A high pressure Steam Generator Iron, with a constant temperature and high pressure of steam, making ironing effortless and quicker. There are two temperature heat settings, with the options to dry iron, continuous and vertical steam and the option of a quick steam burst. The steam pressure generates steam quickly to remove creases, giving a perfectly pressed finish. It has a non-stick soleplate, with tiny holes to help steam penetrate the fabric. The water tank is removable for easy filling and has a water refill indicator. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be done by children unless they are older than 8 and supervised. · Make sure your electricity supply matches the voltage shown on the appliance. · Ensure all packaging materials and any promotional labels or stickers are removed from the appliance before the first use. · Always inspect the appliance before use for noticeable signs of damage. Do not use if damaged or has been dropped. To disconnect, turn the socket to `OFF' and remove the plug from the mains socket. · Do not use any accessories or attachments with this appliance other than those recommended by Lakeland. · To protect against fire, electric shock or personal injury, do not immerse cord, plug or lid in water or other liquids. · Do not leave the lead hanging over the edge of an ironing board, kitchen table or worktop, where it may be pulled by children, or tripped over. Avoid contact between the lead and hot surfaces. · For indoor use only and not in bathrooms. · For domestic use only. · This appliance should be used for ironing fabric as described within the instructions for use that accompany it. 6 · Always ensure that your hands are dry before removing the plug from the mains socket. Never pull the plug out of the mains socket by its lead. · To avoid injury or possible fire, do not cover the appliance when in use. · Not recommended to be used with a plug-in timer switch. · An earthed extension cable may be used with care. The electrical rating of the cable should be at least as great as the appliance. Do not allow the cable to hang over the edge of the worktop or touch any hot surfaces. · WARNING: A cut off plug inserted into a 13 amp socket is a serious safety (shock) hazard. Ensure the cut off plug is disposed of safely. · CAUTION: The plastic bags used to wrap this appliance or the packaging may be dangerous. To avoid risk of suffocation, keep these bags out of reach of babies and children. These bags are not toys. · DO NOT leave the iron unattended when in use. · Unplug the iron before filling or emptying the water tank, before cleaning and maintenance and immediately after use. · Only use water in the water tank. DO NOT add perfume, vinegar, chemically de-scaled water or any other substances into the water tank. WARNING HOT SURFACES · Do not touch the surfaces marked with this symbol and just after use. , they will be very hot during · Hot surfaces can burn and hot steam can scald, possible injury could occur. · Allow the appliance to cool completely before touching, handling, moving or storing. 7 USING YOUR STEAM GENERATOR IRON FOR THE FIRST TIME · Unpack the iron, remove all the packaging materials, check that nothing is on the soleplate. · Unwind the power cord and steam supply hose, place the Steam Generator Iron base unit on a dry, flat level surface. · Place the iron in the correct position on the thermal insulation stand. · Fill the water tank with tap water, as described below in `Filling the Water Tank'. · Plug in and switch on at the socket. · Press the ON/OFF button on the control panel and it will illuminate red and there will be an audible beep, the appliance is powered on. If you wish to turn off the appliance press and hold the ON/OFF button for 2 seconds and the iron will power off. · Turn the temperature dial up on the iron to the MAX temperature setting, when the iron is up to temperature and the `eco' light on the control panel has stopped flashing green and is permanently on. The heating indicator light will illuminate on the iron itself, to show that there is power to it. When the iron has reached temperature the heating indictor light will go out. · The soleplate has reached temperature. · When you switch on the iron for the first time you may notice a slight burning smell, this is normal for a new appliance and will stop after a few uses. · Some residue may remain inside the iron from manufacturing, so iron an old cotton cloth or tea towel for first use, DO NOT use the iron on your laundry. Press the steam trigger to run water through the iron. · When you activate the steam function, you may hear a pumping sound, this is normal, water is being pumped into the steam generator. · During the heating process from out of the soleplate, there may be some steam coming out automatically, this phenomenon will continue for about 3 seconds and is normal. · There will be little condensation water in the steam supply hose after first use, after the second use, the condensation water will be sprayed out together with the steam at the beginning of steam being released. This phenomenon will continue for several seconds and is normal. 