Operation
To Open the Door Manually
WARNING: To prevent possible SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH from a falling garage door:
- If possible, use the emergency release handle to disengage the trolley ONLY when the garage door is CLOSED. Weak or broken springs or an unbalanced door could result in the door falling rapidly and/or unexpectedly.
- NEVER use the emergency release handle unless the garage doorway is clear of persons and obstructions.
- NEVER use the handle to pull the door open or closed. If the rope knot becomes untied, you could fall.
Procedure:
- Disengage any door locks.
- Ensure the door is fully closed if possible.
- Pull down on the emergency release handle.
Lockout Feature:
Pull the emergency release handle down and back to manually raise and lower the door. To disengage the lockout feature, pull the handle straight down. The trolley will reconnect on the next opener activation.
Battery Backup (Models B6713T, B6753T, B6755T)
The battery backup allows access during power outages. When operating on battery power, the opener runs slower, and lights, Timer-to-Close, and myQ® App features are disabled. The Automatic Garage Door Lock will unlock when the door is opened and remain disabled until power is restored. The battery provides power for up to 24 hours.
Battery Status LED Indicators:
- Green LED: All systems normal. Solid green indicates a full charge; flashing green indicates charging.
- Orange LED: Opener has lost power and is in battery backup mode. Solid orange indicates operation on battery; flashing orange indicates low battery.
- Red LED: The 12V battery needs replacement. Solid red indicates the battery will no longer hold a charge.

- Motion-Detecting Control Panel: Includes Push Bar, Service LED, LEARN Button, LOCK Button, Command LED, Light Button, and Motion Sensor.
The Protector System® (Safety Reversing Sensors)
WARNING: Be sure power is NOT connected to the garage door opener BEFORE installing the safety reversing sensor.
To prevent SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH from a closing garage door:
- Correctly connect and align the safety reversing sensor. This safety device MUST NOT be disabled.
- Install the safety reversing sensor so the beam is NO HIGHER than 6 inches (15 cm) above the garage floor.
The door will not close if sensors are not installed and aligned correctly. If the light beam is obstructed or misaligned while the door is closing, the door will reverse. If the door is already open, it will not close.
Sensor Alignment:
Align sensors by loosening wing nuts, adjusting position, and tightening. Ensure LEDs in both sensors glow steadily. The amber LED is for the sending sensor, and the green LED is for the receiving sensor. Both should be mounted no higher than 6 inches (15 cm) above the floor.
Troubleshooting Sensor LEDs:
- If either sensor LED is off: Check power to the opener, ensure the sensor wire is not shorted or broken, and verify correct wiring (white wires to white terminal, white/black wires to grey terminal).
- If the green receiving sensor LED is blinking: Sensors are obstructed or misaligned. Check for obstructions in the beam, align the sensors, or switch sensor sides if direct sunlight affects the receiving sensor.
Adjustment
WARNING: Without a properly installed safety reversal system, persons (particularly small children) could be SERIOUSLY INJURED or KILLED by a closing garage door.
- Incorrect adjustment of travel limits can interfere with the safety reversal system.
- After ANY adjustments, the safety reversal system MUST be tested. The door MUST reverse on contact with a 1-1/2 inch (3.8 cm) high object (or a 2x4 laid flat) on the floor.
CAUTION: To prevent damage to vehicles, ensure the fully open door provides adequate clearance.
The opener's electronic controls allow easy programming of the door's open (UP) and close (DOWN) positions. The force required is adjusted automatically during travel programming. The UP and DOWN buttons can be used to manually move the door during this process. The Automatic Force Setup involves the door automatically opening and closing.
Programming Buttons:
Located on the side panel of the opener: UP Button, Adjustment Button, DOWN Button.
1 - Program the Travel
Procedure:
- Press and hold the Adjustment Button until the UP Button begins to flash and/or a beep is heard. (Safety Reversing Sensors are disconnected during this process).
- Press and hold the UP Button until the door reaches the desired UP position.
- Once the door is in the desired UP position, press and release the Adjustment Button. The opener lights will flash twice, and the DOWN Button will begin to flash.
- Press and hold the DOWN Button until the door reaches the desired DOWN position.
- Once the door is in the desired DOWN position, press and release the Adjustment Button. The opener lights will flash twice. Travel programming is complete. (If lights flash 5 times, programming timed out; restart the process).
2 - Automatic Force Set Up
After manual travel limits are set, the Safety Reversing Sensors reconnect. The opener then performs a force-sensing operation, automatically opening and closing the door. An audible and visual alert precedes this cycle. Three beeps confirm successful completion. Adjustment is complete.
