Watlow 375 Strip Heaters
The Watlow 375 strip heater is designed for high temperatures and high watt densities, with a thickness of 0.375 inches (9.5 mm). It is constructed with a nickel-chrome element wire embedded in MgO-based insulation and enclosed in aluminized steel sheathing for excellent heat conductivity and dielectric strength.
Performance Capabilities
- Aluminized steel sheath: up to 1100°F (595°C)
- Stainless steel sheath: up to 1200°F (650°C)
- Watt densities: up to 130 W/in² (20.2 W/cm²)
- UL® approved to 240V~(ac) (File No. E52951)
- CSA approved to 600V~(ac) (File No. LR7392)
Features and Benefits
- Nickel-chrome element wire is centered for uniform heating.
- Aluminized steel sheath offers higher temperatures and corrosion resistance compared to iron-sheathed heaters.
- Optional 430 stainless steel sheath is available for applications up to 1200°F (650°C).
- Post terminals, welded to the element wire, provide strong connections.
- Rigid 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) thick design fits existing applications.
Dimensions and Availability
Available dimensions include 1½ inches (38 mm) wide, and lengths from 5% (140 mm) to 48 inches (1220 mm) long. Next day shipment is available for 106 in-stock models.
Technical Data and Calculations
Watt density is calculated using the formula: Wattage / Heated Area. The document provides formulas for calculating the heated area based on termination type (Offset, Parallel, One-on-One) and includes graphs for Maximum Allowable Watt Density (Clamped and in Air) to ensure proper application.
Termination Options
The 375 Strip Heater is available with several termination options:
- Offset Terminals: Two 10-24 threaded post terminals offset on the same end.
- Parallel Terminals: Two 10-24 threaded post terminals on one end.
- One-on-One Terminals: Two 10-24 threaded post terminals, one on each end.
- In-Line Terminals: Two 10-24 threaded post terminals in-line on the same end.
Metallic terminal boxes are available for offset terminals, acting as a safety feature to cover terminals. Conduit can be attached through ½ inch (22 mm) diameter holes.
Accessories
Ceramic Terminal Covers are available as a convenient and economic way to insulate post terminals. They are sized for standard length posts and use a 10-24 screw thread. Specify Z-4918 and quantity.
How to Order
To order stock 375 strip heaters, specify quantity, Watlow code number, and removal of mounting tabs if desired. For made-to-order units, also specify width, heater length, mounting tabs, and terminal type. Availability for stock units is next day shipment. For made-to-order units, consult your Watlow sales engineer or authorized distributor.
Note: Mounting slots are 5/16 inch (7.9 mm) x 1½ inch (12.7 mm). Tabs can be removed upon request. Watlow code numbers specify aluminized steel sheathing; for special sheath materials like stainless steel, consult your sales engineer or authorized distributor.
