Sample Preparation and Volume Required
The ProCyte One Haematology Analyser works with various EDTA collection tube sizes. Adhering to the tube manufacturer's fill volume guidelines is crucial for ensuring:
- Correct EDTA-to-sample ratio.
- Prevention of overfilling, which can cause clotting or clumping.
- Prevention of underfilling, which can lead to morphological changes like red blood cell (RBC) shrinking (crenation).
Running a Sample
- Initiate the sample run on the IDEXX VetLab* Station. Consult the IDEXX VetLab Station Operator's Guide for details.
- On the Select Instruments screen, confirm patient information, select the ProCyte One icon, and tap Run.
- Invert the sample tube 10 times to mix with the anticoagulant. Immediately after inversion, place the tube in the front slot of the sample drawer, close the drawer, and press the Start button on the analyser's front.
IMPORTANT: For microtainer tubes, always remove the cap before placing them in the sample drawer.

The analyser will prompt you to replace packs when they are empty or expired.
- Open the analyser door.
-
To replace the reagent pack: Remove the small gray reagent pack from inside the analyser and insert a new one until it clicks.
OR
To replace the sheath pack: Remove the large grey sheath pack from inside the analyser and insert a new one until it clicks. - Close the analyser door. Note: The door may not close fully if a pack is not seated correctly.
To change the SmartQC:
SmartQC* is a quality control material from IDEXX, housed in the sample drawer, used to monitor ProCyte One analyser performance.
You will be prompted to change the SmartQC vial when it is empty or expired.
- Open the sample drawer.
- Remove the empty/expired SmartQC vial.
- Shake a new SmartQC vial vigorously for 10 seconds to ensure it is well mixed. Load it into the rear slot in the sample drawer.
