NFS-3030/E OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Section 1 Operating Information

Normal Standby Operation

  • ? POWER indicator lit steadily.
  • ? FIRE ALARM indicator off.
  • ? TROUBLE indicators off.

Alarm Condition

  • ? FIRE ALARM indicator lit.
  • Alarm signaling devices activated.
  • Option module (remote station or supplementary alarm relay) activated.
  • Alarm information visible on LCD (liquid crystal display).

Alarm Reset

After locating and correcting the alarm condition, reset the control panel by pressing the SYSTEM RESET ⚙️ switch.

Trouble Condition

Activation of trouble ⚠️ signal under normal operation indicates a condition that requires immediate attention. Contact your local service representative. Silence the audible signal by pressing the ACKNOWLEDGE ⚙️ switch. The trouble ⚠️ indicator will remain illuminated.

Section 2 CPU-3030 Switch Functions

ACKNOWLEDGE ⚙️

This silences the piezo sounder and changes all flashing conditions to steady. It sends an acknowledge message to the printer and history file. ACKNOWLEDGE ⚙️ also automatically sends a special command to silence piezo sounders on ACS Annunciators. If more than one event exists, it advances the display to the next item and displays it until the ACKNOWLEDGE ⚙️ switch is pressed again. Only one press is necessary for non-fire, trouble ⚠️, or supervisory ℹ️ signals.

SIGNAL SILENCE ⚙️

SIGNAL SILENCE ⚙️ turns off all silenceable circuits and illuminates the SIGNALS SILENCED indicator. It also sends a SIGNALS SILENCED message to the LCD, printer, and history file. A subsequent alarm ? will then resound the system.

Notes:

  • This unit is programmed to inhibit signal silence for ____ seconds.
  • This unit is programmed to automatically silence alarm signal after _____ minutes.

DRILL ⚙️

The NFS-3030 waits for the DRILL ⚙️ switch to be pressed for 2 seconds (to prevent accidental activations), then turns on all silenceable circuits (all control modules/panel circuits that are programmed silenceable), and turns off the SIGNALS SILENCED LED. This event shows on the LCD, printer, and History file. Note: This switch is only available on NFS-3030 with keypad/display.

SYSTEM RESET ⚙️

Resets the control panel in standalone applications. Resets panel when enabled in network applications.

LAMP TEST ⚙️

Press and hold the ⚙️ switch to lamp-test the LEDs.

Section 3 LED Indicators

Power

? LED which illuminates when primary power ⚡ is applied to the control panel.

Fire Alarm

? LED that flashes when one or more alarms ? occur. Illuminates steadily after alarms are acknowledged, and turns off when SYSTEM RESET ⚙️ is pressed after alarm clears.

Pre-Alarm

? LED that flashes when a pre-alarm threshold is reached.

Security

? LED that illuminates for a security ?️ alarm. LED turns off after the alarm clears and SYSTEM RESET ⚙️ is pressed.

Supervisory

? LED that flashes when a Supervisory ℹ️ or Tamper condition occurs, such as a sprinkler valve tamper condition. The LED illuminates steady after conditions are acknowledged, and turns off when the conditions are cleared. The Tamper indication will latch until SYSTEM RESET ⚙️ is pushed.

System Trouble

? LED that flashes when one or more troubles ⚠️ occur. Goes on steadily when ACKNOWLEDGE ⚙️ is pressed, and turns off when all trouble ⚠️ conditions are cleared.

Other Event

Future use.

Signals Silenced

? LED that illuminates after SIGNALS SILENCED ⚙️ has been pressed. Turns off when DRILL ⚙️ or SYSTEM RESET ⚙️ is pressed.

Point Disabled

? LED that illuminates when one or more points are disabled. The LCD will indicate which points have been disabled. Turns off when points are re-enabled.

CPU Failure

? LED that illuminates if the microprocessor ? fails.

Section 4 CPU-3030 Audible Sounder

  • Alarm ?: A continuous sounding tone.
  • Trouble ⚠️: ? ? (Two beeps per second).
  • Supervisory ℹ️: ? ? ? ? (Four beeps per second).
  • Security ?️: ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? (Eight beeps per second).

Section 5 Periodic Testing and Maintenance

To ensure proper and reliable operation, system inspection and testing should be scheduled monthly, or as required by NFPA 72H or local fire codes. A qualified Service Representative should perform testing.

