11. MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
Cleaning:
- The saturation of greasy residue in the blower and filters may cause increased inflammability. Keep the unit clean and free of grease and residue build-up at all times to prevent possible fires.
- For optimal operation, clean the range hood and all baffle/spacer/filter/grease tunnel/oil container regularly. Regular care will help preserve the appearance of the range hood.
- Filters must be cleaned periodically and kept free from cooking residue accumulation. Old and worn filters must be replaced immediately.
- DO NOT operate blowers when filters are removed. Never disassemble parts to clean without proper instructions. Disassembly is recommended to be performed by qualified personnel only. Read and understand all instructions and warnings in this manual before proceeding.
SAFETY WARNING: Never put your hand into the area housing the fan while the fan is operating! ✋
Cleaning Exterior Stainless Steel Surfaces:
- Clean periodically with hot soapy water and a clean cotton cloth. DO NOT use corrosive or abrasive detergents, or steel wool/scoring pads, which will scratch and damage the stainless steel surface. For heavier soil, use a liquid degreaser cleaner.
- If the hood looks splotchy, use a stainless steel cleaner to clean the surface. Avoid getting cleaning solution onto or into the control panel. Follow the directions of the stainless steel cleaner.
- CAUTION: DO NOT leave cleaner on too long as this may cause damage to the hood finish. Use a soft towel to wipe off the cleaning solution, gently rubbing off any stubborn spots. Use a dry soft towel to dry the hood.
- After cleaning, you may use a non-abrasive stainless steel polish to polish and buff out the stainless luster and grain. Always scrub lightly with a clean cotton cloth and with the grain.
- DO NOT allow deposits to accumulate or remain on the hood.
- DO NOT use ordinary steel wool or steel brushes. Small bits of steel may adhere to the surface and cause rusting.
- DO NOT allow salt solutions, disinfectants, bleaches, or cleaning compounds to remain in contact with stainless steel for extended periods. Many of these compounds contain chemicals that may be harmful. Rinse with water after exposure and wipe dry with a clean cloth.
Cleaning Aluminium Filters:
- Remove all baffles, spacers, filters, grease tunnels, and oil containers and discard oil and residue.
- IMPORTANT: Drain oil from baffles, spacers, filters, oil tunnels, and oil containers before oil and residue overflow!
- Wash with warm soapy water. NOTE: Aluminum filters, spacers, and oil tunnels are top-rack dishwasher safe.
- Dry thoroughly before replacing and follow installation directions in reverse.
- Filters should be cleaned after every 30 hours of use.
Replacing Filters:
Should filters wear out due to age and prolonged use, replace the aluminum filters immediately.
Operation Cautions:
- Read and understand all instructions and warnings in this manual before operating the appliance.
- Always leave safety grills and filters in place. Without these components, operating blowers could catch hair, fingers, and loose clothing.
- NEVER dispose of cigarette ashes, ignitable substances, or any foreign objects into the blowers.
- NEVER leave cooking unattended. When frying, oil in the pan can easily overheat and catch fire. The risk of self-combustion is higher when the oil has been used several times.
- NEVER cook on "open" flames under the range hood. Check deep-fryers during use: Superheated oil may be flammable.
10. TROUBLESHOOTING
A diagram illustrates the control panel layout with buttons for lighting, timer, speed, and power, along with gesture control indicators.
- If the range hood or LED light does not operate after installation: Check if the range hood is plugged in, ensure power is turned back ON, the fuse is not blown, and all electrical wiring is properly connected. Swap out light assemblies to working ones to determine if it's caused by defective bulbs (See Replacing the Light Bulbs on Page 14).
- The range hood vibrates when the blower is on: The range hood might not be secured properly to the cabinet or wall.
- The blower or fan seems weak: Check that the duct size used is at least 6" or 3-1/4" x 10". The range hood WILL NOT function efficiently with insufficient duct size (e.g., 7" duct over a 6" top vent and loosely secured). Check if the duct is clogged or if the damper unit (half-circular flapper) is not installed correctly or opening properly. A tight mesh on a side wall cap unit might also restrict airflow.
- The blower or fan is not spinning at all, is stuck, or is rattling: The blower might be jammed or scraping the bottom due to shipping damage. Disconnect the power cord, remove the fan grill and the fan blade. Check if the fan blade and/or motor is not in the proper position (offset from the center). Try to fix/adjust it or contact HisoHu immediately.
- The hood is not venting out properly: Ensure the distance between the stovetop and the bottom of the hood is within the recommended 27" to 30" range. (Note: Due to different ceiling height configurations, the recommended height may not be applicable). Reduce the number of elbows and the length of ductwork. Check if all joints are properly connected, sealed, and taped. Ensure the power is set to high speed for heavy cooking.
4. VENTING HEIGHT REQUIREMENTS
- Vent system must terminate to the outside (roof or side wall).
- DO NOT terminate the vent system in an attic or other enclosed area.
- DO NOT use 4" (10.2 cm) laundry-type wall caps.
- Use metal/aluminum vent only. Rigid or flexible metal/aluminum vent duct is recommended.
- DO NOT use plastic vent.
