shops, offices, and other working environments;
- by guests in hotels, motels, and other residential-type environments;
- in bed and breakfast type environments.
- Other uses, such as in restaurants, bars, and cafeterias, are inappropriate.
- Do not fill the water tank beyond the indicated maximum level.
- Do not use without water in the tank or without the tank.
- Use only coffee beans to obtain coffee powder, and do not put already ground coffee into the bean hopper.
- Do not place the appliance in a closed cupboard (built-in type).
Caution: To clean surfaces that come into contact with food, follow the specific cleaning instructions provided.
Manufacturer's Liability
The manufacturer disclaims all liability for damage to persons and property caused by:
- Use of the appliance other than its intended purpose;
- Failure to read the user manual;
- Tampering with any part of the appliance;
- Use of non-original spare parts;
- Non-compliance with safety instructions.
Disposal
Electrical appliances must not be disposed of with household waste. Appliances bearing this symbol are subject to European Directive 2012/19/EU. All used electrical and electronic equipment must be disposed of separately from household waste by handing them over to appropriate state-provided collection centers. By correctly disposing of the out-of-use appliance, environmental damage and risks to human health are avoided. For more information on the disposal of the out-of-use appliance, contact the municipal administration, the disposal office, and the store where the appliance was purchased.

Identification Plate
The rating plate indicates the technical specifications, serial number, and marking. The rating plate must never be removed.
Before First Use (Fig. A)
- Carefully unpack the appliance and remove all packaging materials.
- Rinse removable components with lukewarm water: water tank (5), lids (2, 4), access door (8) to coffee grounds container (12), drip trays (13, 14), and brewing unit (15).
Before any use, check that all components are intact and free from cracks.
Assembly of Components (Fig. B)
- Place the machine on a flat surface and attach the drip tray (14).
- Connect the power cord to the socket located at the rear of the machine and the other end to a power outlet.
Description of Controls and Alarms (Fig. A-C-D)
ON/OFF Button (9)
Press the button to turn the machine on or off.
Service Program Change Button (20)
The product has 8 functions, accessible via two menus: White Menu and Orange Menu.
Pressing this button allows switching between the 'White' and 'Orange' dispensing menus.

Empty Water Tank Alarm (21)
The corresponding indicator lights up and flashes when the tank (5) is absent, or when the water inside is missing or at an insufficient level. Position the tank or fill it with water.
No Coffee Beans Alarm (22)
The corresponding indicator lights up continuously, indicating that the coffee beans in the hopper (3) have reached the minimum level or are absent. Fill the bean hopper.
Coffee Grounds Container Alarm (23)
Solid light: Coffee grounds container (12) is full. Empty the container.Flashing light: Coffee grounds container (12) or internal drip tray (13) is missing or incorrectly positioned. The machine is blocked until the components are correctly positioned.
Brewing Unit Alarm (24)
Flashing light: Brewing unit is missing or incorrectly positioned. The machine is blocked until the brewing unit is correctly installed.Solid light: Indicates that cleaning of the brewing unit, its seat, and its accessible housing is recommended.
Descaling Alarm (25)
Solid light: Indicates that a descaling cycle is strongly recommended.Flashing light: All machine functions are blocked. A descaling cycle is essential to restore machine operation.
Grind Adjustment Dial (6) (Fig. D)
The appliance is equipped with a dial (6) to adjust the grind level as needed: Turn the dial (6) to the right 'A' to increase grind coarseness; turn the dial (6) to the left 'B' to decrease grind fineness (Fig. D). Turn the dial (6) to align the indicator (26) with the desired grind level.
△ Grind adjustment should be performed when the grinder is running or during the first use when the bean container is completely empty. Turning the dial (6) with the grinder stopped and beans inside could damage the grinding unit.
Operation (Fig. E-G-H)
- Lift the tank lid (4) and pour cold water into the tank (5), ensuring not to exceed the indicated 'Max' level, then replace the tank lid (4).
- Lift the bean hopper lid (2) and insert coffee beans into the hopper (3).
- Ensure the drip tray (14) is correctly positioned.
- Press the button (9) (1); the machine starts the heating phase, and the buttons flash sequentially.
Once heating is complete, an internal circuit self-cleaning cycle will run, and the machine will be ready for use.
For the first use, it is recommended to prepare at least one coffee to complete the run-in of all circuits.
