PERFORMANCE PHILOSOPHY

Cold Steel emphasizes extraordinary performance for the asking price. Key elements include blade profile, thickness, geometry, edge, steel, heat treatment, locking mechanisms for folders, and handle ergonomics. Rigorous testing ensures the demanded level of performance.

STEEL AND HEAT TREATMENT

San Mai®: Three layers of expertly laminated stainless steel. Hard carbon steel sandwiched between two layers of tough lower carbon spring steel, maximizing edge holding while withstanding impact and lateral stresses. Used on collectible high-end fixed blades.

S35VN: Exceptional American super steel. Very tough, durable, takes a fine razor-sharp edge that lasts. Incredibly fine-grained powdered steel with uniform microstructure for consistent performance. Highly corrosion resistant.

AUS 8A: Japanese steel, expertly heat treated for nearly 3 decades. Proven for working knives: tough, corrosion resistant, good edge holding, easy to re-sharpen.

AUS 10A: Equal in strength and toughness to AUS 8A, with 20% greater edge holding ability.

1090 High Carbon: Excellent for larger fixed blades. Holds a good edge, tough enough for brutal stress tests. Forgiving under shock.

8Cr13MoV: Reliable steel for working knives, similar properties to AUS 8A. Tough, corrosion-resistant, good edge holding, easy to re-sharpen.

SK-5 High Carbon: Japanese high carbon steel traditionally used for hand tools (chisels, saws). Good all-around toughness, excellent edge holding, and abrasion resistance.

1055 High Carbon: Shallow hardening steel. Sturdy, avoids brittleness common in higher carbon materials. Suited for blades requiring impact resistance, often seen in large fixed blades and swords.

4116 Stainless: Fine-grained stainless steel used in pharmaceutical industry and high-end kitchen cutlery. Balanced carbon and chromium for excellent corrosion resistance and strength. Takes a very sharp edge.

4034SS: Japanese medium-grade stainless steel. Resists corrosion due to higher chromium content. Relatively easy to sharpen, moderate wear resistance. Used for kitchen cutlery or economically priced smaller knives.

CTS® XHP: Carpenter American high carbon, high chromium powdered alloy steel. Impressive edge holding abilities. Fine, uniform grain structure offers superior performance. Used in custom kitchen cutlery and surgical tools.

3-V: Modern tool steel. Astonishingly tough and exceptionally wear resistant. Fine-grained powdered steel with uniform microstructure. Excellent impact resistance and fine edge holding performance. Suited for larger blades requiring extreme toughness.

LOCKING MECHANISMS

Tri-Ad® Lock

Originator: Andrew Demko. Patent-pending Tri-Ad® lock is known for safety and strength in Cold Steel® folders.

• The "Stop Pin": Cornerstone of strength. Redistributes load of vertical positive and negative pressures. Receives positive pressure (cutting edge) and transfers it to the handle frame and liners. Receives negative pressures (prying, digging) and transfers them to the liners, protecting the rocker mechanism.
• Self-Adjusting: Designed to self-adjust over time as parts wear. The locking bar wedges deeper into the lock channel, ensuring a safe and secure lock-up.

The blade is shouldered around the stop pin for increased resistance to wear. The stop pin buffers and redistributes force pressure from the blade. The full surface of the lock and blade tang mate flush. The slightly angled lock tends to force the lock inwards under pressure.

Designed by Andrew Demko. Inspired by Japanese Kabutowari. Features a thick spine, slender blade, needle-sharp piercing point, and a long flat cutting edge. Made from premium American CPM S35VN steel. Line-grain satin polished with a deep fuller. Handle is layered, 3D CNC Machined dual-tone G-10, thin and flat for comfortable carry. Equipped with the Tri-Ad® locking mechanism.

