[Diagram: Shows a wing being attached to a fuselage, with a screw labeled 'A' securing it.]
IMPORTANT: DO NOT overtighten the screw.
Low Voltage Cutoff (LVC)
If a LiPo battery is discharged below 3V per cell, it will no longer be able to hold a charge. To protect the onboard battery from over-discharge, this model features LVC, which cuts power to the motor if the battery voltage drops too low. Considering that part of the energy contained in the battery is used to power the model's control system.
When the motor RPM drops and rises quickly, it means the LVC system is warning that the battery voltage has dropped below the minimum level, so you must land as quickly and safely as possible.
Always disconnect and remove LiPo batteries from the aircraft after each flight. Before storing them, they must be half-charged, ensuring each cell does not drop below 3V. If LiPo batteries are not disconnected from the ESC, they will slowly discharge until completely depleted, causing damage.
For the first flights, set the transmitter timer or another timer to 5 minutes. On subsequent flights, increase or decrease this time based on what you observe during the model's first flights.
NOTICE: Continuing to fly after the LVC warning may damage the batteries.
Transmitter Setup
If your transmitter allows, activate the throttle cut function. Always activate throttle cut before approaching the model aircraft.
Dual Rates
For initial flights, low rates are recommended.
NOTICE: To ensure the AS3X technology functions correctly, do not set rates below 50%.
NOTICE: If high-speed oscillations occur, consult the troubleshooting guide for more information.
Expo
After initial flights, you can adjust the Expo value for better adaptation to your flying style.

Transmitter/Receiver Binding
General Binding and Failsafe Recommendations
- The included receiver has been programmed specifically for this model aircraft. If you replace the receiver, consult the receiver manual for correct setup.
- Stay away from large metallic objects during binding.
- Do not point the transmitter antenna directly at the receiver during binding.
- The red LED on the receiver begins to flash rapidly when the receiver enters binding mode. Binding is the programming procedure by which the receiver learns to recognize the globally unique identifier (GUID) of the transmitter to which it is being associated. For proper operation, you must bind to a Spektrum™ transmitter equipped with DSM2/DSMX technology. Any full-range Spektrum DSM2/DSMX transmitter can bind to a DSM2/DSMX receiver.
- Once bound, the receiver retains the binding settings for the transmitter it is bound to until the binding procedure is repeated.
- Failsafe activates if the receiver loses communication with the transmitter. Failsafe moves the throttle channel to the low throttle position. The roll and pitch channels move to stabilize the model in a descending turn.
- If you encounter problems, consult the troubleshooting guide or contact Horizon Hobby support if necessary.
Binding Procedure
- Refer to your transmitter's instructions for the binding procedure with the receiver.
- Ensure the onboard battery is disconnected from the model aircraft.
- Turn off the transmitter.
- Place the model aircraft on a level surface away from wind.
- Connect the onboard battery to the aircraft. The receiver LED begins to flash rapidly (typically after 5 seconds).
- Ensure the transmitter controls are at neutral and throttle and throttle trim are at the low position.
- Set the transmitter to binding mode.
- After 5-10 seconds, the receiver status LED becomes solid, indicating the receiver is bound to the transmitter. If the LED does not become solid, consult the Troubleshooting Guide at the back of the manual.
For subsequent flights, turn on the transmitter for 5 seconds before connecting the onboard battery.
Integrated Telemetry
This model provides telemetry between the ESC and receiver, transmitting data such as RPM/motor, voltage, motor current, throttle setting (%), ESC temperature, and BEC temperature. To view telemetry:
- The transmitter must already be bound to the receiver.
- Turn on the transmitter.
- Turn on the model aircraft.
- A progress bar appears in the upper left corner of the screen indicating telemetry signal reception.
- Scroll past the servo monitor to access the telemetry screens.
For more information on compatible transmitters, firmware updates, and using your transmitter's telemetry technology, visit www.SpektrumRC.com.
SAFE® Select Technology
The aircraft has two flight modes controlled on Channel 5: SAFE and AS3X. Switch A is the default Spektrum switch for channel 5. Position 0 is SAFE, Position 1 is AS3X only. In SAFE mode, the model automatically returns to level flight whenever the elevator and aileron controls are in the neutral position. Applying elevator or aileron causes the aircraft to bank, climb, or dive. The stick travel determines the flight attitude the aircraft assumes. Applying full command pushes the aircraft to the preset limits of bank and pitch, without exceeding those angles.
