Café Range Installation Instructions
This document provides essential installation instructions for Café ranges. Please read all instructions carefully before beginning installation. Proper installation is the responsibility of the installer and is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of your range. Failure to follow these instructions may result in fire, explosion, or serious injury.

Important Safety Information
- WARNING: FIRE OR EXPLOSION HAZARD: If information in this manual is not followed exactly, a fire or explosion may result, causing property damage, personal injury, or death. Installation must be performed by a qualified installer.
- WARNING: TIP-OVER HAZARD: A child or adult can tip the range and be killed. Install the anti-tip bracket to the wall or floor and engage the range to it. Re-engage the bracket if the range is moved. Failure to do so can result in death or serious burns.
- Ensure the range is installed according to local codes or, in their absence, the National Fuel Gas Code (ANSI Z223.1/NFPA.54) in the US, or the Natural Gas Installation Code (CAN/CGA-B149.1) or Propane Installation Code (CAN/CGA-B149.2) in Canada.
- Ensure electrical grounding is in accordance with local codes or the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70) in the US, or CSA C22.1 in Canada.
- Do not install this product with an air curtain hood or other range hood that blows air down onto the cooktop, as this may interfere with burner operation and create a fire or explosion hazard.
- Before beginning installation, switch power off at the service panel and lock it to prevent accidental activation. If locking is not possible, attach a prominent warning device to the service panel.
Tools and Materials Needed

- Phillips screwdriver
- Flat-blade screwdriver
- Pencil and ruler
- Pipe wrenches (2, one for backup)
- Adjustable wrench
- Level
- Awl or nail
- Drill with 1/8" Bit
- Pliers
- Safety glasses
- Tin snips
Materials:
- Gas line shut-off valve
- Pipe joint sealant or UL-approved pipe thread tape with Teflon®
- Flexible metal appliance connector (1/2" I.D., recommended 5-foot length)
- Flare union adapter for connection to gas supply line (3/4" or 1/2" NPT x 1/2" I.D.)
- Flare union adapter for connection to pressure regulator on range (1/2" NPT x 1/2" I.D.)
- Liquid leak detector or soapy water
- (UL Listed 40 AMP) 4-Wire Cord 4' long OR 3-Wire Cord 4' long
Before You Begin
- Save these instructions for the local inspector's use and for future reference by the consumer.
- Observe all governing codes and ordinances.
- Remove all packing material and literature from the oven before connecting gas and electrical supply.
- Check with your builder or cabinet supplier to ensure cabinet materials will not discolor, delaminate, or sustain damage from heat. This oven is designed to comply with maximum allowable wood cabinet temperatures of 194°F (90°C).
- Ensure the floor covering can withstand 180°F without shrinking, warping, or discoloring. If installing over carpeting, place a sheet of 1/4" thick plywood or similar insulator between the range and carpeting.
Mobile Home Installation Requirements
- Installation must conform to the Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standard, Title 24 CFR, Part 3280 (US) or CAN/CSA-A240 (Canada).
- If installed in a mobile home, the range must be secured to the floor during transit according to applicable standards.
Dimensions and Clearances
Provide adequate clearances between the range and adjacent combustible surfaces for safe use. Maintain a minimum of 36" (91.4 cm) clearance between burners and the bottom of an unprotected cabinet. If the cabinet bottom is protected, a 24" (61 cm) clearance is acceptable with appropriate heat-resistant materials.
For island installations, maintain a 2-1/2" minimum from the cutout to the back edge of the countertop and a 3" minimum from the cutout to the side edges.

Install the required rear trim to the back of the range using the provided screws.

CAUTION: To prevent drafts from affecting burner operation, seal all openings in the floor under and behind the appliance.
Converting to Propane Gas (or Back to Natural Gas)
The range is factory set for natural gas. Conversion to propane gas must be performed by a qualified installer. Conversion orifices and instructions are located on the back of the range. Keep all conversion parts and instructions in case you wish to convert back to natural gas.

