Other Functions

Operation Instructions

Powering On/Off: Press and hold the Power button (⚡) for 1 second to turn the meter on or off. A short press of the Power button enables/disables auto-shutdown.

Auto Mode

Upon powering on, the meter defaults to AUTO mode. In this mode, it automatically identifies and measures AC voltage, DC voltage, resistance, and continuity. Connect the test leads to the circuit or component to be measured; the meter will display the appropriate measurement.

Manual Mode Selection (SEL Button)

Short press the SEL button to manually cycle through different measurement functions. Available functions include DC Voltage, AC Voltage, VFC (Variable Frequency Voltage - FY168/FY168S), Resistance, Continuity, Frequency (FY168/FY168S), and Duty Cycle (FY168S).

Specific Measurement Procedures:

Voltage Measurement (AC/DC)

Connect the black test lead to the COM terminal and the red test lead to the VΩmA terminal. Select the desired voltage mode (AC or DC) or use Auto mode. Connect the probes across the voltage source or in parallel with the component. The voltage reading will be displayed.

Resistance Measurement

Ensure the circuit is de-energized. Connect the test leads as for voltage measurement. Select the resistance mode (Ω). Touch the probes to the component to be measured. The resistance value will be displayed.

Continuity Test

Ensure the circuit is de-energized. Connect the test leads as for resistance measurement. Select the continuity mode (indicated by a speaker or `)))` symbol). If the resistance is below approximately 500Ω, a buzzer will sound, indicating continuity.

Capacitance Measurement

Warning: Before measuring capacitance, ensure the capacitor is fully discharged. Do not connect to AC or DC voltage. Connect the black probe to the COM terminal and the red probe to the appropriate capacitance terminal (often shared with VΩmA). Select the capacitance mode (+). Connect the probes to the capacitor terminals. The capacitance value will be displayed.

Diode Test

Connect the black probe to the COM terminal and the red probe to the VΩmA terminal. Select the diode mode (*). Connect the red probe to the anode and the black probe to the cathode of the diode. The meter will display the forward voltage drop. If the diode is open or reversed, 'OL' will be displayed.

Frequency Measurement (FY168/FY168S)

Connect the test leads as for voltage measurement. Select the frequency mode (Hz/kHz). Connect the probes to the signal source. The frequency will be displayed.

Temperature Measurement (FY168/FY168S)

Connect the K-type thermocouple to the appropriate input terminals (often shared with VΩmA, observing polarity). Select the temperature mode (°C/°F). The meter will display the measured temperature.

V-Alert (Non-Contact Voltage Sensing)

Short press the V~Alert button to activate this mode. Bring the V-Alert sensor area near a conductor. The meter indicates the presence and approximate strength of AC voltage through:

Short press the V~Alert button again to switch between low and high sensitivity modes, or to exit the mode.

Live Wire Check

This function is typically integrated with V-Alert. When a live wire signal is strongly detected, the buzzer sounds, and the red backlight flashes.

Flashlight

Short press the Flashlight button (often shared with Temperature) to turn the LED flashlight on or off.

Current Measurement (FY168/FY168S)

Note: Current measurement requires inserting the red probe into the dedicated current terminal (mA). The meter will automatically switch to current mode.

Connect the black probe to the COM terminal and the red probe to the mA terminal. Select the appropriate current mode (AC or DC). Connect the meter in series with the circuit where current is to be measured.

Maintenance

Warning: To avoid electric shock, remove test leads from any circuit before opening the battery cover.

General Maintenance

Battery Charging

When the ? symbol appears on the display, the internal battery needs charging.

  1. Remove the test leads from the target circuit.
  2. Loosen the battery door fastener and remove the door from the case bottom.
  3. Remove the battery cover.
  4. Use the provided USB cable to charge the internal battery. The red indicator light will illuminate during charging and turn green when fully charged.
  5. The meter cannot be turned on or used while charging.
