Important Safety Warnings
These safety warnings cannot cover all possible situations. Always follow basic safety precautions to protect against personal injury and equipment damage.
- Keep staple gun away from children. Do not allow children near the work area when the tool is in use. Do not allow untrained personnel to handle the staple gun.
- Do not operate while under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication that causes drowsiness.
- Never point staple guns at yourself or others. Always assume the staple gun is loaded and proceed with caution.
- Always wear safety glasses with side protection and ear protection while operating. A hard hat is required for overhead work.
- Avoid loose clothing or jewelry that can get caught in moving parts. Secure long hair.
- Keep hands and body parts away from the rear of the staple gun (near air hose) and the firing head during use. Maintain proper balance and footing; do not overreach.
- Never use oxygen, bottled gas, or combustible fuel as a power source.
- Use an air hose rated for at least 150 PSI or 150% of the maximum compressor pressure. Do not connect to compressed air if pressure could exceed 200 PSI. Use only clean, dry, regulated compressed air not exceeding 100 PSI.
- Do not use a non-relieving coupler. The staple gun and air hose must have a coupling that removes all pressure when disconnected.
- Do not depress the trigger or safety mechanism while loading staples. Keep fingers away from the trigger when not firing. Always keep the staple gun pointed downward during loading.
- Ensure air hose is not too long to prevent tripping. Make sure all connections are tight.
- Always disconnect the staple gun from the air supply before loading staples, performing maintenance, clearing jams, when not in use, moving it, or handing it to another person.
- Do not place a finger on the trigger when disconnecting the air hose. Carry the staple gun by the handle only, not by the air hose.
- Do not drive staples near the edge of the workpiece, as it could split and cause ricochet. Do not drive staples at too steep an angle. Hold the staple gun firmly during firing.
- Do not drive staples into very hard materials, thin materials, or on top of existing staples, as the staple could ricochet.
- Never use the staple gun if it is leaking air, the safety mechanism is not working, parts are missing or damaged, or it requires repair. Ensure all screws and caps are securely tightened.
- Inspect the staple gun before each use. Lock the staple gun in a clean, dry storage area between uses.
- Only use parts, staples, and accessories supplied or recommended by FPC Corporation. Only FPC Corporation-trained personnel can repair this staple gun. Do not modify without written approval.
FPC Corporation assumes no responsibility for consequential or indirect damages from the use of this staple gun.
Preparing for Use
- Store the staple gun at room temperature to preserve internal rubber seals. If stored in a cold environment, warm it to room temperature before use.
- If the staple gun is new or has been stored for over 2 months, apply 5-6 drops of pneumatic oil (included) into the air inlet before use.
Loading Staples
- Ensure the staple gun is disconnected from the air supply.
- Use only the proper size and type of staple as specified.
- Depress the track release lever to release the spring-loaded staple magazine. Slide the magazine out as far as it will go.
- Turn the staple gun upside down. Insert a full strip of staples into the staple magazine with the staple points facing up.
- Slide the staple magazine closed until the track release lever clicks into place. Closing the magazine with staples loaded engages the spring-load mechanism.
Fig. 1 - Loading Staples: Turn staple gun upside down, insert a full strip of staples in staple magazine with the staple points facing up.
Using this Staple Gun
- The staple gun has a contact safety mechanism; it will not operate unless the contact mechanism is firmly depressed against the surface to be stapled.
- Grip the body firmly. Ensure the contact mechanism is securely against the work surface and pull the trigger to drive a staple.
- Remove finger from the trigger and allow the recoil to move the staple gun from the surface.
- To drive another staple, move the staple gun to the next area and repeat the steps.
After Stapling
- Always disconnect the air hose from the staple gun.
- Remove all staples from the staple magazine.
- Apply several drops of pneumatic oil into the air inlet.
- Shut off the air compressor and drain moisture from the tank.
- Drain the air line filter, clean the filter element, and blow air in the opposite direction to remove debris.
- Keep the lubricator filled with pneumatic oil.
Clearing Staple Jams
- Disconnect the air hose from the staple gun.
- Unscrew the 4 nosepiece screws to release the nosepiece. (Fig. 2)
- Clean and carefully remove the staple strip from the staple magazine.
- Remove any remaining loose staples from inside the magazine, using pliers if necessary.
- Once jammed staples are removed, reload the staple gun.

Staples
- The Surebonder® 9600C Pneumatic Staple Gun is designed for 20 gauge, narrow crown, heavy-duty wire staples.
- Use staples with leg lengths of: 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 1/2", 17/32", and 9/16".
- For best results, use Surebonder® #4 Heavy Duty Staples (Arrow® T50™ type staples).
Air Supply
- Operates on clean, dry, regulated compressed air between 60 and 100 PSI. Do not exceed 100 PSI.
- Preferably, include an air filter, pressure regulator, and automatic oiler within 15 feet of the staple gun.
- An air filter removes contaminants and moisture from compressed air, prolonging tool life.
- If an automatic oiler is not installed, apply 2-3 drops of pneumatic oil into the air inlet at the start of each workday and another 2-3 drops after using approximately 3 strips of staples.
- If the staple gun has been stored for over 2 months, apply 5-6 drops of pneumatic oil, then 2-3 drops after using 3 strips of staples.
- If the drive pin is sticking, ensure proper oiling and increase PSI to 80 or 85. Never exceed 100 PSI.
- If the drive pin is constantly sticking: remove the air line, unscrew the 4 allen wrench screws at the top, carefully remove the top (ensure seal is intact), pull the drive pin out. Examine the barrel for broken pieces. Ensure no broken rings in the cap and the spring is properly placed. Replace the drive pin, aligning the blade with the bottom opening. Replace the cap and tighten the 4 screws equally, but do not overtighten.
- The staple gun comes with a male quick connector. Always use a coupling that removes all pressure when disconnected.
- All components (air hose, connectors, regulators, filters, etc.) must be rated at 150 PSI or 150% of the maximum compressor potential. Do not connect to a system with maximum potential air pressure greater than 200 PSI.
