Ring Video Doorbell
Getting Started
Download the Ring App
The Ring app guides you through setting up and managing your Ring Video Doorbell. It is available for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. Search for "Ring" in your device's app store or visit ring.com/app.
Say Hello to the Back of your Ring Doorbell
The back of your Ring Doorbell features a Setup Button, which you will be instructed to push during the in-app setup process. It also has a Charging Port where you can plug in the included USB cable to charge your Ring Doorbell when needed.
Diagram Description: The back of the Ring Video Doorbell is shown, highlighting the setup button (a small orange button) and the charging port (a USB port). Labelled components include MAC ID, Product name (Ring), Model name (Video Doorbell), FCC ID, and Power input specifications (8-24 VAC, 5Vdc 1A).
Grab your Wi-Fi password
Your Wi-Fi password is required for the in-app setup. It is recommended to write it down here for easy access:

Push the Front Button to Test your Ring Doorbell
After setup is complete, push the front button on your Ring Doorbell to see live video from your Ring in the Ring app. Smile, you're on camera!

ℹ️ If you experience issues with video quality after installation, consider moving your Wi-Fi router closer to your door or adding a Ring Chime Pro. Learn more at: ring.com/chime-pro
Select an Install Location
For optimal performance, install your Ring Doorbell four feet (48 inches) above the ground. If you are connecting to existing doorbell wiring that is higher than four feet and wish to angle your Ring for a better view, a Wedge Kit can be purchased at ring.com/accessories.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows a person walking a dog. Two cones of light emanate from a mounted doorbell: one representing the camera's field of view and a wider one representing motion detection range. A vertical measurement indicates the recommended installation height of 4 feet (48 inches).
If wiring to an existing doorbell...
Remove your Existing Doorbell
If you are connecting your Ring to existing doorbell wiring, first shut off power at the breaker. Then, remove your existing doorbell from the wall and disconnect the wires. If you notice a diode when removing your wired doorbell, you will need to install the included diode with your Ring.
Diagram Description: Hands are shown disconnecting wires from an existing doorbell. A separate image shows a diode with a wire attached.
Mark the Screw Holes
Snap the small orange level onto the mounting bracket and use the bracket to mark the four corner holes on your wall. The recommended installation height is 4 feet above the ground.
Diagram Description: Hands are shown placing a mounting bracket with an orange level attached onto a wall surface, marking screw hole locations.
Install the Anchors (optional)
For stucco, brick, or concrete walls, use the provided drill bit to drill holes and then insert the anchors. If installing on wood or siding, you may skip this step.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows a drill bit creating holes in a wall, followed by anchors being inserted into the holes, and then a screw being driven into an anchor.
Install the Mounting Bracket
Use the Phillips head side of the Ring screwdriver to screw the mounting bracket into the wall (or into the anchors, if installed). Ensure the bracket is flush with the wall.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the Ring screwdriver being used to attach the mounting bracket to the wall with screws.
ℹ️ Keep the orange screwdriver handy; you will need it to detach your Ring from the wall for charging.
Installing the Mounting Bracket (continued)
Drive the screws into your wall until they are flush with the mounting bracket, ensuring the bracket is flat against your wall. If your wall is not completely flat, be careful not to overtighten the screws, which could bend or bow the bracket.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows screws being driven through the mounting bracket into a wall, with arrows indicating the direction. A note advises caution on uneven walls.
Connect the Wires (optional)
Connect your doorbell wires to the screws on the mounting bracket. The order in which the wires connect to the screws does not matter. The wiring must connect to a transformer with a voltage of 8VAC – 24VAC and an internal doorbell or resistor. DC transformers and most intercoms are not supported.
Diagram Description: The back of the Ring Video Doorbell mounting bracket is shown with wires connected to the terminal screws.
How and When to Use the Diode
If your doorbell is digital (plays an electronic melody), attach the diode to the two screws on your bracket. Place the gray indicator on the same side as the wire that leads to your internal doorbell. If your doorbell is mechanical (makes a "ding-dong" sound), DO NOT INSTALL THE DIODE.
ℹ️ If you have a digital doorbell, connecting the diode incorrectly will not cause harm. If your doorbell does not ring, simply reverse the diode.
Diagram Description: A close-up view of the mounting bracket shows the diode attached to the screws, with wires connected. An illustration indicates the correct placement of the diode's gray indicator.
Attach your Ring Doorbell to the Bracket
Line up the holes in your Ring Doorbell with the slots on the mounting bracket. Press firmly towards the wall and then down until you feel a click. Make sure the security screws are loose before attaching.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the Ring Video Doorbell being aligned with and attached to the mounting bracket on the wall, with arrows indicating the motion. A note mentions checking the security screws.
Secure your Ring Doorbell
Use the star-shaped end of your Ring screwdriver to tighten the security screws on the bottom of your Ring Doorbell. If you wired your Ring, restore power at the breaker. Congratulations, you're done!

Need a little setup help?
Get your Wi-Fi password just right.
The most common setup issues stem from entering the wrong Wi-Fi password. Passwords are case-sensitive, so ensure accuracy.
Reboot your router.
If you are confident the password is correct but the setup is failing, try turning your Wi-Fi router off, waiting 30 seconds, and then turning it back on. Start the setup process again in the Ring app.
Start setup inside.
If setup issues persist, try moving your Ring Doorbell inside, near your Wi-Fi router, and start the setup process once more. Once setup is successful, you can install your Ring at your door.