Ti-Lite® Series

Evokes the sleek speed and rebellious lines of classic 1950's switchblades. Designed by Phil Boguszewski. Equipped with stainless steel leaf spring locks (tested to hold upwards of 145 lbs). Features a small, unobtrusive steel pocket clip. Can be opened rapidly by thumb studs or by snagging a quillon on the edge of your pocket.

Standard Ti-Lite®

Available with 4" or 6" blade configurations. Features a sharp and strong S35VN bead-blasted blade and a CNC milled 7075 Aluminum handle finished with an EDP coating.

G-10 Ti-Lite®

Available with 4" or 6" blade configurations. Features an S35VN steel blade with a black DLC coating. The handle is painstakingly 3D CNC machined and milled for an incredibly comfortable grip. Offers an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio.

Zy-Ex™ Ti-Lite®

Available with 4" or 6" blade configurations. Mimics expensive counterparts using 43% glass-filled Zy-Ex™ for the handle and Japanese AUS 8A for the blade. Extraordinarily lightweight, strong, sharp, and good looking.

Kris Ti-Lite®

New Kris styled blades available with 4" or 6" plain edged blades, and a 6" serrated version. Handles are made of Griv-Ex™ in a flat dark earth color.

Counter Point Series

High-end boot knife knowledge applied to a folding knife. Available in three blade sizes: 3", 4", and 6". Stiletto-inspired spear point blades with a pronounced false edge and satin finish. Highly corrosion and stain resistant, takes a sharp and durable edge. Handle made from Griv-Ex™ reinforced with heat-treated aluminum liners. Equipped with the Tri-Ad® locking mechanism.

Crawford Model 1

Collaboration with custom knife maker Wes Crawford. Resembles Wes's custom knife with a wide saber grind, strong sharp point, and plenty of belly. Made from Japanese 4034 Stainless, hollow ground to a thin razor edge. "Flipper" integrated into the tang for fast opening. Handle mimics original's profile, made from glass-reinforced nylon with traction rubber inlays and a low-profile pocket clip. Equipped with a leaf spring lock and a secondary safety mechanism.

Gunsite®

Specialized version of Counter Point 1. Half serrated blade, jimping on blade spine for extra traction. Blade etched with the logo of the Gunsite® Academy.

Ranch Boss II

Designed for ranchers and farmers. Long, sharp clip point blade, flat ground from high carbon steel. Faux sawed bone handle scales, reinforced with stainless steel bolsters. Features a stiff back spring and a stainless steel liner lock. Comes with a thick brown leather belt sheath.

Luzon Series

Collaboration with Mike Wallace, inspired by balisongs but functioning as a flipper. Politically correct alternative for those unable to own balisongs. Blades are 8Cr13MoV Stainless, hardened to 57-58 Rockwell. Sharp points with enough belly for cutting and slashing. Bamboo-inspired handles made of glass-filled nylon (GFN). Equipped with a sturdy leaf-spring lock and a secondary safety mechanism. Available in two sizes, with lanyard hole and pocket clip.

Tiger Claw

Created by Andrew Demko. Karambit-Hawkbill hybrid blade designed for cutting rope, cable, wire. Replicates Demko's original blade design in premium American alloy steel. Offers tactical performance of Karambit with utility of Hawkbill. Features Demko thumb-plate for fully ambidextrous fast draw. Slim CNC machined G-10 handle, black aluminum pommel ring, and Tri-Ad® lock.

Black Talon II

Revised version of the classic Black Talon folder. Design collaboration between Lynn C. Thompson and Andrew Demko. Features down-swept point and pronounced belly. Satin polished S35VN Steel with a re-designed tip for durability. G-10 scales for maximum retention and grip. High performance Tri-Ad® locking mechanism.

Rajah® Series

Designed by Andrew Demko. Available in two sizes. Unique blade shape with thin, flat ground edges that bite deep. Handle shares aesthetic lines with traditional Kukris, with added curves for grip and control. Equipped with the Tri-Ad® locking mechanism.

Spartan