If a single long beep occurs after the door attempts to move, Automatic Force Set Up was unsuccessful. Restart the "Program the Travel" step.
Testing the Safety Features
3 - Test the Safety Reversal System
WARNING: Safety reversal system MUST be tested every month. After ANY adjustments, the safety reversal system MUST be tested.
With the door fully open, place a 1-1/2 inch (3.8 cm) board (or a 2x4 laid flat) on the floor, centered under the garage door.
Press the remote control push button to close the door. The door MUST reverse when it makes contact with the board.
If the door stops but does not reverse:
- Repeat "Program the Travel" (Adjustment Step 1).
- Repeat the Safety Reversal test.
If the test continues to fail, contact a trained door systems technician.
4 - Test the Protector System®
WARNING: Without a properly installed safety reversing sensor, persons (particularly small children) could be SERIOUSLY INJURED or KILLED by a closing garage door.
Open the door. Place an obstruction in the path of the door.
Press the remote control push button to close the door. The door will not move more than an inch (2.5 cm).
The garage door opener will not close from a remote control if the LED in either safety reversing sensor is off (indicating misalignment or obstruction). If the opener closes the door when a sensor is obstructed (and sensors are within 6 inches of the floor), contact a trained door systems technician.
Maintenance
Every Month:
- Manually operate the door. If unbalanced or binding, call a trained door systems technician.
- Check that the door opens and closes fully. Adjust if necessary (see page 14).
- Test the safety reversal system. Adjust if necessary (see page 1).
Every Year:
- Oil door rollers, bearings, and hinges. The opener does not require additional lubrication. Do not grease door tracks.
- (If applicable) Test the battery backup. Consider replacing the battery to ensure operation during power outages.
- Unplug the opener from AC power. The battery status LED will indicate power status (solid orange for battery power, flashing for low battery).
- Open and close the door using the remote or control panel.
- In battery backup mode, the Automatic Garage Door Lock unlocks when the door opens and remains disabled until power is restored.
- Plug the opener back in. Verify the battery status LED is flashing green (charging).
Remote Control Battery:
WARNING: To prevent possible SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH: NEVER allow small children near batteries. If a battery is swallowed, immediately notify a doctor.
To reduce risk of fire, explosion, or chemical burn: Replace ONLY with 3V CR2032 coin batteries. DO NOT recharge, disassemble, heat above 212°F (100°C), or incinerate.
To replace the battery: Pry open the case first in the middle, then at each side using a visor clip. Replace with a new 3V CR2032 coin cell battery.

Automatic Garage Door Opener Safety & Maintenance Guide
A garage door is the largest moving object in the home. Improper adjustment can exert deadly force, leading to entrapment, injury, or death. Proper installation, operation, maintenance, and testing are essential for a safe system. Careless operation or allowing children to play with controls can lead to tragic results.
Garage Door Openers are Not Toys
- Discuss safety with children and explain the danger of being trapped under the door.
- Stay away from a moving door.
- Keep transmitters and remote controls out of children's reach.
- Mount the wall-mounted push button out of reach of children (at least 5 feet from the nearest surface) and away from moving parts. Position it where the closing door is clearly visible.
- Keep the door in sight until it completely closes when using the wall-mounted push button or transmitter.
Routine Maintenance Can Prevent Tragedies
Make monthly inspection and testing a routine. Review your owner's manual for both the door and opener. Contact manufacturers for manuals if needed.
WARNING: Springs are under high tension. Only qualified individuals should adjust them.
Visually Check the Door and Installation:
- With the door closed, use the manual disconnect to disconnect the door from the opener.
- Look for signs of wear or damage on hinges, rollers, springs, and panels. Lubricate parts as recommended by the owner's manual. Contact a technician if damage is evident.
- Verify the photoeye height is no higher than 6 inches from the garage floor.
Test the Door for Proper Operation:
- Open and close the door manually. It should move freely and without difficulty.
- The door should balance and stay partially open 3-4 feet above the floor. Contact a technician if improper operation is detected.
Test the Opener Safety Features:
- Reconnect the opener and open the door.
- Place a 2x4 board flat in the path of the door and try to close it. The door should stop upon contact and reverse direction.
- Block the photoelectric sensor by waving an object in front of it and attempt to close the door. The door should not close unless the wall-mounted push button is manually held during operation.
If the opener does not perform as described, contact a trained door systems technician.