- Always keep the duct clean to ensure proper airflow.
- Measure and estimate the following figures before installation:
- Distance between the countertop/stove to the bottom of the range hood. Recommend 27" to 30" for ideal performance, minimum 25.5" (inches) for safety concern.
- Height of hood and duct.
For the most efficient & quiet operation:
- A distance of 27" to 30" is recommended between the stovetop and the bottom of the range hood.
- The vent duct is not included. It is recommended that the range hood be vented vertically through the roof using 6" (15.24 cm) or larger round metal/aluminum vent work, such as a 6" x 8 ft. semi-rigid aluminum flexible duct.
- The size of the vent should be uniform.
- Use no more than three 90° elbows.
- Ensure a minimum of 24" (61 cm) of straight vent between elbows if more than one elbow is used.
- DO NOT install two elbows together.
- The length of the vent system and the number of elbows should be kept to a minimum for efficient performance.
- The vent system should have a damper. The damper can be installed in the duct near the roof or wall cap. It is not recommended to use a damper on top of the range hood, as it can cause significant noise.
- Use silver tape or duct tape to seal all joints in the vent system.
- Use caulking silicone to seal the exterior wall or roof opening around the cap.
Diagrams illustrate recommended mounting heights and venting configurations (roof exhaust and wall exhaust).
- IMPORTANT:
- Please use the Duct Run Calculation below to compute the total available duct run when using elbows, transitions, and caps.
- ALWAYS, when possible, reduce the number of transitions and turns. If a long duct run is required, increase the duct size from 6" to 7", 8", or 9". If a reducer is used, install a long reducer instead of a pancake reducer. Reducing duct size will restrict airflow and decrease performance. Reduce duct size as far away from the opening as possible.
- If turns or transitions are required: Install them as far away from the opening and as far apart from each other as possible.
- Minimum mount height between stovetop to hood bottom should be no less than 24 inches.
- Maximum mount height between stovetop to hood bottom should be no higher than 32 inches.
- It is important to install the hood at the proper mounting height. Hoods mounted too low could result in heat damage and fire hazard; while hoods mounted too high will be hard to reach and will reduce performance and efficiency.
- If available, also refer to the stovetop manufacturer's height clearance requirements and recommended hood mounting height above the range.
Minimum Duct Size:
- Round - 6" minimum
- Rectangular - 3-1/4" x 10" minimum (requires a 6" to 3-1/4" x 10" adaptor, not supplied)
Calculating Vent System Length
To calculate the length of the system you need, deduct the equivalent feet for each vent piece used in the system from the recommended maximum duct run.
Duct Run Calculation | |
Recommended maximum straight duct run | |
6" or 3-1/4" x 10" duct | 50 ft |
Vent piece deduction | |
Each 90° elbow used | 9 ft |
Each 45° elbow used | 5 ft |
Each 6" to 3-1/4" x 10" transition used | 7 ft |
Side wall cap with damper | 0 ft |
Roof cap | 0 ft |
Duct Run Calculation example:
One roof cap, two 90° elbows, and one 45° elbow used: 0 ft + 9 ft + 9 ft + 5 ft = 23 ft used. Deduct 23 ft from 50 ft, leaving 27 ft maximum available for the duct run.

- Install aluminum filters and stainless steel spacer if applicable.
- Turn the power ON at the control panel. Check all lights and fan operations.
5. VENTING METHODS
- This range hood is designed for 6" top venting through the roof or wall.
- Vent work can terminate either through the roof or wall as illustrated.
- A minimum of 6" round duct (purchase separately) or a 3-1/4" x 10" rectangular duct (purchase separately) must be used to maintain maximum airflow efficiency.
- Always use rigid or semi-rigid metal/aluminum ducts if available to maximize airflow.
- Decide the location of the venting pipe from the hood to the outside.
- A straight, short vent run will allow the hood to perform more efficiently. Try to avoid as many transitions, elbows, and long runs as possible, as these can reduce the hood's performance.
IMPORTANT:
- NEVER exhaust air or terminate ductwork into spaces between walls, crawl spaces, ceilings, attics, or garages. All exhaust must be ducted to the outside.
- Fasten all connections with sheet metal screws and tape all joints with certified Silver Tape or Duct Tape.
- Use caulking to seal the exterior wall or roof opening around the cap.
Diagrams show top venting to the roof and top venting through the wall.
6. ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS & SPECIFICATIONS
IMPORTANT: Observe all governing codes and ordinances.
- It is the customer's responsibility to contact a qualified electrical installer.
- A 120 Volt, 60 Hz, AC only, fused electrical supply is required on a 15-amp circuit.
- DO NOT have a fuse in the neutral or ground circuit.
- The 3-prong outlet should be grounded. If the power cord plug is not used, the power cord's green wire should be connected to ground. Check with a qualified electrician if you are unsure that the range hood is properly grounded.
- DO NOT ground to a gas pipe.
- The range hood must be connected with copper wire/plug only.
- The range hood should be connected directly to the fused disconnect (or circuit breaker) box through flexible armored or non-metallic sheathed copper cable. ETL listed strain relief must be provided at each end of the power supply cable.