In SAFE mode, it is normal to hold the control stick deflected with moderate application of the ailerons in a turn. To fly smoothly with SAFE, avoid frequent changes in control inputs and do not attempt to correct minor deviations. Maintaining intentional control input causes the model to fly at a specific angle and perform all necessary corrections to maintain that flight attitude. When switching from SAFE mode to AS3X mode, you must first return the elevator and ailerons to the neutral position. If the elevator and aileron controls are not in the neutral position when switching to AS3X mode, the control inputs used for SAFE mode will be excessive for AS3X mode, and the model will react immediately.
Differences Between SAFE and AS3X Modes
This section is generally accurate but does not account for flight speed, battery charge level, and many other limiting factors.
Control Stick Neutral | SAFE Select | AS3X |
---|---|---|
Neutral Position | The aircraft automatically returns to level flight. | The aircraft maintains its current attitude. |
Light Control Input | The aircraft applies moderate bank and pitch angles and maintains attitude. | The aircraft continues a slow roll or pitch maneuver. |
Full Control Input | The aircraft banks or pitches to the predetermined limits while maintaining attitude. | The aircraft continues a rapid roll or pitch maneuver. |
Disabling and Enabling SAFE Select
By default, the model's SAFE Select function is enabled and assigned to the Gear channel switch (Channel 5). If you do not wish to have SAFE Select access during flight, you can disable it. AS3X continues to function even when SAFE Select is disabled.
IMPORTANT: Before disabling or enabling SAFE Select, ensure that the aileron, elevator, rudder, throttle, and gear channels are all set to full throw with 100% throw rate. Disable throttle cut if it is programmed into your transmitter.
CAUTION: Keep clear of the propeller and ensure the aircraft is securely held in case of accidental throttle activation.
- Turn on the transmitter.
- Turn on the model aircraft.
- Hold both transmitter sticks down and inward, and toggle the Gear switch 5 times (1 toggle = one full up and down travel). The aircraft's control surfaces will move, indicating that SAFE Select has been enabled or disabled.
Repeat the procedure again to enable or disable SAFE Select. The aircraft will move both ailerons up and down to indicate that a change has been made.
DXe and DXS Transmitters
On these transmitters, Switch A is the FMODE switch and should be toggled between position 0 and 2 when disabling/enabling SAFE Select.
[Diagram: Shows transmitter stick positions (down and inward) and switch toggling for SAFE Select activation/deactivation.]
Receiver/ESC Activation and Battery Installation
CAUTION: Always keep your hands away from the propeller. When the motor is armed, the propeller could start with any slight movement of the throttle stick.
The receiver/ESC also arms after the binding described previously, but when you subsequently connect the onboard battery, you must follow the steps below.
AS3X
The AS3X system does not activate until the motor stick exceeds 25% for the first time. Once active, the control surfaces on the model may move rapidly and noisily. This is normal. The AS3X technology remains active until the battery is disconnected.
- Open the battery door by lifting it from the front.
- Secure the battery with the hook-and-loop strap so that it is centered in the compartment.
- Lower the throttle and turn on the transmitter. Activate the throttle cut switch.
- Connect the battery to the ESC, observing polarity. Keep the aircraft still and away from wind for 5 seconds to allow the AS3X system to initialize. A series of tones and a solid LED (this LED may be difficult to see as it is inside the aircraft) indicate that the connection was successful. A solid blue LED indicates the model is in SAFE flight mode, and a solid red LED indicates the model is in AS3X flight mode. When the aircraft is in SAFE mode, the servos will move without needing to move the throttle past 25%.
- Replace the battery cover.
CAUTION: When not flying, always disconnect the LiPo battery from the ESC to avoid powering the motor. The ESC does not have an arming switch and therefore responds immediately to any transmitter command.
CAUTION: When the aircraft is not in use, always disconnect the LiPo battery from the receiver system to prevent over-discharge. If these batteries are discharged below their minimum voltage, they can be damaged, losing capacity and potentially causing a fire when attempting to recharge them.
[Diagram: Shows battery installation with a hook-and-loop strap.]
Center of Gravity (CG)
The CG position is at 40 mm +/- 4 mm behind the wing's leading edge. The CG position is determined after installing the recommended battery. Check the CG position with the model inverted and the landing gear installed. Adjust the battery position forward or backward to bring the model into balance at the recommended point.
[Diagram: Shows a measurement of 40 mm +/- 4 mm from the wing's leading edge.]
Control Surface Direction Check
WARNING: Do not perform this or any other check without first activating throttle cut. Accidental motor start-up could otherwise cause serious injury or damage.
If the control surfaces are not responding correctly, DO NOT FLY. Consult the troubleshooting guide for more information. For assistance, contact Horizon Hobby support.
- Turn on the transmitter.
- Activate the throttle cut function.
- Connect the battery.
- Use the transmitter to operate the aileron, elevator, and rudder controls.
NOTICE: Verify control surface movement by looking at the aircraft from the rear.