8 CORRECT PLACEMENT OF STEAM GENERATOR IRON ON THE BASE UNIT When the iron is put on the thermal insulation stand, it must be placed on it correctly. Incorrect position Correct position FILLING THE WATER TANK · For best results, always make sure there is plenty of water in the tank when ironing, but do not fill the tank beyond the `MAX' level. · Only use water in the water tank. DO NOT add perfume, vinegar, chemically descaled water or any other substances into the water tank. · Always make sure the iron is switched off and unplugged from the socket. · Holding the water tank handle, lift the water tank lock upwards to pull out the water tank, removing from the base unit. · Fill water tank with tap water through the filling aperture, until the `MAX' mark is reached. · Never fill the water tank level beyond the `MAX' mark. · After filling replace the water tank into the base unit. WATER REFILL INDICATOR · If the water in the water tank is lower than the `MIN' level mark, the water refill indicator will illuminate red and there will be two audible beeps. · The appliance will stop working, you need to add water into the tank. · Remove the water tank and refill it with water through the filling aperture, make sure that the water level is between the `MIN' and `MAX' level mark. · Replace the water tank into the base unit, the water refill indicator will turn off and the appliance will continue to work normally. 9 INCREASING AND DECREASING THE HEAT SETTINGS · Turn the temperature dial to set ironing temperature based on the garment which needs to be ironed. · The Steam Generator Iron has two heat settings: 1) MAX setting with a temperature range from 175°C to 225°C 2) Intelligent temperature setting with a temperature range from 115°C to 175°C · To increase the heat setting, turn the temperature dial clockwise till the desired setting lines up with the heating indicator light. · To decrease the heat setting, turn the temperature dial anti-clockwise till the desired setting lines up with the heating indicator light. MAX setting (175°C<T<225°C) Intelligent temperature setting (115°C<T<175°C) HEATING INDICATOR LIGHT · When the iron is heating up, the temperature indicator will illuminate blue. · Once the iron has reached the selected temperature, it will go out. · The heating indicator light will be cycled on and off as the iron maintains the selected temperature during heating. 10 ANTI-CALC SYSTEM · There is a special resin filter inside the water tank, which softens the water and prevents limescale build-up in the steamer panel. The resin filter is permanent and does not need replacing. · PLEASE NOTE: Use tap water only. Distilled and demineralized water makes the anti-calc system ineffective by altering its physicochemical characteristics. · DO NOT add perfume, vinegar, chemically descaled water or any other substances into the water tank. Failure to comply with the above-mentioned regulations leads to the loss of guarantee. ANTI-DRIP SYSTEM · The anti-drip system automatically stops water escaping from the soleplate when the iron is too cold. · When ironing fabrics at low temperatures, the soleplate may cool down to the point where no more steam comes out, which could lead to drops of boiling water that can leave marks or stains. In these cases, the anti-drip system automatically activates to prevent vaporisation, so that you can iron the most delicate fabrics without risk of spoiling or staining them. · During use, it may make a clicking sound, especially during heat-up or while cooling down. This is normal and indicates that the system is working correctly. 11 INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE Starting ironing garments requiring a low temperature first. Reducing the waiting time, the iron takes less time to heat up than to cool down. It will eliminate the risk of scorching the fabric. * + ^ " Inteligent Temperature Fabrics with this symbol are ironable for Synthetics, Silk and Wool. MAX Temperature Fabrics with this symbol are ironable for Cotton and Linen. Fabrics with this symbol are not ironable, for example, Polypropylene, Elastaine and Acrylic Fabric. · Fill the iron with tap water, as described in `Filling the Water Tank'. · Place the Steam Generator Iron base unit on a dry, flat level surface, with the iron sat in the correct position of the thermal insulation stand. · Plug in and switch on at the socket. · Press the ON/OFF button on the control panel and it will illuminate red and there will be an audible beep, the appliance is powered on. · When the heating indicator light goes out, the soleplate has reached temperature. · The steam generator is set to the default of the `eco' steam rate, the `eco' setting light will be illuminated green and flashing, when the steam generator is up to heat, it will be continuously on. WARNING: This appliance generates high temperature steam. To avoid the risk of severe burns, never touch the soleplate during use. Always hold the iron by its handle. DRY IRONING · Turn the temperature dial to select your desired temperature setting, which is depended