For the first use, it is advisable to configure the water hardness. Refer to the 'Water Hardness Configuration' section.
After 20 minutes of non-use, the machine switches off. If at least one coffee has been prepared, the machine will perform a self-cleaning cycle. Press the button (9) to turn on the machine.
Changing Service Program
The machine has two dispensing menus stored: White and Orange. To switch from one program to another, press the button (20) 0. In the White menu, all buttons are lit white; in the Orange menu, all buttons are lit orange. For specific functions of each menu, refer to the 'Description of Controls and Alarms' section.
When the machine is switched off, the selected dispensing menu (White or Orange) is saved for the next startup.
Preparing a Beverage
- The position of the dispenser (11) can be adjusted according to the cup used. For very tall cups, the drip tray (14) can be removed.
- Place a small or large cup under the dispenser.
- Press the button for the desired function. For each selected function, preparation ends automatically. For specific functions, refer to the 'Description of Controls and Alarms' section.
- Once the beverage is served, all buttons light up steadily.
Dispensing can be stopped at any time by pressing the dispensing button again.
Do not forget to reinstall the drip tray (14) after preparing any beverage.
It is normal for the first coffees not to be at the correct temperature after prolonged inactivity of the machine (a pause of more than 20 minutes). Tips on how to get hot coffee immediately are provided in the 'What to do if...' section.
Using Steam
- Access the 'Orange' preparation program.
- Ensure the drip tray (14) is correctly positioned.
- Press the button (19), which will start flashing. Wait for the button to light up steadily and for the acoustic signal indicating that the correct steam dispensing temperature has been reached (19).
- Place a container with approximately 100 grams of milk under the steam nozzle (30) for each cappuccino. Immerse the steam nozzle slightly below the surface of the milk (about 1 cm).
- Then press the button (19) to start steam dispensing and tilt the container slightly, trying to stay as close to the surface as possible to avoid creating excessively large bubbles. Continue until the desired foam level is reached.
At the end of the operation, immediately clean the steam nozzle with a damp cloth (30).
The result of the steam function can be influenced by the ingredients used. For good results, it is recommended to use semi-skimmed or whole milk at refrigerator temperature (approx. 5%). To avoid obtaining poorly foamed milk or milk with large bubbles, always clean the cappuccino unit according to the instructions in the 'Cleaning and Maintenance' section.
- The maximum continuous steam dispensing time is two minutes. If you wish to stop dispensing before the automatic stop, press the button (19).
- After the automatic stop, steam can be resumed by pressing the button (19).
- After heating the milk, clean the inside of the steam nozzle by dispensing steam for a few seconds, ensuring the drip tray (14) is attached to the machine.
During and after steam dispensing, the steam nozzle (30) is hot. Risk of burns.
- Clean the steam nozzle after each use to prevent milk residue or clogging. For a complete cleaning of the steam nozzle, see the 'Cleaning and Maintenance' section.
- It is recommended to perform a manual rinsing cycle after each use of the steam function.
Customizing Quantity
It is possible to customize the amount of coffee or water dispensed for each type of beverage.
- Place a small or large cup under the dispenser.
- Press and hold one of the beverage preparation buttons for at least 3 seconds. The selected button will flash. The machine will emit a double beep to signal the modification of the preset program.
- When the desired quantity is reached, stop dispensing by pressing the button again. An acoustic signal indicates that the machine has memorized the quantity.
Any customized beverage settings are saved for future preparation.
To restore factory settings, press buttons (9) (1) and (20) (0) simultaneously for at least 3 seconds. The machine will emit a single beep to signal the restoration of factory settings.
Turning Off the Machine
- Ensure the drip tray (14) is correctly positioned.
- If there is no water, the machine remains in the rinsing position until the tank is refilled.
- Press the button (9) (4); buttons (16), (17), (18), (19) light up and flash sequentially, and the machine, if it has prepared at least one coffee, performs a self-cleaning cycle.
The machine turns off at the end of the self-cleaning cycle.
Machine Configuration (Fig. C-G)
A programming menu allows you to adjust water hardness and acoustic signals.
Activating/Deactivating Acoustic Signals
Acoustic signals can be deactivated/activated by holding down buttons (17) and (20) (O) for three seconds. Button (17) (1) flashes three times to indicate that the setting has been memorized.
