Setting up the Camera via the Reolink App
Follow these steps for the initial setup of battery-powered cameras using the Reolink App.
Power on the camera. Ensure the power switch on the camera is turned on before initial setup (this step is an exception for Argus 2 and Argus Pro). After a startup sound, you will hear a repeated ding sound or a voice prompt.
Note: The voice prompt may state, "Welcome to Reolink, please install Reolink app and scan the QR code on the camera" (in multilingual versions) or "please run Reolink app, add the camera and set it up."
Tap the ➕ in the top right corner to begin the initial setup.
Scan the QR code located on the back of the camera. If needed, tap the ? to enable the flashlight for better visibility in dark environments. If the phone does not respond, tap "Input UID/IP" and manually enter the 16-digit UID found under the QR code. Then, click "Next."
Description of App Screen: The app displays an "Add Device" interface. It shows an option to "Scan the QR code on the device" and an alternative to "Add devices in the following ways" via "Input UID/IP" or "LAN." A section explains that a product UID is a unique device identifier.
Select "Wi-Fi Not Configured." If you hear a voice prompt from the camera, tick the corresponding confirmation box and then tap "Next."
Description of App Screen: The app presents two options: "Wi-Fi Not Configured" (requiring Wi-Fi settings for new or reset devices) and "Wi-Fi Already Configured." A checkbox "I have heard the voice played by the camera" is available.
Enter the Wi-Fi password for your selected network. You can tap the ?️ to view and verify the password. Then, tap "Next."
Note: The Argus 2E model exclusively supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi frequencies. Other models support both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, with 5GHz recommended for a better network experience.
Description of App Screen: The app shows "Enter Wi-Fi Info," indicating support for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. Users select their network and enter the password.
Tap "Scan Now." Position your phone's QR code in front of the camera's lens at a distance of approximately 20 cm (8 inches) to allow the camera to scan it. Tick the confirmation box and tap "Next."
Description of App Screen: The app prompts the user to face the camera towards the QR code, maintaining a scan distance of around 20 cm (8 inches). It includes a confirmation for hearing a beep sound and a "Scan failed?" option.
Wait approximately 60 seconds for the camera to connect to the router. Once you hear the "connection to the router succeeded" prompt, tick the confirmation box and tap "Next."
Description of App Screen: The app shows "Camera is connecting to the router..." and then "Connection to the router succeeded." A confirmation checkbox "I have heard the voice prompt" is present.
Create a login password and assign a name to your camera.
Description of App Screens: Two initialization steps are shown: "First step: Create device password" where you enter and confirm a password, and "Second step: Name Your Device" where you enter a name for your camera. Both steps have a "Next" button.
Read the provided notes and tap "Finish" to complete the camera initialization.
Description of App Screen: The "Device initialization" screen shows "Initialization finished." with a checkmark icon. It advises saving the device's QR code for sharing or future access. A "Next" button is shown, followed by a "Finish" button.
Important Notes:
- Battery cameras are not designed for continuous 24/7 recording. To conserve battery, the camera activates only upon motion detection or when accessed via the app.
- The camera uses a PIR motion sensor for event detection. Proper installation of the camera and sensor placement can help reduce false alarms and save battery power.
Placement Considerations (Things to Avoid):
- Pointing at frequently moving objects ?
- Pointing at strong light sources (e.g., sun) ☀️
- Pointing at heat sources ?
- Placement near strong signal interference ⚡
- Pointing at mirrors ?
Once the initial setup is complete, select an optimal position for mounting your camera.
Install the Camera
Guides are provided for three different installation scenarios.
Mount the Camera to the Wall
Drill holes according to the mounting hole template and secure the security mount to the wall.
Note: Use the included drywall anchors if necessary.
Screw the antenna into the camera.
Note: For optimal network connection, it is recommended to install the antenna pointing upward or horizontally.
Attach the camera to the security mount and adjust its position as needed.
Mount the Camera to the Ceiling
Press the button on the security mount and unscrew the bracket to separate its two parts.
Install the bracket base onto the ceiling using screws.
Align the camera with the bracket and turn the camera unit clockwise to lock it securely in place.
Install the Camera with Loop Strap
The camera can be secured to a tree using both the security mount and the ceiling bracket. Thread the provided strap through the slots on the plate and fasten it around the tree. Subsequently, attach the camera to the plate, similar to the previous mounting methods.
Congratulations! You have successfully installed the Argus PT.
Note: For optimal installation, it is recommended to mount the camera upside down to prevent water from entering the microphone hole.
