Cuff Placement and Body Position
- Place cuff around a bare wrist, 1-2 centimeters above the wrist joint, on the palm side of the wrist.
- The cuff should be snug but comfortable.
- Sit upright and place arm with cuffed wrist in front of your body on a flat surface with palm up. If the cuff is correctly placed, you can read the LCD display.
- Place arm on the monitor's plastic case (as shown) to help maintain a correct and still arm position that is level with the heart.
- Press START to turn on the monitor. Measurement begins automatically after several seconds. To turn off, press START again or wait 1 minute for automatic shutoff.
Helpful Tips:
- Genetics, age, sex, altitude, physical activity, stress, muscular development, certain medications, or time of day can influence blood pressure.
- Home measurements may vary 10-20 points from doctor's office readings.
- Avoid continuous readings; wait 1-15 minutes between readings for blood flow to normalize. 15 minutes is ideal.
- For consistent readings, place cuff on the same wrist.
Tips for Taking Your Blood Pressure
- The cuff should not feel too loose or tight. Place cuff on bare wrist, palm side up, at heart level.
- Secure the cuff snugly with hook & loop closures, allowing room for no more than two fingers.
- Sit quietly for five minutes before testing. Support your back, and let feet rest on the floor, keeping legs uncrossed.
- Keep the arm and body still and avoid talking during the measurement process.
- Keep the wrist being tested elevated at heart level. Let your other arm relax in a comfortable position.
