[CAUTION]: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, DO NOT REMOVE COVER (OR BACK). NO USER-SERVICEABLE PARTS INSIDE. REFER SERVICING TO QUALIFIED SERVICE PERSONNEL.

[WARNING] To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, the device should not be exposed to rain or moisture. Do not place liquid-filled objects on the device.

[CAUTION] To prevent electric shock, fully insert the plug. For polarized plugs, match the wide blade to the wide slot.

Introduction

You can listen to FM radio; enjoy audio from discs, Bluetooth, and other external audio devices.

Overview of the main unit

The unit features the following controls:

  1. [Power/Standby button]: Turn on or to standby.
  2. [SLEEP button]: Select a sleep timer to enter standby.
  3. [Preset buttons 1, 2, 3]: Select favorite preset station.
  4. [Volume +/- buttons]: Decrease/Increase volume.
  5. [Disc tray]: Disc compartment.
  6. [FM button]: Enter FM mode.
  7. [USB/AUX IN button]: Switch between USB/AUX IN mode.
  8. [MENU (MODE) button]: Access source menu setting.
  9. Display screen: Display play information.
  10. [CD/BT button]: Switch between CD/BT mode.
  11. [Play/Pause button ⏸️]: Start and pause play.
  12. [OK button]: Confirm selection/Program tracks/Store radio stations.
  13. [Headphone jack ?]: Connect with external headphone device.
  14. [USB port]: Connect with USB storage device.
  15. [AUDIO IN jack]: Connect with external audio device.
  16. [Skip/Navigate buttons ⏪⏩]: Skip previous/next album/navigate preset station.
  17. [Stop button ⏹️]: Stop play.
  18. [Tune +/- buttons]: Tune to FM radio station, fine-tune frequency. Skip next/previous track.
  19. [AC IN socket]: Insert power cable plug.
  20. [ANTENNA]: FM antenna.

3 Get started

[CAUTION] Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than specified may result in hazardous radiation exposure or unsafe operation. Always follow the instructions in this chapter sequentially.

Connect power

The unit can be powered by AC or batteries.

Option 1: AC power

[WARNING] Ensure power supply voltage matches unit's rating. [WARNING] To disconnect AC power, pull the plug, not the cord.

Connect AC power cord to wall socket.

[NOTE] Turn unit off after use to save energy.

Option 2: Battery power

[CAUTION] Batteries contain chemicals; dispose of properly.

  1. Open battery compartment.
  2. Insert 6 batteries (1.5V R14/UM2/CELL) with correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Close compartment.

[NOTE] Batteries are not supplied.

Turn on/Standby

Press the [Standby button] to turn on/off.

Switch to standby mode

Product switches to standby automatically after 15 minutes of no audio. Press [Standby button] to wake up.

App download

Scan QR codes or search "Philips Entertainment" in App Store/Google Play.

4 Play from CD

Play a CD

[NOTE] Cannot play CDs with copyright protection technologies.

Supported media: Commercial audio CDs, CD-R, CD-RW, CD-MP3 discs.

  1. Switch the source selector to CD. "CD" displays on the screen.
  2. Open the CD compartment.
  3. Insert a CD with the printed side facing up and close the CD lid gently. Playback starts automatically.

Controls: Use [Skip button ⏪] to select track, [Play/Pause button ⏸️] to pause/resume, and [Stop button ⏹️] to stop.

Use CD menu

  1. In CD mode, press [MENU (MODE)] to enter the menu setting.
  2. Press [Skip ⏩] or [Tune ⏪] to select and enter corresponding menu options.

Menu options:

Program tracks

You can program a maximum of 20 tracks on a CD or 99 tracks on an MP3 disc.

  1. Press [Stop button ⏹️] to stop playback.
  2. Press [PROG] to activate program mode.
  3. Press [Skip ⏩] or [Tune ⏪] to select a track number, then press [OK] to confirm.
  4. Repeat step 3 to program more tracks.
  5. Press [Play/Pause button ⏸️] to play programmed tracks. "PROG" is displayed during playback.

To erase the program, press [Stop button ⏹️] twice.

5 Listen to the radio

You can listen to FM radio with this product.

[NOTE] Antenna placement: Position the antenna as far as possible from TV or other radiation sources. Fully extend and adjust the antenna for optimal reception.

Listen to FM radio

Tune to an FM radio station

  1. Press [FM button] to select FM source.
  2. Press and hold [Skip ⏩] for three seconds. The radio tunes to a station with strong reception automatically.
  3. Repeat step 2 to tune to more stations.

To tune to a weak station: Press [Skip ⏪⏩] repeatedly until you find optimal reception.

Store FM radio stations automatically

[NOTE] You can store a maximum of 30 FM radio stations.

  1. Press [FM button] to select FM source.
  2. Press and hold [PROG/PRESET] for three seconds.

All available radio stations are stored automatically. The first stored station is broadcast when 30 preset stations are stored.