Setting Water Hardness
The machine is factory pre-set to 'Hard Water Level'. You can program the machine according to the actual water hardness used in different regions, thus making descaling operations less frequent.
If you do not know the water hardness, use the provided test strip (33) following the instructions below:
- Remove the test strip from its packaging.
- Immerse the strip completely in a glass of water for about one second.
- Remove the strip from the water and shake it lightly. Read the results after about one minute.
- If the strip shows 5 blue colored notches, select the 'Light Water' configuration.
- If the strip shows 1 or 2 pink colored notches, select the 'Medium Water' configuration.
- If the strip shows 3, 4, or 5 pink colored notches, select the 'Hard Water' configuration.
To access the water hardness programming, press buttons (16) and (20) (0) simultaneously for at least three seconds; indicators (21) (1), (22) (1), (23) light up and flash simultaneously.
- Select the water hardness by referring to the following table. Pressing button (16) will light up the indicator corresponding to the selected hardness, while the others will turn off.

- To memorize the selected hardness, press buttons (16) and (20) (0) simultaneously for at least 3 seconds, or do not press any button for 15 seconds.
□ To prolong the machine's operation and preserve the aroma and taste of the coffee, it is advisable to use the Smeg Water Softener Filter (optional, not supplied). For installation and operation, follow the instructions accompanying the accessory. Once installed, program the water hardness level to 'Light' following the instructions in the previous paragraph.
Cleaning and Maintenance (Fig. C-E-F-G-H-I-L)
Improper use - Risk of damaging surfaces.
- Do not use steam jets to clean the coffee machine.
- Do not use cleaning products containing chlorine, ammonia, or bleach on metal parts (e.g., anodized, nickel-plated, or chrome-plated).
- Do not use abrasive or corrosive cleaners (e.g., powder products, stain removers, and metal scouring pads).
- Do not use rough, abrasive materials, or sharp metal scrapers.
Manual Rinsing
- Ensure the White program is selected with buttons (16), (17), (18), (19) lit white.
- With the machine ready for dispensing and the drip tray mounted, press buttons (20) 0 and (19) simultaneously for at least 3 seconds: the machine will rinse the coffee circuit (coffee dispenser 11) and the water circuit (steam nozzle 30).
- Once the cleaning cycle is complete, all buttons will light up steadily.
Cleaning the Machine Body
For proper preservation of external surfaces, they must be cleaned regularly after each use, once they have cooled down. Clean with a soft cloth dampened with water.
Never immerse the machine body (1) in water or other liquids.
Cleaning the Coffee Bean Hopper (3)
Allow the machine to cool before cleaning. To clean the coffee bean container (3), when it is empty, use the provided brush to remove any beans or residue. Always perform this cleaning operation when the machine is switched off.
For Each General Cleaning
To ensure the proper functioning of the machine and excellent beverage quality, simple cleaning operations are recommended, such as cleaning the drip trays (13, 14) and the coffee grounds container (12). It is also advisable to regularly clean specific machine components, such as the brewing unit (15) or the water tank (5). Refer to the specific cleaning paragraphs for details.
Cleaning the External Drip Tray (14)
The drip tray (14) is equipped with a red float (27) that protrudes from the cup grid as soon as the maximum liquid level is exceeded.
- Remove the tray (14) and the cup grid (28) and empty it.
- Clean the tray (14) and grid (28) under running water with a neutral dish detergent.
- Dry the components and reassemble them on the machine.
□ Do not wash components in the dishwasher, especially the cup grid.
Daily cleaning of the external drip tray is recommended.
Cleaning the Coffee Grounds Container (12) and Internal Drip Tray (13)
Always empty the coffee grounds container when the appliance is on. Only in this way is the coffee grounds counter reset. The counter resets at least 15 seconds after opening the various components, and once this time has passed, indicator 23 flashes.
- Remove the drip tray (14).
- Remove the coffee grounds container (12) with its tray (13) by pulling it outwards.
- Empty the coffee grounds from the container (12).
- Clean the container (12) and tray (13) under running water with a neutral dish detergent.
- Dry the components thoroughly and reassemble them on the machine.
When emptying the coffee grounds container, be careful to also remove any residual water from the internal drip tray. Daily cleaning of the coffee grounds container and internal tray is recommended. It is normal to find a little water in the internal tray. Clean and dry.
