Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the ONN Device Universal Remote Control. This remote can control up to 6 Audio Video Devices such as a TV, Set Top Box, Blu-ray Player, or Sound Bar. It features a backlight for easy control in dark rooms. This guide will help you set up the ONN 6 to control your devices and utilize its features.
Getting Started
Installing Batteries
Your remote requires 2 x AA / LR6 batteries. Alkaline batteries are recommended.
Steps:
- Remove the battery cover.
- Insert the batteries as shown (note polarity: + and -).
- Snap the battery cover back into place.

Setup Procedures
ONN Device Setup (for ONN brand devices)
For ONN brand TVs, DVD Players, Blu-ray Players, or Sound Bars:
- Hold down the Device Key (e.g., TV) for the device.
- Hold down the Setup key (⚙️) until the LED blinks twice.
- Enter the first 4-digit code for your device (e.g., 4398 for TV).
- The LED should blink twice. Test keys. If it doesn't work, repeat with the next code.
Example ONN Codes:
- TV: 4398, 1709, 3024, 3078, 5118, 1756, 5438
- AUDIO/Sound Bar: 5042, 5041, 5412, 5414, 5415, 5416, 5043
- BLURAY+DVD: 4016, 4371, 4377
SimpleSet Setup
For common brands and devices not listed under ONN Device Setup. Locate your device brand in the SimpleSet list and note the associated digit key.
Procedure:
- Turn on your device. Point the ONN remote at it.
- Press the desired Device Key (e.g., TV).
- Hold down the Setup key (⚙️) until the LED blinks twice.
- Hold down the digit key corresponding to your brand (e.g., '3' for LG TV).
- The remote sends a Power command every 3 seconds. Release the key when the device reacts (e.g., turns off).
- The LED blinks twice. Test keys. If unsuccessful, repeat with the next code.

Setup by Code
Use this if your brand is not in SimpleSet. Locate your brand in the Code List.
Procedure:
- Turn on your device. Point the ONN remote at it.
- Press the Device Key (e.g., TV).
- Hold down the Setup key (⚙️) until the LED blinks twice.
- Enter the first 4-digit code for your brand.
- The LED blinks twice. Aim the remote at your device and press the Power key (?).
- If the device turns off, it's ready. If not, repeat with the next code.
Setup - Learning
Learn functions from an original remote. Ensure original remote has working batteries and is approximately 2-5 cm from the ONN remote, pointing towards it.
Procedure:
- Press the Device Key for the device you want to learn functions onto (e.g., TV).
- Hold down the Setup key (⚙️) until the LED blinks twice.
- Press 975 (LED blinks twice).
- Press and release the key on the ONN remote to learn onto (e.g., Power ?). The LED flashes rapidly.
- Press and release the corresponding key on the original remote (e.g., Power ?).
- The LED blinks twice to confirm learning.
- Repeat steps 4-5 for each function.
- When done, press and hold the Setup key (⚙️) until the LED blinks twice.
To delete a learned function: Press Device Key, hold Setup (⚙️) until LED blinks twice, press 976 (LED blinks twice), press the key to reset twice (LED blinks twice).
Setup - Volume Lock
To have Volume Up/Down/Mute keys always control a specific device (e.g., Sound Bar):
- Hold down Setup (⚙️) until LED blinks twice.
- Press 993 (LED blinks twice).
- Press the Device Key for the device to control volume (e.g., Audio).
- The LED blinks twice. Volume is now locked to that device.
To unlock volume: Hold Setup (⚙️) until LED blinks twice, press 993, press Volume Down (?⬇️) (LED blinks four times).
Channel Shortcut Macros
Reprogram Red, Green, Yellow, Blue keys (????) to send channel numbers when held for 3 seconds. Useful for grouping channels by genre (e.g., Sports, News).
Programming Procedure:
- Select the device key (e.g., STB).
- Hold down Setup (⚙️) and the colored key (e.g., ?) until LED blinks twice.
- Enter the first channel number (e.g., 200).
- Press and release the colored key (e.g., ?).
- Enter the next channel number (e.g., 201).
- Repeat steps 3-4 for each shortcut.
- After the last channel number, press and hold Setup (⚙️).
The LED blinks twice, confirming programming. Holding the colored key for 3 seconds sends the first programmed channel.
To reset a key: Press Device Key, hold Setup (⚙️) + key to reset until LED blinks twice, press key to reset, hold Setup (⚙️) until LED blinks twice.
App Shortcut Keys
Three keys (?) can be programmed to launch apps on Smart Devices (e.g., Netflix, YouTube). If your original remote had these keys, they will work automatically. Otherwise, program them using a macro.
Programming Procedure:
- Know the sequence of keys to launch the app on your device.
- Sit in front of your device (on, not standby).
- Hold down the App Shortcut key (?) until the LED blinks twice.
- Press the Device Key for the macro (e.g., Stream).
- Perform the key sequence. The remote records in real-time.
- Once the app starts, hold down the App Shortcut key (?) until the LED blinks twice and goes out. The macro is stored.
Tips: Ensure the ONN remote controls the device before programming. If a macro doesn't work, repeat the sequence. Wait for device response during programming. Macros are tied to one device.
Activities
An Activity combines multiple devices for a single purpose (e.g., "Watch TV" can control TV, STB, and Audio simultaneously). The remote has 3 Activity modes: Watch TV, Listen To Music, Watch Movie.
Example Combinations:
- Watch TV: 1-TV+STB+AUDIO (default), 2-TV+STB, 3-TV+AUDIO
- Listen To Music: 1-TV+BLU+AUDIO (default), 3-TV+STREAM+AUDIO, 5-AUDIO only
- Watch Movie: 1-TV+STREAM+AUDIO (default), 2-TV+STREAM, 3-TV+BLU, 4-TV+BLU+AUDIO
Setting up Activities:
- Hold down SETUP (⚙️) until the LED blinks twice.
- Press the Activity key (e.g., Watch TV).
- Press the number of the desired combination (e.g., '3' for TV+AUD).
- The LED blinks twice.
You can also set up Activities using 3-digit codes based on Device Brand Digits (see page 18 for details).
AV Shift
When in an Activity, the AV key allows input selection. The Menu (☰), Up, Down, Left, Right, and OK (✔️) keys temporarily control the TV for input selection. They revert to the Activity's primary device after 10 seconds or when OK is pressed.
Power Macro
Holding the Power key (?) for 2 seconds sends the Power function for all devices within the current Activity (e.g., turns on TV and Set Top Box simultaneously).
FCC Information
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to two conditions: (1) it may not cause harmful interference, and (2) it must accept any interference received. This equipment has been tested and found to comply with Class B digital device limits, designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in residential installations. How to Use Codelists:
- Identify your device type and brand.
- Locate your brand in the relevant codelist section.
- Use the provided codes with the "Setup by Code" or "SimpleSet" procedures.