Store FM radio stations manually

  1. Tune to an FM radio station.
  2. Press [PROG/PRESET] to activate program mode. "[P01]" is displayed.
  3. Press [Skip ⏩] or [Tune ⏪] to allocate a number (1-30) to this radio station, then press [OK] to confirm.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 to program more stations.

[NOTE] To overwrite a programmed station, store another in its place.

Select a preset FM radio station

In FM mode, press [Skip ⏩] or [Tune ⏪] to select a preset number.

You may toggle stereo and mono sound in the menu while listening to FM radio.

Use FM menu

  1. In FM mode, press [MENU (MODE)] to enter the menu setting.
  2. Press [Skip ⏩] or [Tune ⏪] to select and enter corresponding menu options.

Menu options:

Display RDS information

RDS (Radio Data System) provides additional information such as station name, program type, etc.

  1. Tune to an FM radio station.
  2. Toggle the [INFO] menu to display various RDS information (if available).

Presetting stations to favorite radio stations

You can preset up to three favorite stations to the FAVORITE RADIO STATIONS (1-3) buttons. Assign one FM program for each button.

  1. Press [FM button] repeatedly to turn on the radio function and select the band "FM".
  2. Tune to the station you want to preset.
  3. Press and hold button [1], [2], or [3] until "FAVRT 1/2/3" shows on the screen.

To change the preset station

Repeat steps 1-3. The preset station on the button will be replaced by the new one.

[NOTE] To prevent the preset from being changed by mistake, do not hold down the button. If you do, the preset will be replaced by the currently tuned station.

6 Play from Bluetooth

Play from classic bluetooth

[NOTE] Compatibility with all Bluetooth devices is not guaranteed. Obstacles between the unit and device can reduce operational range. Effective range is approximately 10 meters (30 feet). The unit can memorize up to 8 previously connected Bluetooth devices.

  1. Press [CD/BT button] on the main unit to select the Bluetooth source. "[NO BT]" (Bluetooth) is displayed.
  2. On your device (supporting A2DP), enable Bluetooth and search for Bluetooth devices that can be paired (refer to the device's user manual). Select 'Philips TAZ5000' on your Bluetooth-enabled device.
  3. After successful pairing and connection, "[BT]" is displayed and you will hear a prompt sound from the unit.
  4. Play audio from the connected device. Audio streams from your Bluetooth-enabled device to this product.

To disconnect the Bluetooth-enabled device

Use BT menu

  1. In BT mode, press [MENU (MODE)] to enter the menu setting.
  2. Press [Skip ⏩] or [Tune ⏪] to select and enter corresponding menu options.

Play from Auracast

[NOTE] Auracast is coming soon; the latest firmware of the device needs to be installed to use this feature.

Download and install the Philips Entertainment app. Follow the app's instructions for a software upgrade.

You can play music on this CD Soundmachine from multiple Auracast-compatible transmitting devices around your house.

  1. Short press the "CD/BT" button in BT mode to switch to Auracast source. "[AURACAST RCV]" is displayed.
  2. The unit will automatically search for nearby Auracast broadcasts and find free broadcast channels.
  3. Play your favorite music from the Auracast-enabled mobile device or dongle to the unit.

To quit Auracast

Change to other sources and leave Auracast. Deactivate Auracast broadcast on your mobile device or dongle.

Scan Auracast broadcast channel

Press and hold [PROG/PRESET] for more than 3 seconds. The unit scans all Auracast broadcasts automatically. After scanning, the first available Auracast channel is broadcast.

Press [Skip ⏪⏩] to select an Auracast broadcast channel.

7 Play from USB

[NOTE] Make sure the USB device contains playable audio content. Supports FAT16/FAT32 file format. Supports up to 128GB.

  1. Press [USB/AUX IN button] repeatedly to select the USB mode.
  2. Insert a USB device into the socket.
  3. Play starts automatically. If not, press [Play/Pause button ⏸️].

Use USB menu

  1. In USB mode, press [MENU (MODE)] to enter the menu setting.
  2. Press [Skip ⏩] or [Tune ⏪] to select and enter corresponding menu options.

8 Listen to an external device

You can listen to an external device through this unit with an audio cable.

  1. Press [USB/AUX IN button] repeatedly to select AUDIO IN source.
  2. Connect an audio cable (3.5mm, not supplied) to the AUDIO-IN socket on the product.
  3. Start to play the device.

[NOTE] The AUDIO-IN socket is not for headphones.

  1. In AUDIO IN mode, press [MENU (MODE)] to enter the menu setting.
  2. Press [Skip ⏩] or [Tune ⏪] to select and enter corresponding menu options.

9 Connect with headphone

To listen through headphones, connect headphones to the [headphones jack ?].

Cannot display some files in USB device

Poor radio reception

Music playback is unavailable on this unit even after successful Bluetooth connection.

The audio quality is poor after connection with a Bluetooth-enabled device.

Bluetooth cannot be connected with this unit.

The paired mobile device connects and disconnects constantly.