Cleaning the Water Tank (5)
- Remove the lid (4) and take the tank (5) out of the machine using the specific handle.
- Clean the tank (5) under running water with a neutral dish detergent and place it back in the machine.
(1) Limescale inside the tank can cause appliance malfunctions. Ensure the tank is always clean and free of limescale.
Cleaning the Brewing Unit (15)
(1) It is recommended to clean the brewing unit at least once a week.
- The coffee machine indicates when cleaning the brewing unit is recommended (solid indicator 24).
- With the machine on, press the lower part of the flap (8) until it detaches, then remove it from the top.
- Press the two release clips (29) on the sides of the brewing unit (15) and remove it from the machine (Fig. L).
- Wash the brewing unit (15) with running water and wipe it dry.
- Thoroughly clean its housing and conduit using the small cleaning brush (31) provided, as shown in Figure F.
- Dry thoroughly before reassembling the components.
- Reassemble the service door (8), ensuring it is correctly positioned.
□ Open the flap and clean the brewing unit always with the appliance switched on. Only in this way is the counter reset. The counter resets at least 10 seconds after opening the various components, and once this time has passed, indicator 24 turns off.
Each time this operation is performed, it is advisable to carry out a manual circuit cleaning cycle. Refer to the 'Manual Rinsing' section.
△ Do not wash the brewing unit in the dishwasher, as this could permanently damage it.
(1) Coffee grounds residue may be found in the brewing unit housing. It is recommended to clean the brewing unit thoroughly. Use the provided brush to remove any residue from the brewing unit housing.
△ Before closing the side flap, dry all components and internal parts using a dry cloth.
Cleaning the Steam Nozzle (30)
- Wait for the steam nozzle (30) to cool down completely before reassembling it.
- Remove the lower part (34) of the steam nozzle by turning it to the left to release it, then pull it downwards.
- Use the provided cleaning needle (32) to remove any scale from the steam outlet.
- Clean under running water and reassemble by following the reverse order.
Descaling
The coffee machine indicates when a descaling cycle is necessary based on the configured water hardness (for water hardness setting, see the 'Setting Water Hardness' section).
If indicator (25) H lights up steadily, it means a descaling cycle is necessary to avoid altering the coffee taste and damaging the machine. However, it will still be possible to prepare coffee and other beverages for a limited number of cycles. If indicator (25) H flashes, a descaling cycle is mandatory to continue preparing beverages.
To perform a descaling cycle, proceed as follows:
- Place a container with a capacity of at least 1.4 L under the dispenser nozzle (11) and the steam nozzle (30).
- Ensure the White program, with buttons lit white, is selected.
- Fill the tank (5) to the 'MAX' level with a solution of water and descaler at the doses recommended by the manufacturer.
- Once the machine is ready for dispensing, press buttons (20) 0 and (18) simultaneously for at least 3 seconds. Button (18) will flash orange, and indicator (25) H will light up continuously for the entire duration of the descaling cycle.
- It is important to remain near the machine throughout the descaling cycle, as user interventions may be necessary, such as refilling the tank (5). The total cycle duration is approximately 30 minutes.
- During the descaling cycle, the machine will pause several times to allow the descaler to act effectively. Wait until the end of the cycle.
- The descaling cycle ends when the solution in the tank (5) is finished, button (18) turns white, and indicators (21) and (25) H light up continuously.
- Pour clean water into the tank (5) up to the 'MAX' level to perform the rinsing cycle, then press button (18) to start the rinsing cycle. Button (18) flashes, and indicator (25) lights up continuously throughout the cycle.
Risk of personal injury.
- The descaler contains acids that can irritate the skin and eyes.
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety warnings on the packaging carefully in case of contact with skin or eyes.
- Use descaling products recommended by Smeg to avoid damaging the coffee machine.
A Any other maintenance must be carried out by an authorized service representative.
'System Emptying' Procedure
The 'System Emptying' procedure is recommended before long periods of non-use and before consulting a service technician.
- Activate the procedure by holding down buttons (16) and (19) for three seconds; buttons (17) and (19) will flash simultaneously.
- All the water in the tank is evacuated through the coffee circuit and the steam nozzle.
- The pump continues to operate, intermittently, to also empty the internal water circuits.
- Once the procedure is complete, the machine switches off.
A The system emptying procedure takes several minutes and involves various on/off cycles. Do not turn off the machine until the procedure is complete.