on the fabric of garment. · Delicate synthetic fabrics should be ironed without steam. · Lift the iron and iron normally, DO NOT press the steam trigger on the handle. WARNING: Never touch hot soleplate at any time before cooling down! 12 STEAM IRONING · The default setting is the `eco' steam rate when the appliance is turned on. · You can change the desired steam rate for each garment according to your requirements. There are two modes `MAX' and `eco' steam rates available. · To ensure good steam output, always make sure the water tank is at least a quarter full. · When the indicator of selected steam rate is fully illuminated, it indicates that the iron is ready for ironing garment with steam. The `MAX' steam rate illuminates blue and the `eco' steam rate illuminated green. · Remove the iron from the base unit, press the steam trigger with a little force, steam will be generated and sprayed from the soleplate continuously, then you can iron the garment with steam. CAUTIONS: · DO NOT touch hot soleplate at any time before cooling down! · Never direct the steam at people. · DO NOT activate the steam function when the iron is placed on the unit base to avoid being scalded by steam. · After ironing, switch off the appliance, turn off at the wall socket and unplug, the soleplate is still hot, never touch it with your hand, place it on the thermal insulation stand until it cools down completely. STEAM TRIGGER · When the appliance is heated to the selected temperature and the indicator of selected steam rate light is solid, the steam trigger is ready to use. · For steam ironing, remove the iron from the base unit, press the steam trigger with a little force, steam will be generated and sprayed from the soleplate continuously, then you can iron the garment with steam. · For drying ironing, lift the iron and iron normally, DO NOT press the steam trigger on the handle. STEAM TOGGLE BUTTON · The appliance can switch between `MAX' and `eco' steam rates by pressing the steam toggle button. · The default setting is the `eco' steam rate when the appliance is turned on. · Press steam toggle button to select your desired steam rate. 13 STEAM SHOT · If you require an extra burst of steam to help smooth out stubborn creases and wrinkles, great for denim and linen. · Lift the iron slightly above the fabric surface and press the steam shot button firmly. You may need to press the trigger a few times at first, to pump water through the system. · Select the `MAX' steam rate by the steam toggle button, then quickly press the steam trigger twice within 1 second to produce shot of steam. · The shot of steam will keep releasing for approximately 2 seconds, a shot of steam will penetrate deep into the fibres. · During this process the `MAX' steam rate indicator will be fully illuminated blue. Repeat the above operation if need to produce shot of steam again. VERTICAL STEAM SHOT · You can use the steam shot button when the iron is vertical. It is great for taking creases out of curtains and garments on hangers. Follow the instructions in `Steam Shot', holding the iron upright 15 to 30cm away from the fabric to avoid scorching. WARNING: Ensure the iron is pointed away from you and other people when using the steam shot button. Never iron clothes whilst they are being worn. Keep your fingers at a safe distance from the tip of the soleplate to avoid burning. You do not get a continuous flow of steam on this setting, it is a powerful burst of very hot steam which can burn. AUTO SHUT-OFF · The iron will automatically switch off when there has been no operation and it is still switched on at the plug. This is a safety feature. · The iron will switch off automatically after 10 minutes. · To restart the appliance press the ON/OFF button. SWITCHING OFF · When you have finished ironing, place the iron on the thermal insulation stand, turn the appliance off with the ON/OFF button, then turn off at the socket and unplug. Leave the iron to cool down completely. · After every use, empty the water tank. · Always store the iron in a safe, dry place, with the tank empty and soleplate cooled. 14 HINTS AND TIPS · We recommend using the lowest temperatures with fabrics that have unusual finishes e.g. sequins, embroidery, flush, etc. · Never iron over zips or rivets in the fabris, this will damage the soleplate. · Always check first whether a label with ironing instructions is attached to the article. Follow these ironing instructions in any case. If no ironing-instruction label is provided, but you know the fabric material, please refer to the table on page 8. · If the fabric is mixed e.g. 40% cotton and 60% synthetics, set the heat setting to the temperature of the fibre requiring the lower temperature. · Divide the clothes to be ironed according to their temperatures. Woolen fabrics and cotton fabrics etc. should be ironed separately. An iron heats up quicker than cooling down, therefore, you should start ironing the articles requiring the lowest temperature such as those made from a synthetic material. Pure wool fabrics (100% wool) may be ironed with the iron set at a steam position. Preferably