Safety Information
Electrical Safety
Foster Refrigerator recommends connecting the equipment via a Residual Current Device (RCD), such as an RCCB type socket or an RCBO supplied circuit. If a fuse needs replacement, use one with the value specified on the cabinet's serial label.
General Safety
- Do not store explosive substances, such as aerosol cans with flammable propellants, in this appliance.
- Keep all ventilation openings in the appliance or built-in unit clear of obstructions.
- Do not use electrical appliances inside the storage compartment.
- The appliance is airtight when the door is closed. Under no circumstances should any living body be stored or 'locked in' the appliance.
- Moving the appliance requires competent personnel. Ensure two or more people guide and support it, and avoid moving over uneven surfaces.
- The emitted sound level is 70db(A).
- For stability, locate the appliance on a flat, level surface and lock the castors.
- If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid hazards.
- Avoid prolonged contact with cold surfaces with unprotected body parts. Correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be used at all times.
- When moving the appliance, wear appropriate gloves and conduct a relevant risk assessment.
Disposal Requirements
Improper disposal can release environmentally harmful components. All old refrigerators must be disposed of by appropriately registered and licensed waste contractors, in accordance with national laws and regulations.
Start-Up and Test Sequence
After unpacking, clean the cabinet and allow it to stand for 2 hours before turning it on (refer to cleaning directions within this manual). Ensure the cabinet is placed away from hot or cold air sources, as this affects performance. Maintain a minimum clearance of 150mm above the cabinet for ventilation. Connect the unit to a suitable mains power outlet and turn on the supply. Do not plug or unplug the unit with wet hands.
Cabinets and counters are supplied ready for operation.
Upon connecting to the mains, the display will briefly show a dash in the centre, then display OFF.
Activate the Controller
To activate the controller:
- Press and hold the
[set]button for 5 seconds, then release. This initiates a 'Test Sequence'.
Visual Description: The controller display shows OFF. Icons visible include [set], [arrow left], [arrow right], [power icon], [lock icon]. After pressing and holding [set] for 3 seconds, the display changes to -2.0.
Cancel Test Sequence
To cancel the test sequence:
- Press and release the
[set]button.
Note: If the test is not cancelled, it will continue. Upon completion, the controller will show End, wait 1 minute, and then resume normal operation.
Visual Description: The controller display shows ESE. After pressing and releasing [set], the display changes to -2.0.
User Adjustments
To check the storage temperature set point:
- Press and release the
[set]button for 1/2 second.
Visual Description: The controller display shows -2.0.
Standby Mode
The display shows OFF when the unit is not operating but has mains power applied. This mode is suitable for interval cleaning or short periods of inactivity. For extended inactivity, disconnect the mains supply.
Visual Description: The controller display shows OFF. An arrow indicates a transition to a display showing -2.0.
Defrost
Automatic Defrost
When set to freezer temperature, the drawer has a fully automatic defrost system to keep the evaporator coil clear of ice.
Manual Defrost
If required for fridge or freezer temperatures, a manual defrost can be initiated on each drawer display.
Visual Description: The controller display shows -2.0. An arrow indicates a manual defrost initiation, taking 2 seconds.
Alarms and Warnings
During normal operation, the displays show either the temperature or one of the following indicators:
| Indicator | Description |
|---|---|
H |
Counter High Temperature Alarm |
L |
Counter Low Temperature Alarm |
F1 |
Air Temperature Probe T1 Failure |
E2 |
Evaporator Temperature Probe T2 Failure (Freezer Cabinets Only) |
Load/Product Distribution and Airflow
Product should be evenly distributed throughout the cabinet or counter. For both cabinets and counters, place no more than 40kg on each shelf, basket, or drawer. Arrange products to ensure air circulation around and through them.
Shelf Supports
The unit features slotted, removable shelf supports for flexible positioning. Ensure trayslides/clips are fitted parallel and level. When loading products, ensure they do not overflow the rear and sides, as this obstructs airflow.
Locking
The appliance is equipped with a locking mechanism. Ensure castors are locked for stability when in use.
Visual Description: Two images show the locking mechanism on cabinet doors, with a lock icon indicating the locked state.
Keypad Security Settings
The keypad lock prevents unintended or potentially dangerous operations, especially in public areas, and can also stop unauthorized temperature adjustments. To activate the lock, press [set] briefly, then use [arrow left] or [arrow right] to select Lock. While holding [set], use [arrow left] or [arrow right] to change from '4E5' to '70'. Leave for 10 seconds or briefly press [set] to resume normal operation.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Important: Before cleaning, put the unit into standby and turn off the mains power supply. Do not plug or unplug with wet hands. Only turn the cabinet back on at the mains after cleaning is complete and the unit is dry. High-pressure water jets or lances are prohibited; warranty may be voided if this warning is ignored.
Suitable P.P.E (Personnel Protective Equipment) should be worn at all times.
- Remove all product and shelving (beware of cold/sharp components). Clean exterior and interior surfaces with mild liquid detergent, following product directions. Rinse with a damp cloth and clean water. Avoid wire wool, scouring pads/powders, or high alkaline cleaning agents (bleaches, acids, chlorines) as they can cause damage. Dry thoroughly before re-use.
- Clean the condenser at least monthly (located behind the unit cover). Beware of hot/sharp components. Remove the unit cover by undoing the securing screw(s) underneath the front. Pull the cover forward to release it from the pegs. Use a soft brush or vacuum cleaner to remove dirt/dust. For stubborn grease deposits, contact your supplier for a full service (chargeable). Failure to maintain the condenser may invalidate the warranty and cause premature failure of the motor/compressor. DO NOT use a wire brush. Re-fit all panels after cleaning.
- Inspect door gaskets regularly and replace if damaged. Clean by wiping with a warm damp soapy cloth, followed by a clean damp cloth. Dry thoroughly before closing the door.
- Shelves, baskets, and supports should be removed for cleaning. Shelves are dishwasher safe; supports should be cleaned with warm soapy water, rinsed, and dried.
Before Calling Your Supplier
Please check the following:
- Is the plug connected and the mains power supply on (controller illuminated)?
- Is the unit in standby?
- Has the fuse blown?
- Is the cabinet positioned correctly (away from cold/warm air sources)?
- Is the condenser blocked or dirty?
- Are products placed correctly in the unit?
- Is defrost in progress or required?
If the malfunction reason cannot be identified, disconnect the electrical supply and contact your supplier. Quote the model and serial number (found on the silver label inside the unit, starting with 'E...') when requesting service.