Installation at High Altitude
For installations over 6000ft., a specific kit is required for natural gas (WB28X29254) or propane gas (WB28X29255). Follow the instructions included with the kit.
Electrical Requirements
- WARNING: SHOCK HAZARD: This appliance must be properly grounded.
- For new constructions, mobile homes, and areas where local codes prohibit grounding through the neutral, a 4-conductor UL-listed range cord is required.
- WARNING: FIRE OR SHOCK: Do not use an extension cord with this appliance.
- WARNING: SHOCK: Remove house fuse or open circuit breaker before beginning installation.
- A qualified electrician should connect the electrical wiring.
- Use a single-phase, 120/208 VAC or 120/240 VAC, 60 hertz electrical system.
- If connecting to aluminum wiring, use properly installed connectors approved for aluminum wiring.
- The National Electrical Code requires a 4-conductor connection for new construction.
- Ensure the appliance is supplied with the proper voltage and frequency, connected to an individual, properly grounded, 30 amp (minimum) branch circuit protected by a circuit breaker or time-delay fuse.
- Use only a 3-conductor or 4-conductor UL-listed range cord with appropriate strain relief.
- The rating plate is located on the oven frame or the side of the drawer frame.
- Automatic or wireless external switches are not recommended for this product.
Power Cord and Conduit Installation
- Remove the wire cover on the back of the range using a 1/4" nut driver. Access the terminal block.
- For power cord and 1" conduit, remove the knockout ring (1 1/8") from the bracket below the terminal block using pliers.
- For power cord installations: Assemble the strain relief in the hole. Insert the power cord through the strain relief and tighten. Ensure enough slack for terminal connection. Tabs on the strain relief can be removed if necessary. The strain relief bracket must be installed before reinstalling the rear wiring cover.
- For 3/4" conduit installations: Purchase and assemble a squeeze connector matching the conduit diameter. Insert the conduit through the connector and tighten. Ensure enough slack for wire connection. The squeeze connector must be installed before reinstalling the terminal block cover.

3-Wire Installation (Ground Through Neutral Wire)
- WARNING: SHOCK HAZARD: The neutral wire and ground strap must be connected as shown to properly ground the range. Do not remove the ground strap.
- WARNING: FIRE HAZARD: Terminal block screws must be securely tightened.
- For Power Cord Installation: Remove the 3 lower screws from the terminal block. Do not cut or remove the ground strap. Insert the 3 screws through each power cord terminal ring and into the terminal block, ensuring the white wire is in the center. Securely tighten each screw (35 to 50 in-lbs).
- For Conduit Installation: Loosen the 3 lower screws on the terminal block. Do not cut or remove the ground strap. Insert the bare wire tips (5/8" stripped insulation) into the bottom terminal block openings, ensuring the white wire is in the center. Securely tighten each screw onto each wire (35 to 50 in-lbs). Reinstall the terminal block cover.
- Aluminum building wire may be used if rated for the correct amperage and voltage.
4-Wire Installation (Separate Ground Wire)
- WARNING: The neutral wire of the supply circuit must connect to the center neutral terminal. Power leads connect to the lower left and right terminals. The grounding lead connects to the range frame with the ground plate and green ground screw.
- For Power Cord Installation: Remove the 3 lower screws from the terminal block. Remove and retain the ground screw and ground plate. Cut the ground strap below the terminal block and discard the lower section. Insert the ground screw through the ground plate and into the range frame; tighten securely (15 to 20 in-lbs). Insert the 3 screws through each power cord terminal ring and into the terminal block, ensuring the white wire is in the center. Securely tighten each screw (35 to 50 in-lbs). Reinstall the terminal block cover.
- For Conduit Installation: Remove the 3 lower screws from the terminal block. Remove and retain the ground screw and ground plate. Cut the ground strap below the terminal block and discard the lower section. Insert the bare ground wire tip (5/8" stripped insulation) between the range frame and ground plate; secure with the ground screw (15 to 20 in-lbs). Insert the wire tips into the bottom terminal block openings, ensuring the white wire is in the center. Securely tighten each screw onto each wire (35 to 50 in-lbs). Reinstall the terminal block cover.
- Aluminum building wire may be used if rated for the correct amperage and voltage.
Gas Supply
- WARNING: FIRE HAZARD: Do not use a flame to check for gas leaks.
- WARNING: EXPLOSION HAZARD: Do not exceed 25 ft-lbs of torque when making gas line connections. Overtightening can crack the pressure regulator.
- Use the supplied gas pressure regulator. Inlet pressure requirements: Natural Gas: 6"-13" Water Column; Propane Gas: 11"-13" Water Column.
- Shut off the main gas supply valve before disconnecting the old range.
- A CSA International-certified flexible metal appliance connector is recommended unless local codes require hard piping.
- Connector Hookup: Apply pipe joint compound or Teflon tape to all male pipe threads. Install a manual shut-off valve in an accessible location. Install flare union adapters to the regulator and shut-off valve. Connect the flexible metal appliance connector to the adapter on the range and position the range to permit connection at the shut-off valve.
- After all connections are made, turn on the main gas supply valve. Use a liquid leak detector at all joints and connections to check for leaks.
- When pressure testing the gas supply system, isolate the range by closing the individual shut-off valve if using pressures of 1/2 psig or less.
- Ensure inlet pressure to the regulator is at least 1" greater than the operating manifold pressure.

