Audio Authority Model 1109 Infrared Injector User Manual

Introduction

Thanks for purchasing this Model 1109 Infrared Injector from Audio Authority. The 1109 is an IR breakout device for up to six Audio Authority Cat 5 Wallplate receivers. This product is designed to allow any wired IR device to send signals to or receive signals from IR devices plugged into the Wallplate receivers used in AVAtrix or SixDrive systems. The Model 1109 is not recommended for currents more than 200mA.

When installed in-line between an 1170, 1171, or 1176 audio/video matrix and its six Wallplates, the IR jack on each Wallplate is hard-wired to a corresponding jack on the Model 1109. These jacks are isolated from all other system wiring and can therefore be used for any kind of low-speed signal suited for Category 5 cable conductors. The Model 1109 is compatible with any Audio Authority A/V Cat 5 Wallplate, including Models 9878, 9879, and 9880. Each Wallplate IR pathway operates independently, allowing one pathway to be set up for in-coming IR signals and another pathway in the same system for out-going IR signals.

Audio Authority also offers an extensive line of audio and video switchers, converters, and distribution amps available for purchase online at www.audioauthority.com or through authorized dealers.

Typical Application Diagram Description

The diagram illustrates a typical application where the AVAtrix system is connected to multiple TVs, often in a scenario where TVs are powered off at night and turned on automatically each morning using an IR device.

The setup involves:

This system allows IR signals to be routed from the head end (where the IR controller is) to the TVs via the Wallplates. The diagram specifically shows two Wallplates connected, out of the system's total capacity of six.

Installation

Applications

A typical installation is pictured, in which an IR controller sends serial data out to an IR emitter at the Wallplate location. In this example, IR signals are sent by a controller located in the equipment closet to a television at a remote Wallplate.

Many other uses are possible, since the 3.5mm jacks at each pair of endpoints are connected together as if they were a discrete patch cable. The 1109 may be used to route IR signals from the head end out to the Wallplates, or from the Wallplates back into the head end. Multiple 1109 IR Injectors may be used in one system to serve up to 36 Wallplates.