Before Testing

Notify fire department and/or central alarm receiving station if alarm ? condition is transmitted. Notify facility personnel of the test so alarm sounding devices are ignored during the test period.

Remote Connection Feature

ULC requires that devices such as UDACT and TM-4 be disconnected during annual testing to prevent transmission of false alarms ?.

  • UDACT: Disable by turning the internal AKS-1 keyswitch.
  • TM-4: Slide SW4 Disable All Output ⚙️ switch from "Enable" to "Disable."

After Testing

Verify that remote-connection devices are turned back on. Notify all fire, central station, and/or building personnel when testing is complete.

Section 6 Audio/Telephone System Information

Section 6 applies to voice and telephone ? systems only!

AMG-1 Audio Message Generator

  • Audio Level: This ? LED is illuminated when the audio level is correct.
  • All Call: This ? LED toggles ON and OFF with each press of the All Call ⚙️ switch.
  • On Line: This ? LED normally illuminates to show that the control panel is communicating with the Audio Message Generator.
  • Trouble: This ? LED illuminates to indicate the presence of a trouble ⚠️ local to the audio equipment (AMG-1, FFT-7/FFT-7S and amplifiers).
  • All Call ⚙️ switch: The All Call ⚙️ switch, when pressed, is used to activate all speaker ? circuits. These speaker ? circuits will deactivate when the All Call ⚙️ switch is pressed again (toggle function), provided an alarm ? is not present. If an alarm ? is present, the speaker ? circuits will return to the state held previous to the All Call. In dual-channel applications, press either All Call ⚙️ switch for the same result.
  • Speaker Volume: The local speaker ? volume control adjusts the volume of the speaker ? located on the AMG-1. It will not affect the volume of the speakers ? installed throughout the facility. If necessary, turn the volume down to prevent feedback during paging operations.
  • Microphone: The ? is used for paging operations. To page, select the speaker ? circuit(s) that you wish to page to by using the control switches on the VCM-4RK, DCM-4RK, or ACS annunciators or by using the All Call ⚙️ switch on the AMG-1. Press the switch on the side of the ? and speak into the ?. Talk loudly enough to cause the ? Audio Level LED to illuminate. If the Audio Level LED remains off for 30 seconds, a system trouble ⚠️ will result.
  • Speaker Circuit Select: To turn a speaker ? circuit on, press the control button for a specific speaker ? circuit on the VCM-4RK, DCM-4RK, or ACS annunciators. The LED for the circuit selected will illuminate. The control button toggles the state of this circuit.
  • Tone/Message Select: To select an audio output function (voice message or audio tone), press the control button. Note: An active audio function may have to be deactivated before selecting the next function.
  • Dual-Channel Select: To select a channel, press the control button on the DCM-RK for the desired channel. The LED on that point will illuminate. The control button toggles the selection of the channel. Channels must be selected for each speaker ? zone in a dual channel system.

FFT-7 and FFT-7S Fire Fighters ? Telephone

  • Page Mode (FFT-7 only): The ? LED will illuminate when the Page ⚙️ switch is depressed.
  • On Line: This ? LED will illuminate to show that power ⚡ is applied to the FFT-7/FFT-7S.
  • Phone Trouble: This ? LED illuminates to indicate an internal circuit trouble ⚠️.
  • Line Trouble: This ? LED illuminates to indicate an external circuit trouble ⚠️.
  • Page ⚙️ Switch: The Page ⚙️ switch allows the firefighter to page from the FFT-7. To page, select the speaker ? circuits that will carry the page by using the control button or by using the All Call ⚙️ switch on the adjacent AMG-1. Press the Page ⚙️ switch and talk loud enough into the handset to cause the ? audio level LED on the AMG-1 to illuminate.
  • Incoming Calls: The ? LED on the VCM-4RK mapped to a ? circuit will flash and the piezo will beep. DO NOT PRESS THE ACKNOWLEDGE ⚙️ BUTTON IN THIS CASE! To answer the incoming call, pick up the master handset and press the control button. Wait until the caller is connected (audible click in the receiver). To disconnect the call, momentarily press the telephone ? circuit control button again.
  • Remote Paging: Answer the incoming call as described above. Press the Page ⚙️ switch on the FFT-7 and select the required speaker ? circuits by using the control buttons or the All Call ⚙️ switch on the adjacent AMG-1. Any caller connected to the FFT-7 from a remote location can now page to the selected speaker ? circuits.