Inform the consumer of the gas shut-off valve location.
Surface Burners
- WARNING: FIRE OR EXPLOSION HAZARD: Do not operate the burner without all burner parts in place.
- Place surface burners into corresponding positions on the cooktop.
- Place caps on the correct size burner.
- Place the grates on the cooktop; the left and right grates are interchangeable.

Check Surface Burners
Push and turn a knob to the LITE position. A clicking sound indicates the ignition system is operating. Sparks will appear at all burners, but gas flows only from the selected burner. The burner should light within 4 seconds after the air is purged from the supply line. Rotate the knob out of the LITE position once the burner is lit.
Quality of Flames
Normal burner flames should be soft blue (A) or have slight yellow tips on the outer cones (B), which is normal for propane gas. Long, bright yellow flames are not normal. Orange tint or flickering may occur due to heat or particles in the gas/air.

Install and Check Anti-Tip Device
- WARNING: Never completely remove the leveling leg, as the range will not be secured to the anti-tip device properly.
- Follow the instructions supplied with the ANTI-TIP bracket.
Level the Range
- WARNING: Never completely remove the leveling leg, as the range will not be secured to the anti-tip device properly.
- Plug in the unit.
- Measure the height of your countertop at the rear of the opening (X).
- Adjust the two rear leveling legs so the rear of the cooktop is at the same height or higher than the counter (Y).
- Slide the unit into place.
- Install oven shelves and position the range.
- Check for levelness using a spirit level on an oven shelf, taking readings diagonally in both directions.
- Adjust the front leveling legs until the range is level.
- Verify that the rear leg is fully engaged with the anti-tip device. If not, remove the unit and adjust the rear leg height.

Final Installation Checklist
- Ensure the circuit breaker is closed (RESET) or fuses are replaced.
- Confirm power is supplied to the building.
- Verify all packing materials (tape, wire ties, cardboard, plastic) have been removed from the appliance.
- Check that the door and drawer are parallel and operate smoothly. Refer to the Owner's Manual for adjustments if needed.
- Ensure the rear leveling leg is fully inserted into the Anti-Tip bracket and the bracket is securely installed.
Operation Checklist
- Check that the oven control operates properly. If not, recheck wiring connections.
- Ensure all range controls are in the OFF position before leaving the appliance.
