Stepper Output Module Type AK-XM 208C

Info for Centralized (Rack) Control

The AK-XM 208C module opens and closes stepper valves opposite to how the AK-XM 208B operates. For centralized (rack) control, ensure the AK-XM 208C has a dedicated line-up, consisting only of the Communication module and the AK-XM 208C. No other modules should be added to the AK-XM 208C.

A visual representation of the AK-XM 208C module shows its compact design. Dimensions provided are 140 mm in height, approximately 8 mm (5/16 inch) in width, 144 mm (5 11/16 inches) in depth, and 76 mm (3 inches) in height.

Environmental and Electrical Specifications

Operating ambient temperature range: -20 °C to 55 °C (-4 °F to 131 °F). Operating humidity: 0-95% RH, non-condensing. Ingress Protection rating: IP10 / VBG4. Controller supply: 5 VA. Valve supply: 7.8 VA plus valve consumption. Construction class: Class II.

The product is CE marked and cULus Listed (UL File: E357029), compliant with Class 2 or LPS in accordance with NEC. For supply connections, use 16 AWG or larger wires rated for at least 90 °C (194 °F). Only copper conductors are permitted.

Module Configuration: 4 x Stepper Valve Output, 8 x Analog Inputs (AI)

The module features 4 stepper valve outputs. The terminals labeled '+' and '-' for these outputs must not be earthed.

The module includes 8 analog inputs (AI), capable of handling a maximum of 10 V.

Separate Power Supply Requirements

A separate power supply is required for the AK-XM 208C, rated at 24 VAC/AC with a tolerance of +/- 20%. The total VA consumption depends on the number and type of valves connected. For example, with 4 valves, the consumption could be approximately 7.8 VA + (4 x 1.3 VA) = 13 VA, or 7.8 VA + (4 x 5.1 VA) = 28.2 VA. Compatible power supply units include AK-PS 075 and AK-PS 150.

Output Specifications

The output operates on 24 V d.c. with a step rate of 20-500 steps/s. The maximum RMS current per valve is 325 mA, and the total output power (Pout) is a maximum of 21 VA. It is crucial that the connection to the valve is not broken using a relay.

Valve Data

Valve typePower (P)
ETS 12.5 - ETS 4001.3 VA
KVS 15 - KVS 421.3 VA
CCMT 2 - CCMT 81.3 VA
CCM 10 - CCM 401.3 VA
CTR 201.3 VA
CCMT 16 - CCMT 425.1 VA

Wiring and Terminal Details

The module features a terminal block with terminals numbered 1 through 40. Terminal 17 is for 12 V, Terminal 18 is for 5 V, and Terminals 19, 20 are for a connection labeled 'b'. The screen on pressure transmitter cables must only be connected at the end of the module.

Indicator lights provide status information: ? Green = valve opens, ? Green = valve closes, ? Red flash = valve error / connection error.

Terminals are grouped for specific functions: 25-28 for Step 1, 29-32 for Step 2, 33-36 for Step 3, and 37-40 for Step 4.

A table maps Step/Terminal numbers to specific terminal ranges and valve types: Step 1 (Terminals 25-28) for ETS, CCM/CCMT. Step 2 (Terminals 29-32) for ETS, CCM/CCMT. Step 3 (Terminals 33-36) for ETS, CCM/CCMT. Step 4 (Terminals 37-40) for ETS, CCM/CCMT. CTR valves use White wires. KVS 15 and KVS 42-54 valves use Black, Red, and Green wires respectively for their connections.

Input Signal Mapping:

The module has 12 points for connections: Points 1-8 (Terminals 1-2 to 15-16) are Analog Inputs (AI 1 to AI 8). Points 9-12 (Terminals 25-28 to 37-40) are Stepper Valve Outputs (Step 1 to Step 4).

A diagram illustrates the connection of a 24V power supply to the module. It also shows the stepper valve output terminals '+' and '-' which must not be earthed, and an analog input (AI) with a maximum of 10V. A separate power supply diagram shows 24 VAC/AC +/- 20% input. The output section shows a 24 V d.c. connection with specifications for step rate, current, and power, emphasizing that valve connections should not be broken by a relay. Terminal labels A through H are shown for valve connections.

A diagram shows the terminal block layout from 1 to 40, with specific terminals designated for +12V, +5V, and other functions. It details the grouping of terminals for stepper valve outputs (e.g., 25-28 for Step 1) and analog inputs (e.g., 1-2 for AI 1). The diagram also includes a legend for valve open/close indicators and error indicators.