Elevator
- Pull the elevator stick towards you. The elevator should move upward, a maneuver that induces a nose-up pitch.
- Push the elevator stick forward. The elevator should move downward, a maneuver that induces a nose-down pitch.
Aileron
- Move the aileron stick to the left. The left aileron should move upward, and the right aileron downward, causing the aircraft to bank left.
- Move the aileron stick to the right. The right aileron should move upward, and the left aileron downward, a maneuver that induces the aircraft to bank right.
Rudder
- Move the rudder stick to the left. The rudder should move to the left, a maneuver that induces a left yaw of the aircraft.
- Move the rudder stick to the right. The rudder should move to the right, a maneuver that induces a right yaw of the aircraft.
Flaps
- Move the flap control switch to the mid-flap position.
- Verify that the flaps move downward.
- Move the flap control switch to the "full flaps" position.
- Verify that the flaps move further down than in step two.
NOTE: This aircraft uses offset servos for aileron control. It is normal for control surfaces to move higher than they move down during the control test. (For example, with left control input, the left aileron will move up more than the right aileron moves down.)
[Diagram: Shows control commands (Transmitter Command) and corresponding control surface responses (Control Surface Response - viewed from rear) for Elevator, Aileron, Rudder, and Flaps.]
Control Surface Centering
IMPORTANT: Before checking centering, perform a control direction test. With SAFE mode not active, mechanically center the control surfaces. IMPORTANT: For correct SAFE system operation, trims and sub-trims must be at zero. After binding a transmitter to the airplane's receiver, set the trims and sub-trims to 0, ensure the servo arms are in the correct positions, then adjust the linkages to center the control surfaces.
- Turn the pushrods clockwise or counterclockwise to center the surfaces.
- Afterward, connect the linkages to the servo arms and control horns.
Post-Flight Checklist
- Disconnect the flight battery from the Electronic Speed Controller (ESC). (Mandatory for safety and battery life.)
- Turn on the transmitter.
- Remove the flight battery from the aircraft.
- Store the flight battery separately from the aircraft and monitor the battery charge.
Maintenance and Repairs
Disassembly
CAUTION: DO NOT handle the propeller if the battery is connected to the ESC. Risk of injury.
Propeller
- Carefully remove the 1.6 x 8 mm self-tapping screw (A) with a #0 Phillips screwdriver.
- Carefully remove the spinner (B).
- Carefully remove the propeller (C) from the propeller adapter.
[Diagram: Shows propeller removal steps with parts labeled A, B, C.]

[Diagram: Shows motor removal steps with parts labeled D, E, F, G.]
Assembly
Assemble in reverse order.
- Connect the motor wire connector to the receiver/ESC.
- For correct propeller operation, ensure it is facing forward.
- Ensure the propeller adapter and motor mount are securely connected to the motor.
Factory Pushrod Positions
The figure shows the control positions suitable for more acrobatic response. This position affects the aircraft's response.
CAUTION: If these are not connected/linked in the correct positions for the pilot's skill level, the aircraft's response to commands may be unexpected. This can cause damage to the aircraft and personal injury.
[Diagram: Shows linkage positions for Ailerons, Elevator, Rudder, and Guignols (Control Horns).]

Questions, Support, and Repairs
Your local store and/or place of purchase cannot provide warranty service or repairs without prior consultation with Horizon. This also applies to warranty repairs. Therefore, in such cases, you must consult a dealer, who will contact Horizon immediately to make a decision that can help you as quickly as possible.
Maintenance and Repair
If the product needs to be inspected or repaired, please contact a specialized dealer or Horizon directly. The product must be carefully packaged. Please note that original boxes are usually not suitable for shipping without damage. Shipping must be done via a courier that provides tracking and insurance, as Horizon assumes no responsibility regarding product shipment. Place the product in an envelope along with a detailed description of the errors and a list of all individual components shipped. We also need a complete address, a phone number for further inquiries, and an email address.
Warranty and Repair
Warranty claims will only be processed if there is original proof of purchase from an authorized specialized dealer, showing the purchase date clearly. If the warranty is confirmed, the product will be repaired or replaced. This decision rests solely with Horizon Hobby.
Paid Repairs
If a paid repair is necessary, we will provide an estimate that will be forwarded to your dealer. The repair will be carried out after authorization by your dealer. The repair cost must be paid to your dealer. Paid repairs will have a minimum charge of 30 minutes of labor and will include return shipping costs on the invoice. Any unpaid and unrequested repairs within 90 days will be considered abandoned and will be handled accordingly.
CAUTION: Paid repairs are only available for electronics and motors. Mechanical repairs, especially for RC helicopters and cars, are very expensive and must be carried out by the buyer themselves.
