Taylor 5309295 Waterproof Wireless Meat Thermometer with Charging Case

Instruction Manual

Introduction

Thank you for purchasing a Taylor® thermometer. Your Taylor® thermometer is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. Please read this instruction manual carefully before use. Keep these instructions handy for future reference.

Getting Started

Your thermometer uses wireless technology to transmit temperature from the thermometer to the app on a smart device. Please see the following instructions on how to set up and use your thermometer with wireless pairing app technology.

NOTE: See How to Use for all IMPORTANT set-up information. The SMARTTHERMO app is designed to be used with the following smart devices: iOS devices running version 12.0 or later, Android devices running version 5.0 or later.

Download the App

To use the thermometer's wireless features, first download the free "SMARTTHERMO" application from either the App Store (for iOS devices) or Google Play (for Android devices). Be sure to download the most recent version of the app. Please follow the instructions in the app.

How to Use

  • Charge the probe fully before first use. With the probe in the docking station, plug in the USB cable to the charging dock and into a power source (not provided). The battery icon will blink on the LCD screen and there won't be any bars inside. When fully charged the battery symbol will light up completely, but still remain blinking.
  • Turn on the wireless pairing services on your smartphone. For Android, ensure that Location Services Pairing Scanning is "on".
  • To pair the thermometer with the dock, remove the probe from the dock, then press the POWER button three times. The display will show "CON" and the pair is complete.
  • Open the SMARTTHERMO app, and the probe will connect automatically. Sometimes the user will need to press "PAIR" on their smart device app. The thermometer will immediately pair to the smart device for all additional uses.
  • Choose food type and preference for the food. The app and the device will display its current and target temperature. When the food is ready, the app will alarm. See below for further information for using the app.
  • Preprogrammed temperature settings are based on current USDA standards for food safety. Visit www.foodsafety.gov for additional information on food safety.

Start Temperature Monitoring

Make sure the probe you are using is connected with the app.

Insert the stainless steel metal probe into the thickest part of the food to be cooked. Be sure to insert the probe into the food deep enough to exceed the safety line. Do not come in contact with bone, fat or gristle, as these areas will not provide accurate temperature readings. For thin cuts of meat, such as fish, you may want to insert the probe into the side of the meat so the probe is in greater contact with the meat. When cooking, ensure any part of the probe is not touching flame or any HOT cooking surface.

Setting Up the Cook

  • In the app, select the protein (Beef, Chicken, Turkey, Veal, Lamb, Fish, Pork, Hamburger). Some proteins also have doneness levels. Select this as well.
  • There is also the option to ADD a new custom setting.
  • Once selected, return to the main screen and select "START" to begin the temperature monitoring. Internal temperatures will read immediately. External (ambient air) temperatures will display once the 122°F/50°C threshold is met.
  • Place the food into the preheated oven or grill. The charger dock must be placed within 200 feet from the probe thermometer. Do not place the charger dock on or very close to the oven or grill. Damage may occur to plastic pieces. The range from the dock to the smart device is about 300 feet. The total extended range is up to 500 feet.

Stop Temperature Monitoring

The app will sound an alarm when the internal temperature of the food reaches the target temperature. When finished monitoring temperatures, use caution when removing the thermometer probe from the oven/grill; the probe will be HOT. Use a heat-resistant glove to prevent injury.

⚠️ WARNING: Grill grates can reach temperatures higher than this unit's range (572°F / 300°C). Ensure any part of the probe is not touching flame or any HOT cooking surface.

Care and Precautions

  • Always read instructions thoroughly to ensure that you have the full benefit of all the unit's features.
  • To avoid damage to the thermometer probe, be sure to insert the probe into the food deep enough to exceed the safety line, and ensure the probe is in the food completely.
  • When cooking, be sure that no part of the probe is touching flame or any HOT cooking surface.
  • The internal meat temperature measuring range is 14°F to 212°F / -10°C to 100°C. The ambient range is 122°F to 572°F / 50°C to 300°C. If the temperature is outside the temperature range, the app will sound the alarm. DO NOT use this device outside the temperature range. DO NOT expose the probe directly to flames, as this may cause damage to the thermometer sensor.
  • Use caution while handling the thermometer. Always wear a heat-resistant glove when touching the metal probes or ceramic handle during or just after cooking. DO NOT TOUCH WITH BARE HANDS!
  • Keep the metal probes away from children.
  • Sterilize metal probes each time before use.
  • DO NOT place the charger unit into an oven or grill. DO NOT use the thermometer probe or charger in a microwave oven or pressure cooker.
  • The probe is waterproof and dishwasher safe. Dry thoroughly after washing.
  • The charger dock is not waterproof. Do not immerse it in water or other liquids. If you spill liquid on it, dry it immediately with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not expose probe plug or plug-in hole to any liquid, as this can cause damage to the charging dock.
  • Do not submerge the probe in cold water after cooking. Wait until it has cooled down prior to washing.
  • Inclement weather can damage the product. Keep the unit out of direct sunlight, rain, snow and extreme temperature and humidity conditions. Do not allow the unit to freeze. Bring the unit indoors when not in use.
  • DO NOT clean the thermometer unit with abrasive or corrosive materials. This may scratch the plastic parts and corrode the electronic circuits.
  • DO NOT tamper with the unit's internal components. Doing so will invalidate the warranty on this unit and may cause damage. Other than replacing the batteries, the unit contains no user-serviceable parts.
  • Do not expose the thermometer to: direct heat, a hot surface or direct sunlight. This may cause damage to the electric circuits and components inside.
  • DO NOT subject the unit to excessive force, shock, dust, temperature or humidity. This may result in malfunction, shorter electronic life span, damaged battery and distorted parts.

? NOTE: This product contains Lithium Ion batteries located internally in both the base station and the probe. These batteries are not user accessible and are not replaceable.

Please recycle or dispose of battery containing parts per local regulations.

❗ PRECAUTION: Do not dispose of batteries in fire. Batteries may explode or leak. Do not force discharge, disassemble, heat above (manufacturer's specified temperature rating) or incinerate. Doing so may result in injury due to venting, leakage or explosion resulting in chemical burns.

Examine devices and make sure there are no breaks or cracks that would expose the batteries. Do not use if the compartment is broken. Keep the product away from children and immediately dispose of the product per local regulations.