set steam knob to the maximum position and use a dry cloth as a mat. · If you don't know the composition of the fabric, determine the suitable temperature by testing on a hidden corner of the garment. Start with a low temperature and increase it gradually until it reaches the ideal temperature. · Never iron areas with traces of perspiration or other marks, the heat of the plate fixes the stains on the fabric, making them irremovable. · To avoid marking silk, woolen or synthetic garments shiny, iron them inside out. · To avoid marking velvet garments shiny, iron in one direction, following the fibre and do not press down on the iron. · The heavier a washing machine is loaded, the more garments come out creased. · This also happens when the spin-drying revolutions are very high. · Many fabrics are easier to iron if they are not completely dry i.e. silk should always be ironed damp. 15 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Question: Answer: Why is there a clicking sound? The anti-drip system automatically stops water escaping from the soleplate when the iron is too cold. During use, it may make a clicking sound, especially during heat-up or while cooling down. This is normal and indicates that the system is working correctly. Question: Answer: Why is the soleplate cold even though my iron is plugged in? Check the iron is plugged in and switched on at the socket. There could be a problem with the socket, if so, try a different socket. Make sure you have pressed the ON/OFF button. If you are using the steam shot for the first time, press the button a few times to pump water through the iron until you get a powerful steam shot. Question: Answer: Why is the iron damaging the fabric? Check the care label of the garment to see whether the fabric is suitable for ironing. This iron cannot be used on un-ironable fabrics. If you are unsure, test the iron on the inside of the hem of the garment. Question: Answer: Why are flakes and impurities coming out of the soleplate? Hard water can cause minerals and limescale to build up inside the steam chamber. Follow the instructions in the `Care and Cleaning' section. 16 CARE AND CLEANING 1. Switch off and unplug the iron, and let it cool completely before cleaning. 2. Clean thoroughly before using for the first time and after every use. 3. Check the parts for wear or damage after every few uses. 4. Certain fabric finishes may leave a residue on the soleplate, which can affect the performance and lead to `drag' when ironing. This coating may be removed by wiping the soleplate with a textured cloth. Dry with a soft cloth. 5. DO NOT use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads or wire wool to clean the soleplate. 6. To clean the steam holes, take a damp cloth and wipe away any build-up around the holes. 7. Take care not to damage or scratch the soleplate by allowing it to come into contact with metal objects such as zips. 8. Never use sharp or rough objects to remove the deposits on the soleplate. 9. The outside of the iron can be wiped with a clean damp cloth, dry thoroughly before storing. 10. Never immerse the iron in water or any other liquid. 11. Never put vinegar or other descaling agents into the water tank. 12. Empty the water tank and water reservoir. 13. Remove the water tank and empty over the sink, upend the base unit and put it on a flat surface. 14. Then turn the knob anticlockwise at the bottom of base unit to remove it, clean by running under the tap. WARNING: To avoid a risk of scalding, make sure the appliance has cooled down completely before removing the knob. 15. When the appliance is not used for a long time, empty the water in the reservoir, turnthe temperature dial to the minimum setting and store the steam supply hose and power cord at the cord clips, then put the appliance at a place out of the reach of children. 17 DESCALING INDICATOR · If the appliance has cumulatively released steam for 100 minutes, the descaling indicator will illuminate, it means that the steam generator should be descaled. · Perform descaling by following the operation in steps 13 to 15 on previous page. · After you have finished cleaning, tighten the knob (A) by turning clockwise and turn the appliance back over and place the iron on top. · Restart the appliance, then press the reset button, the Steam Generator Iron can work normally again. WARNING: The iron soleplate will still be very hot. Hot surfaces and steam can burn and possible injury could occur. ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED The appliance is fitted with a fused three-pin plug to BS1363 which is suitable for use in all homes fitted with sockets to current specifications. CHANGING THE 13 AMP FUSE Use a 13 amp BS1362 fuse. Only BSI or ASTA approved fuses should be used. If you are unsure which plug or fuse to use, always refer to a qualified electrician. Note: After replacing or changing a fuse on a moulded plug which has a fuse cover, the cover must be refitted to the plug; the appliance must not be used without a fuse cover. If lost, replacement fuse covers can be obtained from an electrical shop.
