The diagram on page 1 shows an exploded view of the Plastica Premium Reel System, illustrating the arrangement of components such as the telescopic tubes, bearing assemblies, hand wheel, stand frames, end caps, brake rod, and wheel assemblies. Each part is identified by a key number that corresponds to the parts list table.
Tube Assembly
- First, loosen the Allen screws on the assembled tube and insert the loose inner tube into the other end.
- Undo the Allen screws fixed to the short brass insert (item 19). Slide the brass insert rods inside the channel under the outer tubes until the holes line up. Insert brass screws (item 20) to clamp the tube.
- Fit the steering wheel end frame (item 9) into the tube and secure with the provided self-tapping screws. Ensure the channel lines up with the gaps in the end frames. This alignment is crucial for the plastic insert (item 25) to slide correctly into the tubes (item 16).
- Fit the non-steering wheel end frame (item 9) into the tube and secure with self-tapping screws. Ensure the channel lines up as described in the previous step.
- Position the assembled reel system squarely where it will be used.
- Adjust the reel system tubes to the required pool size. Typically, the tube length should be 2 feet (0.6m) longer than the pool width. This reel is suitable for a maximum cover width of 17 feet (5.18m). Do not exceed the maximum tube extension, indicated by a blue line on the inner tubes (item 16).
- Fit straps by inserting the plastic slide bars into the channels. Space straps approximately every 2-3 feet (0.6m - 0.9m), starting from the middle of the reel system.
- Insert the locking bar (item 14/15) into the channel and tighten it. This prevents the tube from rotating when not in use.
- The straps are now ready to be attached to the cover.
A detailed diagram illustrates the connection of the end frame (item 9) to the tube, emphasizing the alignment of the channel with the end frame gaps. It also shows the insertion of the plastic strap insert (item 25) and the strap buckle (item 26) with strap (item 27) and strap clamp components (items 30, 31, 32).
Cover Attachment
- With the pool cover cut to size, pull it out of the water towards the reel system until the cover and reel meet.
- Begin attaching straps from the middle of the cover and work outwards. Position straps at distances no more than 3 feet (0.9m) apart. The ideal strap spacing is 2-3 feet (0.6m - 0.9m).
- The two outermost straps should be positioned 1.5 inches (40mm) in from the edge of the cover.
- Attach the long straps to the plastic bar (item 25) as shown in the diagram and fit to the cover.
- Adjust the strap length to ensure even tension and tighten the bolts (items 30/31/32) on the cover.
- Ensure the strap lengths allow the cover to be in complete contact with the water surface when deployed on the pool.
A diagram illustrates the process of attaching the cover straps. It shows the plastic bar (item 25) being used to connect the strap (item 27) to the cover, with the strap buckle (item 26) and strap clamp components (items 30, 31, 32) also depicted.
Notes and Recommendations
Note: The reel operates best when positioned as close to the pool edge as possible. This prevents the cover from rubbing on the pool coping or surround, which could damage the underside of the cover.
Both the reel and cover should be washed regularly with fresh tap water to prevent the build-up of chemical deposits.
To assist with pulling the cover on and off the pool, it is recommended to fit a Plastica D.I.Y. leading edge, available from your local supplier.
