We strongly recommend using a licensed plumber to install it. Install the system in a sheltered environment. Avoid exposure to hot and cold extremes, and particularly freezing weather. System Operating Conditions Recommended Water Pressure 20-80 PSI Recommended Water Temperature 40-100 F (4-37 C) Required Tools Safety Glasses Hacksaw Towels Crescent Wrench Teflon Tape Required Parts (Not Included) Two Shut Off Valves Two Hex Nipples or Pipe Nipples Two Pipe Hangers Two Pressure Gauges Installation Installation 1 Before beginning, turn off your water supply to your house and open all plumbing fixtures in the house to release pressure. 2 Turn off the gas or electricity to your water heater. 3 Your Clearsource system should be placed on the main water supply line at any point past the main shutoff valve, but before the line splits to the water heater, and before any lines branch off. Main Water In Existing Shutoff Valve Your Clearsource System Goes Here Water Heater Installation 4 Measure, cut, and remove the section of water line where your Clearsource system will be installed. Note: When determining the length of pipe to cut, account for filter width, shut off valves, union fittings, nipple fittings, pressure gauges (if used) and bypass valve (if used). 5 Allow the cut line to drain. Smooth the newly cut ends to avoid jagged points or edges. 6 Place a shutoff valve on both sides of your system for use during filter replacement or other servicing. We also recommend placing pressure gauges on each side of the filter to allow for monitoring of filter life. Add Shutoff Valve Add Shutoff Valve Main Water In Add Pressure Guage Add Pressure Guage Installation 7 To make installation easier by reducing weight, remove the canisters using the supplied canister wrench. Mount the chassis to a wall stud using the appropriate heavy duty fasteners. Make sure the chassis is level. You may need to adjust pipe length or distance. Mount Chassis Here Main Water In 8 Fit a pipe union onto the cut sections of the main water line then fit the pipe unions and shut off valve together. Use Teflon tape or plumbing sealant on the threaded male fittings. 9 Simultaneously fit together the shut off valve and your Clearource using a pipe nipple or hex nipple to draw them together on the INLET side of the filter. Installation 10 Fit a pipe hanger on the INLET side for additional support. 11 Simultaneously fit together the filter and the shut off valve on the OUTLET side of the filter. Fit a pipe union to the shut off valve on the OUTLET side. Check the pipe length and pipe union length to see if additional pipe length or union length is required then join the pipe union and pipe. 12 Fit a pipe hanger on the OUTLET side for additional support. 13 Turn your water back on slowly. After a few minutes, the sound of water entering the system will stop. After the unit is installed, flush the unit thoroughly. Do this at the nearest COLD water faucet. Do not use a hot water line to flush the system. (Air purge buttons are located on top of the canisters) The water will be blackish in color for the initial flush. This is residual carbon dust and is to be expected. Continue to run water until it runs clear and all air has been purged. Shut the water off and let the unit sit for a while, and then flush again. It is not unusual for the water to appear "cloudy" for a couple days following the installation. This cloudiness is caused by tiny air bubbles being purged from the filters. This is normal and will clear up. Changing Filters Changing Filters 1 Before changing your filters, turn off the water supply to your Clearsource system. 2 Press one or more of the red pressure release buttons on the top of the filter housings to relieve system pressure. Leave nearby cold-water faucet open. This will make removing the filter housing easier. 3 Unscrew each housing using the filter wrench included with your Clearsource system. Then remove and discard the old filter cartridges. 4 Remove the filter packaging and insert the filter cartridges into the housings, making sure they slip over the standpipe in the bottom of the housing. Replace the filters like-for-like. 5 Align the top of the housing into the cap and hand tighten, then use the filter wrench to snug it tight. 6 Close any open be cold-water faucets. Turn on the water supply slowly to allow the system to fill with water. Inspect carefully for leaks. If you find a leak, remove the housing and inspect the O-ring to ensure it is seated properly, then re-tighten. Changing Filters 7 Flush the system by turning on a few cold-water faucets. Allow the water to run until the air and carbon has been purged. Water may be cloudy initially as the filters and system clear of trapped air. New activated carbon filter cartridges may contain loose carbon and air bubbles after installation. Warranty Warranty This warranty extends to the original purchaser of the system only.
